Pleasantly surprised!
The course doesn’t look like much from the practice area but once you get out there, really nice variety and excellent layout. Greens were recently aerated but still ran quite quick. I would highly recommend this golf course
Triggs
Could be great track. Owned by the city of Providence so not a lot of money invested. Early in the season time should help in overall appearance. Donald Ross would roll over in his grave at what’s happen to this one time masterpiece.
SAVE YOUR MONEY
Let's start with the staff... One word, embarrassing! Until something is done with the staff members in the clubhouse, this course will continue to lose players, as well as their money. Now the course, why not take some of the money paid for rounds, and put it back into the upkeep of the course? The fairways are Baron, the greens are not what they used to be. Seems to me, that upper management has dropped the ball. There are far better values in the area which result in playing on nicer courses. And, I will not even get into the pace of play here at this Marathon. Do yourself a favor, and avoid this location.
Adding to my List to play
This is a course I'll be adding to my 2021 rotation, I plan on bringing a few suckers, oops I mean golf buddies who've never played it and take them for all they have. lol
Meh....
Me and my cousin got a 430pm tee time @$35 per Golfnow, at the window(not allowed in pro shop due to COVID-19 which is understandable) had informed me since it was considered their “twilight” hours he only charged us $25, which was awesome... I golf once a week and I am not good whatsoever and my cousin is slightly worse but we do enjoy it, we keep pace and try to never be the reason for another group to get their play, we were paired up with two older players who definitely knew what they were doing, I felt the pressured us which I didn’t enjoy, we should’ve been able to play with just us 2, playing with 2 strangers out for a leisure round was unnerving to say the least, however the 3-some in front of us, walking mind you would never let us pass(all of us having carts)while they definitely were hitting 10+ times per hole, all in all I had fun, just wish I could’ve golfed with just me and my cousin who are both just getting into the sport which wasn’t a huge issue, the group ahead of us was an issue, not to mention there was a 2-some in front of the 3-some who only had teed off 20mins before my group did, will return for sure it’s nice being from Providence and having this course close by.
I have played this course many times. While it is conveniently located, and was designed by a famous golf course architect, the fact of the matter is that it is crammed into too small a parcel of land and the risk of errant shots coming from adjacent holes is quite high. I'd rather play elsewhere.
Great Course
Wonderful course with great fairways and greens. Specifically placed fairway bunkers and fescues make for a bit of a challenge off the tee with nice rewards for striping it. Elevated and multilevel greens call for precise approach shots with some of those bunkers and fescue surrounding the green with tight pin locations. Would recommend to any golfer looking for a links style course with a challenge. Hit em straight!
Never played
Thunder storms never played, would not give money back .
Not happy
Pro Shop Attendant and Cart Attendant aweful!!
I work and have worked in pro shops for 20 years, these guys are the worst customer service people I have ever met. They are rude, obnoxious, jerks and they treat people in a manner that should cause them to never come back. They should be fired plain and simple. I will not come back to this course until I see reviews saying they have changed their attitudes or have been replaced!!
Worst customer service of the many golf courses I have frequented in my golf life!!
I’m very surprised by this review. I golfed here last week and the cart attendant couldn’t have been friendlier. I even saw him on the course and he asked if we were enjoying ourselves. Something else must have been going on here for this reviewer.
Resorts World Catskills Stay & Play Package
This reviewer clearly does not have an appreciation of the finer points of golf architecture. This is a Ross gem and has been restored using the original blueprints. The course is in amazing shape, especially for a muni course that gets the amount of play it gets. Fairways were green and immaculate. Tee boxes the same. We played recently and the greens were mending nicely, almost completely, from a spring aeration. We finished in 4 hours and 20 minutes, though truth be told we were the first ones off the tee. The woman greeting us was extremely welcoming and helpful, as were the attendants we saw that day. This is a course well worth playing although try to start before 8 AM to increase your chances at a 4.5 hour round or better.
