Royal American Links Golf Club

About
Royal American Links Golf Club pays homage to the birthplace of golf, the seaside links of Scotland, an inspiration that is also reflected in the architecture of the clubhouse. The 18-hole course was created in the traditional link-style but with added features not typical of the classic design including water coming into play on nearly every hole. There are also large, deep bunkers protect the sloping greens, many of which are double-tiered. Royal American Links Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 12th. Its green is guarded by a not only a large rock wall but also water to the front and left. There is a large bunker to the left of the green that will swallow any errant shots but players with a sharp short game will be able to manage.

Should close down
I hope they are closing this course. Maybe they sold it. The grass is all gone. They should just close the building, get rid of all staff, and let people go walk and play for free if they want to. Ever since they sold to Kemper sports, four of the six courses look like dead fields. Worse courses I’ve ever seen. I’m a member. Wish I’d known then they would let these courses become cow pastures. I’d like to know what their plans are for the course. Really bad place.
The drought has left its mark
Although it has been a long time since I have played this course, this is still a great course to play. I will say that there are a number of places on the course that will need some major attention, as this drought passes and the Ohio weather changes. I look forward to seeing this after the repairs and before the heat and sun get back to work.
Not what it used to be
Fairways and greens are cracking from how dry they are. Greens were just aerated and it’s like they drove a four wheeler across the greens since they are so torn up. Granted we are in a drought, but you’d think they would at least water. Tee boxes are worse than grass in a random field. Can tell this place gets a lot of play and they are happy to take your money but should better utilize it to better maintain the course. We were first tee time and they were certainly not ready for us. We offered to come back at the turn to pay since their system wasn’t operating. Gentleman in the pro shop had less personality than my golf ball. Girl at the turn was quite nice and accommodating which was probably the only plus of the day.
My advice to anyone looking to play here…go somewhere else with your $65…you’ll be better off!
Aeration on top of drought
Normally a great track, played in early summer and it was great. Understand the drought has been tough and expect the fairway to be dry but the greens were aerated 10 days prior to our round and the holes were still huge, most greens were unplayable some had large cracks in them. I hope they can recover next season. I don't see how they still charge full rates.
The dog track would be better...
What a terrible excuse for a golf course. What was once a beautiful course has been discarded into nothing but dead patches of grass.
Practice putting green is gone.
All tee boxes are barren. The overall ownership of this course as well as Clover Valley should be embarrassed
Drought is No Excuse
I grabbed the Hot Deal for this course that I had heard mixed things about. I will not be back anytime soon. The course was in awful shape, partly a result of the drought, but obviously through neglect as well. Play was backed up from the get go. The course design seems like a good one, challenging with narrow tree-lined fairways and plenty of water. The sand traps were simply unplayable — not maintained. People working here are friendly and helpful nonetheless. Overall, just not a good value.
Letting her go
It's pretty obvious that the current owners are not interested in having decent golf. It's a good layout and it's in the worst shape I've ever seen any course in my life. You have to try to run it down like it is. Almost no grass left, disease heavy greens full of holes. It's pretty insane atm, and they want like 60 bucks lol. Don't pay over 20-25 please! They are getting money before they let it close. And removing and neglecting bunkers
Course should be ashamed
This is the worst condition of a course I have played in my life. The greens had disease run thru them in the spring, areas all over the course dug up, fringes full of crab grass, sand traps unplayable. They should post at the pro shop and online that they had major issues and how bad of shape the greens are in and course in general and people may be more forgiving and understanding. I will never donate my money here again. For $55 a round this is embarrassing the course is even still trying to charge this much. Such a shame as it could be a fun course.
I would be embarrassed had I brought clients here.
Royal American
Very nice course. Loved the layout. Course was in
very poor condition, I’m sure due to the drought and the fact that their sprinkler system was down. Hopefully next year the course will be in better condition
Bad conditions
Very poor course conditions. They said their sprinkler system has been broke for several weeks, but there has been reviews dating back several months saying the course is in bad condition. I don’t know what’s going on but lying about it doesn’t help. The greens were almost unplayable.
Disappointed
I’ve played this course before so I knew it’s usually in good shape, taken care of. But man this was embarrassing to see. Extremely let go, some of the worst greens I’ve seen in Columbus. As bad as these greens are, is even worse considering it’s a New Era Course and all 6 are supposed to be super nice but all over priced. Price was fair for round we played but my god is that course thirsty. Gigantic dead spots around the greens, they’re just rock hard as well. Tee boxes seem neglected. Overall, very disappointed from what I know the course used to be.
Disappointed
Extremely sad to see the shape of this course. I used to play here quite frequently, but this is by far its worst state. Management has done a horrendous job at maintaining this course. Much better options in the Columbus area.
Don't Bother
Range and range balls are destroyed. Tee boxes are almost untouched. The fairways and dried and cracked in most places. The bunkers are closer to gravel than sand. The greens are completely spotty and in awful shape. Save your money or spend 10-20 more and play somewhere nicer. Not worth whatever they charge.
Many fairways in bad shape and over 6 greens have dry dirt spots. This course has gone down hill but they still charge like it's in good condition
