Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club

About
One of the better public access courses in the state, Sky Creek Ranch boasts an immaculate Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design that is kept in immaculate condition by former Barton Creek Resort superintendent Steven Best. The clubhouse is perched atop the highest point in Tarrant County, and from this vantage point you’ll have a great view of the fine 419 Bermuda fairways and the bent-grass greens that are framed by a forest of oak trees and carved by the frustrating Big Bear Creek.
The key to Sky Creek is playing from the correct set of tees. Water comes into play on 16 of 18 holes, and most of the greens are elevated and surrounded by trouble that will make your score skyrocket. From the tips, high handicappers will struggle with their inconsistency, since there is virtually no room for error at any point on this course. Rounds from the more forward tees are amazingly different, with hackers being able to hit 4 irons off the tee and mid-short irons in–a huge advantage on this course.
Jones, Jr.’s design features five par 5s that offer some intriguing risk-reward opportunities. Three of them have water fronting the green, forcing hacks to think about going for home in two. No. 5 might be the best of the bunch: a snaking 534-yard hole that requires a precise fade around the dogleg right, followed by a perfect layup to be in position for the regulation approach. The creek circles around the elevated green, and trees loom left of the fairway for layups that stray too far left. This hole requires some strategy.
Sky Creek also offers five par 3s–some very difficult, and others nice respites from the other challenging holes. No. 14 is probably the scariest hole on the course, a 212-yard par 3 that is lined by trees on the left and a huge lake along the right and beside the green. This hole, which has ruined many a round, does have a small bail-out area left, but otherwise you’ll need a perfect shot to keep the score reasonable.
A bit pricey for some North Texas golfers, Sky Creek is worth it for the die-hards. In addition to the layout and condition, the practice facility is phenomenal–it features a driving range that plays downhill into an open valley with numerous target flags, as well as a large putting green that gives you a great feel for the round ahead. Chipping and pitching areas are available too.
Getting there : From Ft. Worth, take I-35W north to Exit 64. Turn right on Golden Triangle Rd. and drive 7 miles. Turn right on Bear Creek Pkwy. and drive to the Hidden Lakes subdivision (west side of road). Turn right on Promontory Dr. to the course.

Sky Creek Ranch
Wow, what a course! Amazing views and great challenging holes. The staff was friendly and helpful, overall really great. The course was a little wet but played amazing. An amazing place to play for all.
The
Pace of play today would have been almost 6 hours. We quite at #11 as ea hater box was a :15 minute wait.
Pleasant surprise
The course itself was surprisingly good. The conditions were above average but not spectacular.
The layout, especially a front 9, is really good. From the back tees just under 7000 yards and can test most good players.
Not knowing the course can hurt a bit but overall this was a course I would come back to.
As far as the amenities, etc., but you would expect from a public access course. The range is quite nice but the balls may not be included. Not cheap but a good value.
Beautiful and challenging
Best course in my area. The senior rate is great. The course has held up well with all of the rain. Definitely a challenge.
Sky Creek
Excellent course layout, great amenities. Only negatives were the tee boxes were in rough shape and some spots on the greens need some work.
Slow greens!
The course is almost impossible with its steel tabletop greens. Add in that they were very slow today and you have a recipe for high scores. This course is borderline unfair and average golfers will have a tough time with the creek on almost every hole. Challenging to say the least.
Bring extra balls
This course is very punitive with misses just off the green. Conditions were pretty good for early spring on a windy day. I thought the course was potentially fun with a tremendous amount of local knowledge. If you don’t play here regularly prepare for a challenge. Staff and cost were very competitive. Be warned.
GREAT COURSE. BUNKERS ARE IN NEED OF REPAIR
This was my first time playing this course. I play on average three times a week. This course has some very nice par threes, they are challenging more than most. The fairways are in good condition for this time of year. There is lots of water, and plenty of forced carries. They are currently working on all the sand bunkers. All in all. It’s a nice course. But they are VERY proud of the rates. They offer no veterans discounts which is a huge problem for me! There are lots of courses that are as nice, if not nicer than this one. For MUCH less money, especially if you’re a veteran! I find it hard to believe that the great men and women of this country do not get a break on this course. They really really really seem to cater to their members. I would still recommend this course to someone, if they could get a coupon of some sort. To anyone interested, the cowboys golf club. They offer veterans an excellent deal. $100 includes your 18 holes, range balls, breakfast, and an outstanding lunch! I wish more places where this way. This is my honest view an opinion of this course.
Greens and Bunkers
Lots of great work being done out there. Going to be prime in a few weeks.
very hard course
the course was very hard for my skill level. greens very hard and fast. Nice overall facility. A lot of walkers slowing pace down. Staff very friendly and helpful. not sure if i will play there again.

Cart Girls...
This course is ight, but the pace of play is completely blasphemous. On the other hand, the Cart Girls make it worth your while.
Enjoyment and frustration the same day
Pleasantly surprised and disappointed at the same time. From reading other reviews I had an idea of what to expect or what i thought to expect. The day started that way with a delay and a tournament scheduled that we didnt know about when booking. Thinking to myself yep those other reviews were spot on and its going to be a long day. But I have to say the staff handled everything perfectly. They told us how they were going to handle the delay and the tournament and how we shouldnt be effected at all and to their credit we werent. We got started and everything seemed to flow nicely. The course was beautiful! Set up atop a nice scenic overlook the course seemed to be in great shape. The grounds crews were working hard to patch areas and mow and blow leaves away. The beverage carts came around often. The course, although appearing like it was in great shape was where i was somewhat disappointed. The tee boxes were somewhat chunky but soft to get your tee in. The fairways were most disappointing as they had just been fertilized and way overwatered to the point that they were saturated and very muddy. By the second hole we were covered in mud. The greens were in nice shape bit didnt seem to roll true. I will have to say that i wouldnt dock the overall rating because they were doing maintenance and upkeep just wish it would have been on a different day. Overall my score and experience suffered due to the course conditions but with the care they were putting into it I would definitely recommend the course and say i will be back. Hopefully next time i will see the after effect of their hard work and it will be 5 stars all the way around.
