Royal American Links Golf Club

About
Royal American Links Golf Club pays homage to the birthplace of golf, the seaside links of Scotland, an inspiration that is also reflected in the architecture of the clubhouse. The 18-hole course was created in the traditional link-style but with added features not typical of the classic design including water coming into play on nearly every hole. There are also large, deep bunkers protect the sloping greens, many of which are double-tiered. Royal American Links Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 12th. Its green is guarded by a not only a large rock wall but also water to the front and left. There is a large bunker to the left of the green that will swallow any errant shots but players with a sharp short game will be able to manage.

A Spectacular Design in Rough Condition
Inconsistencies in the condition of fairways, greens, and bunkers. Some areas are too wet and muddy, other areas are burnt out and dead. Greens are bumpy, fast, and spotty. Bunkers are either dry kitty litter or wet concrete. Staff is friendly but unconcerned with pace on weekdays. Foursomes playing egregiously behind pace. Grass bays on the range are either hardpan or crabgrass. If conditions were improved, this course would be a gem and 100% worth the money.
Worst shape I’ve seen
I’ve played this track several times and have never seen this many fairways and greens absolutely burnt and trashed.
For the price not worth it at all!
need to get a mower
needs mowed loose your ball or hard to find 2 feet off fairway, burnt greens putting on dirt just not what it use to be needs lots of work for the dollar,
Terrible conditions
Other recent reviews are spot on. Course is in terrible shape, appears very little to no maintenance being done right now. It is disappointing as it use to be a fantastic GC. Attached a couple of photos from the fairway. These are some of the worst but speaks to overall lack of upkeep. Only saving grace, they lowered the costs to offset the conditions.
For the money, don't waste your money
Course was in terrible condition, tee boxes are destroyed. Greens have burnt and patchy grass. Bunkers are straight mud, completely unhittable even if you can find a rake to try to rake and place! Save the let down and your money and play a Course that actually looks like it's being taken care of!
Poor conditions
This course is a really nice track, but the conditions were very poor. Lots of burnout on the greens and in the fairways. This has been a tough summer with the lack of rain, but the conditions have fallen behind comparable courses. Hopefully they get it back up to par next year.
Poor condition
The fairways were not the worst all around. Most of the greens have horrible dead areas. Be prepared tk move your ball so you can find a section of green to putt. Clover extremely heavy throughout the course.
Disappointment
Last year, I played the course around this time and noticed a significant amount of ground under repair. It was evident that course design changes were underway, so I didn't mind the disruptions. However, upon returning this year, I was disappointed with the progress. While the redesign work was completed, the course itself was in poor condition. The fairways and greens were burnt out in many areas, and there was an excessive number of geese on the course. These geese were so accustomed to people that they did not move, making it necessary to chase them off the greens in order to putt. This created a less than ideal playing experience.
Additionally, the staff were indifferent, neither particularly friendly nor rude. Having played all the courses in the collective this year, this one is by far in the worst shape. Given the nearly $70 fee to play, there is a need for significant improvement to justify the cost.
Played 7/27
Unfortunate to see this course in the shape it's in now. I really like this course but the conditions are less than ideal.
Many ot the greens are in rough shape (and they were running really slow). The driving range is simply a mixture of dirt and weeds. The chipping green near the range is nearly non-existent.
Worse shape
I have played this course for years. Ever since covid it’s been slowly getting worse and this is the worst I have ever seen the course. The fairways are cracked and brown. Greens are patchy and dead. Lastly the tee boxes are always horrible. This course could have so much potential with its lay outs but they just don’t take care of it at all. I wouldn’t pay more than 30$ to play 18 here.
Good value but the course was beat up.
The area received rain Wednesday night. Multiple bunkers were filled with water. #14 green was in horrible shape. Royal American could really be a great course if it was kept up.
What happend here.
This course has gone way down hill. Kind of embarrassing for those in charge, even if they are plowing down the course to build houses the course should be in better shape.
Currently overpriced
Greens are in horrible condition, green rotting is highly visible on most greens. If you get a hot deal for around 30$ fine but the normal cost currently is $50-$60 to play here and that’s outrageous given the condition of the greens. They need to immediately reduce the price to play here given the conditions.
Super slow
Great layout, need to have foursome going out when it is this busy.
$30 course cosplaying as a $50 course
Played this course very early in April and everything was in solid shape. I enjoy the layout, relatively open with some punishing misses. But the course now is just in rough shape. Fairways were all incredibly muddy from equipment cars. Lots of divots unfixed, but that’s not on the course as much as it is the locals. Every single bunker is completely underwater and unplayable. Rough is unintentionally patchy with tons of weeds where weeds shouldn’t be. The greens all have major dead spots all over the place, which completely kills any decent putting stroke. Ball marks unfixed too, which again speaks more towards the clientele.
The course would be fine if the price was slashed in half, however it’s entirely too pricey to be in as poor of shape as it is during the height of golf season.
