Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Avoid until it bounces back
We played here for the first time since they moved the holes. They grounds are in rough shape especially for the price on a Friday afternoon. It would be nice if every hole had an indicator wha hole it was; 18 was missing one- if you come up the back, instead of going around to 4, you play out of turn and it’s so confusing. The arrow pointing “to 4” is actually pointing you to go up the back to 18. I would have rather played fossil for the price.
Fun course but overpriced
I like Iton Horse but it’s overpriced unless you find a deal in Golf Now. Too many fairways that are perpetually under repair and many nicer courses for a better price nearby It’s a shame because it’s an enjoyable course
Iron Horse new layout
Looks like the front 9 got some swapping and I love it! Made things more interesting
Great condition. Never disappoints
Course is a mess, starter/marshall is rude.
I used to like playing here. But the starter/Marshall was so rude and the course is undergoing a restoration. It’s not worth the money to play right now. $60 for a weekday to play off of dirt on some holes and having a 1/4 of the holes no carts is just not a great combo for the money.
The starter lady was the worst I’ve ever seen at a course. I play courses all over DFW and have never had an issue with a starter. I she was rude from the start. I was playing by myself, so naturally I got paired with another single and double, not a problem. The problem came when she made myself and the other single pair up in the same cart. This is a person I do not know, a complete stranger, she made us ride in the same cart. We both paid for a cart yet we had to ride together. When we pushed back she got an attitude with us and said it’s been a rule for a year. I’ve played this course 5 times this year and not once did anyone mention this. So I had to ride with a random that was a rival of another school I went to. The most awkward round I’ve ever played.
I won’t be going back anytime soon.
Poor showing at Ironhorse
We had heard so many good recommendations to come and play Ironhorse in North Richland Hills. However, upon showing up and playing for the first time, the fairways were in atrocious shape, the ground was under REPAIR most everywhere, but there was no warning and no heads up that the course fairways were mostly dirt not even grass. Very disappointed in my first outing there. I would say avoid it until they find ways to bring real grass back to the fairways..
Great course experience
I enjoyed my round with my 2 junior boys...Great and challenging course, had my boys caddy and give me tips haha!
Poor fairwayy
I love iron horse but this weekend was brutal! Great greens but quite a few fairways were completely barren and covered in dirt patches with no grass.
5.5 hours on a weekend
Sloe play, they should do someting. Beginners olaying from black tees and wandering golfers without clubs in hand. A few active marshals coukd make it a better experience.
Course is so close to fantastic
I’ve played this course twice in the past year and 13/14 of the holes are immaculate, with beautiful greens and well maintained fairways. Unfortunately, there are 4/5 holes on the back nine that are very poor and do challenge whether or not the fee being charged is appropriate. One hole was moved from a par 4 to a 110 yard par 3 while they relay the fairway, which is the start of a series of holes with bare fairways. The other 14 holes are so nice that it almost offsets but the price remains steep for current conditions.
Work in Progress
Be prepared for a course that is in a major renovation mode. The back nine is in especially rough shape specifically in the fairways. Unless you can get it under $50 there are much better values. They are trying and everyone is nice but it's going to take time and $ for it to get in decent shape.
Overall fun course. A couple holes seem like clones, but good scoring course.
Average golfers should play Red or White(there’s 5-6 different tees), while single digit handicappers will have fun on Blue/Green. Scratched golfers go black.
Overall staff is great, drink cart is always on the move, you’ll have 4-5 chances every round.
Green in good shape, a little fast—and although there’s some areas of ground under repair—use that to your advantage.
A few holes with GREAT opportunities for eagles(drivable Par 4, and definitely reachable in 2 Par 5’s.
They rarely have hot deals—but if you can find a TEe Gime for ~$40-$45, consider it a good deal.
Great tourney’s. For a “Muni”—this course plays more like a Semi-Private. Definitely one of my top 3 in Fort Worth area! It’s probably 1 of the 2 courses I play weekly.
Goat track
Course needs lots of maintenance and upkeep. There are bald patches on every fairway and green. The rough is unkept and not maintained. The pace of play is easily a 5 hr round.
Will repeat
Great course for the $ . Bar/ grille has great prices , hot dog station a few holes in…. Only complaint was pace of play but that’s not the courses fault
Good thing it is cheep
at 8pm when it was not even close to dark they pulled all the pins. we had to play the last 5 holes with no pins on the greens. they guy told me to use my gps on the carts to know the placement and distance. Not great. He could have used his time instead to clean the 100 carts that were backed up at the drop off instead of pulling all the pins while plenty of people were still playing. I guess that is was you get for a low budget course.
