Lakeside/Meadows at Shaker Run Golf Club
About
Conveniently located less that 30 minutes from Cincinnati in the city of Lebanon, Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. Arthur Hills designed the original 18-hole course in 1979 and the design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry added the Meadows nine 20 years later. Each nine has unique characteristics, providing three diverse 18-hole combinations when played together. The Lakeside/Meadows Course combines the nine with the most water, Lakeside naturally, and the longest nine. While it may be the lengthiest, Meadows is also the gentlest since it was added as a player-friendly complement to the other golf courses to make Shaker Run more approachable for a range of skill levels. The layout has a rolling landscape that is unique for an Ohio course, and in addition to the water there are also several strategically placed sand traps.

#9 Lakeside Photo submitted by stover3928 on 10/18/2012
good value all things considered
excellent fairways ,good greens 5 tee locations, make it good for all tupe golfers
You can see new ownership is making improvements but the course is far from being back!
I love this layout but the greens are absolutely horrible, I know the new ownership is making improvements but they are charging $65 per round at peak times and IMO its a ripoff.
Great Layout and challenging.
Great layout, at least Lakeside and Woodlands. Played there back in middle of May, the greens was in bad shape. If they improve on the greens this would have been my favorite course in the area.
Maybe I expect too much, but nowhere close to what course was in the past.
Tees and greens were awful. Fairways were decent. spend some mone $$$$ especially on the greens. Major poa annua grass on tee box and greens.
Little wet
Cart path only was a bummer but it was a little soggy. Overall, we had a great time.
Very pretty course
Great use of lakes without being the type of course that you are putting balls into the drink all day. The greens were a little rough but I will give them a pass and assume it is still early in the season. I would say give it a play if you get the chance.
Great layout but greens have been sadly neglected.
I've always loved the layout of the original 18 at Shaker Run but the condition of the greens is just pitiful. They are a bumpy poa annua mix and I'm sure will worsten as temperatures increase this summer. Several of the bunkers were also washed out. I understand the course is under new ownership as of a few weeks ago so I'm hopeful that corrections will be made. The staff was highly attentive and friendly but I choose where to play mostly because of the course so I will not be returning to Shaker Run anytime soon.
Nice course
Due to all the rain, the rough was very tall. It was a nice course, with good practice facilities, good club house, and friendly staff. No water on the course so pack some drinks.
Once the weather warms up and they can mow, it will be very nice.
I play The Golf Club at Stonelick Hills and think it is the nicest course right now.
The greens need work.
First the caveat, we played Shaker Run during the afternoon after morning rain showers. That being said, the fairways and rough were soggy. The greens however, were as firm as if it was August in a drought. There were numerous unrepaired ball marks on nearly every green and they appeared to have two separate types of grass growing on the greens, leading to difficulties putting in relation to the grain. Even as a hot deal, we paid $30. I couldn't imagine paying full price to play this course.
Greens in very poor shape
Value versus other courses in the area isn't good.
Greens were horrible to putt on!
I played Shaker Run for the first time in several years on 4/21. Although it still has it's scenic value, I was terribly disappointed in the condition of the greens, tee boxes and especially the sand traps. This is not the Shaker Run I used to enjoy so much and certanly nothing like the condition it was in when it hosted tthe U. S. Publinks a few years back.
Great layout
The course came through the winter well, greens were a little rough but should be great in a couple weeks. W played the old back nine and the new nine. It is a course I could play everyday and never get board. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
In highly recommend playing here.
Greens need help
This used to be one of the best courses in Ohio. But for 3 years now many of the greens have been a big problem. The course has tried to fix things but still lots of bare sandy spots on greens.
very challenging course
greens had some bad spots on them, but in general they were in good shape. very fast! tee boxes could use some work and the rough was very rough, needed mowed. overall a very good course in a great setting.
It was a beautiful day!
It was a beatiful October morning. 60 degrees with a warm sun shining when we teed off. The sky was blue, the trees were stunning in their fall colors, and I actually played pretty good golf. What more needs to be said!
see below
playing conditions vastly improved vis a vis last year; interesting holes, varying elevations changes and watery challenges.
Interesting, fun, challenging at a great GolfNow price
I played Woodlands to Meadows with a time booked at a great rate. This included the cart and range balls. We played as a twosome because there was an outing later, so we went around in three hours.
The layout of the course is fantastic in it's use of the rolling terrain. The greens on the Woodlands 9 were not great but I hear they were much worse recently, so that is encouraging.
The Meadows nine was not as interesting as the Woodlands, but was in somewhat better shape.
I avoid taking a riding cart if at all possible. The staff recommended I take a cart and I can see why. Next time, I will use my push cart as they allow it. It will be more tiring and a bit slower, but there is no comparison in enjoyment and exercise.
Overall, great course, so-so condition, fantastic price, walking with push carts allowed. Awesome!
A one-of-a-kind gem. A must play for any serious golfer in the area.
I was very pleased to find the course in excellent shape, despite some posts to the contrary over the past few years. Yes, a few greens seem to be having some spotty growth issues (and maybe some insect and even mole trouble, particularly on the newer Meadows course...?) but this does not impede play significantly at all. Indications are that Shaker is "back" and I would look for improving conditions from here on. Great place to play!
Very good condition
With the exception of the edges of some greens, the course was in great shape. Fairways were soft and greens were what you would want. Average speed of the greens.
