Brownsville Golf & Recreation Center

About
The Brownsville Muni is the perfect place to build your confidence and work on your game, especially in this day and age of championship layouts that torture the average hacker. The fairways are wide open and the large greens, although fast, offer a generous target for the wayward approach shot. The only catch is that water comes into play on most holes.
Hole 2 (only 328 yards) is one of those holes, and with an approach needing to carry about 100 yards of water, is considered one of the most challenging. Despite this testy second hole, the front nine is where you have the best opportunity to go low. The front is void of par 5s, and is featured by seven par 4s, most of which are under 330 yards. In fact, No. 8 is only 278 yards. The back can hurt you with longer par 4s and three par 5s, including the monster 18th hole at 626 yards.
Getting there : From Hwy 77 driving south, exit FM 802 and turn left. Travel to Jose Marti and turn left again. When you reach San Marcelo, turn left. The entrance is on the right side of the road.

Horrible golf course for our high school district tourney
Basically driving up there just by looking at it I knew it was gonna be a bad two days. The Brownsville Lopez coach chose the worst course he could’ve for our district tournament. Greens were more mud than grass, don’t even bother trying to read your putts because there’s not even grain. There was more dirt patches in the fairways then grass and don’t even get me started on these concrete greens. My ball bounced like a bouncy ball, not one ball could hold the green. They use basically backyard grass around the greens.
BROWNSVILLE GOLF CENTER TERRIBLE
Brownsville golf center has always had bad greens and playing conditions and still does. The greens are nothing more than dirt with a little grass. You cannot putt them-leave your putter at home. The fairways are over watered and the rough is soggy. Many of the fairways are thin to bare. If you are in Brownsville play either River Bend or VICC. Both are far superior. Brownsville is cheap-that is it. Terrible
