Good golf in Rhode Island?
We saw for ourselves during a 2024 golf trip to explore some of the state's best public and private courses. It was an eye-opening experience for us.
GolfPass releases a Top 5 Public Golf Courses in Rhode Island every March thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. We played Triggs Memorial, the state's top municipal golf course, during our trip. Newport National, which we also played, didn't make the list with only one GolfPass review in 2024. If you think it should be included in the future, make sure to leave us a review of Newport National in 2025.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

Valley Country Club

What they're saying: "1st time playing Alpine. Will def be back. The greens were outstanding. They were probably aerated 10 days ago. But they were very receptive to approaches. Tee boxes and fairways were good. Not great. But as good as your standard muni. The staff I did encounter was helpful as it was my first time there. I like the layout. The par 3's were all nice. Also had a double green (at hole nos.) 13 and 15. Will definitely go back." - AFink93 -
