Lakeside/Meadows at Shaker Run Golf Club

About
Conveniently located less that 30 minutes from Cincinnati in the city of Lebanon, Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. Arthur Hills designed the original 18-hole course in 1979 and the design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry added the Meadows nine 20 years later. Each nine has unique characteristics, providing three diverse 18-hole combinations when played together. The Lakeside/Meadows Course combines the nine with the most water, Lakeside naturally, and the longest nine. While it may be the lengthiest, Meadows is also the gentlest since it was added as a player-friendly complement to the other golf courses to make Shaker Run more approachable for a range of skill levels. The layout has a rolling landscape that is unique for an Ohio course, and in addition to the water there are also several strategically placed sand traps.

Unpleasant experience, a common occurrence
So we arrive for our tee time to find the course backed up because the mowers are just starting to cut the greens, really? T times start at 6:30 and the mowers start at 6:40, so we are delayed at the start and every hole as we wait for mowers. We make the turn and have nowhere to go as we find they start golfers on every side, turn too soon, too bad you have to wait. Pack the course, expect players to wait at the turn, but hurry up we have an outing and need the cart. Sand traps are in terrible condition, not enough rakes, and broken rakes laying in the sand? Tee boxes are a mess, they could move them occasionally. Not a good experience, to many good courses in this area to put up with substandard conditions and poor management.
not the course it use to be.
I grew up playing this course. Oh how it has fallin from grace. Greens are great but everything thing else needs work. The bunkers are unplayable. The tee boxes are a mess. The rough is real thin and patchy. If you like to play the ball down , well good luck with that.
Back In Form
Shaker Run is finally coming back to where it used to be back in the early 2000's before the conditions were bad. We played on a Wednesday in the mid-morning. The tee boxes were ok, but the Fairways and Greens were finally in AWESOME shape. The pace of play was good (probably due to it being a weekday) but we were glad to get around in 4 1/2 hours. The greens are looking good, and rolling true. Still need a little bunker work; but the heavy rains probably caused most of that. All in all we were glad that we played.
Hello and thanks! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your round at Shaker Run Golf Club. Happy to hear that the conditions at the golf course are back up to excellent shape. We are glad you came out to play too, and we look forward to your return visit!
This course has great features
It was cart path only due to heavy rain. I would not recommend playing it when you cannot take carts 90 degrees. It was an exhausting round. Would love to play it again when carts are allowed out.
Hi there! Thanks for your feedback, it is important to us at Shaker Run Golf Club. The weather is a little iffy this time of year, hoping for cooler playable weather soon! We are so glad you had a good experience. See you again soon!
Family Golf
I haven't played Shaker for years because about 5 years ago I played it when it was at it's worst. They've brought the course back and it has always been one of the most challenging layouts that I've ever played. I took my younger brother with me to show him this track and he was not disappointed with the course at all. I'm sure we'll be back.
Hi! Thank you for playing at Shaker Run Golf Club and we are happy to hear you had a great time out on the course with the family. We are excited to hear you found the course challenging and fun. See you soon!
My Day at Shaker
This was my first time in the Cincinnati area, and I was somewhat torn on whether to play here or not. It appears on many publication list as a top course in the state, but many past reviews on here say the conditions were not what they used to be and the course has deteriorated. The course has suffered from all the rain the area has received the last month or so, and fairways were mushy and wet in a lot of places, but from a conditions standpoint, found the course was in much better condition than previous reviews reported. The greens were in good shape and fairways green. The only real criticism would be the condition of some of the tee boxes. Otherwise I found this to be a fun and challenging track with great scenery and a good mixture of grip it and rip it holes and holes where club selection is at a premium. I got a Hot Deal which made it a real good value. I'd play here again, especially when things dry out.
Awesome! Hey thanks so much for the review on Shaker Run Golf Club! We are happy to hear you had a good experience at the course and the scenery and conditions were pleasant. Come back and see us soon!
Extemely slow play / no ranger or starter
1st - there was no starter - so tee times were pointless as groups were just teeing off whenever and wherever.
2nd - there was no ranger - 3.5 hours for 9 holes. Let me repeat....3.5 hours for 9 holes
I quit after the 10th & 11th holes as 2 holes played took 50 minutes. Let me repeat....2 holes = 50 minutes.
Bottom line - 11 holes - 4.5 hours.

Aight
This place is usually in super condition. Today the rough had a lot of clover and the greens were very bumpy and sandy.
Hi Douglas, sorry to hear the course conditions were not up to usual perfect conditions. We are always making improvements at Shaker Run, do come out and give us another run. We can't wait to see you!
Amazing public course
Easily the nicest public course in the greater Cincinnati area!!
Thanks so much for playing at Shaker Run Golf Club! See you again soon and keep on swinging!
One of my favorite courses
The course played great considering all of the rain over the last 3 weeks. The greens were perfect. Good job Shaker Run.

First time ever
I had a tee time at 6:48 so I show up at 6:30. I could tell something was wrong upon arrival. There were 15 golfers mulling around and no golf carts out yet. I have almost 20 min. Until my tee time hope they get it figured out by then but no luck. Turns out the guy who was supposed to open did not show up until 7. It was a mad rush to pay and get a cart and tee off. At the turn we were 4 groups deep because of the delay at the outset. There was no help offered so we played Lakeside instead. There was no breakfast or even coffee ready at 7. At the turn the bar help did nothing to help us keep up with expected pace because she was envolved with group of guys drinking before they went out. Sum it up this was the most unprofessional operation I have felt with regardless of price point.
Thank for taking the time to review our course and leave us your feedback. We apologize and regret to hear that your round was not up to par due to the late start at the course that morning. This is not typical and we do hope you come back to see us again as we will do everything we can to make sure it is an enjoyable round and the course is ready for you. Please feel free to message us so we can set you up for your next visit:

Need a ranger
This course has a great layout. They need a ranger urgently... no organization in tee times a really slow golf.... I course with a lot of potential..
Hi Jonathan, thank you for your feedback. Your opinion matters to us. We have informed our staff and team about the concern regarding the ranger, we will audit the situation and ensure we have things in order for your next round at Shaker Run Golf Club. Glad you enjoyed the layout!
Hot Day at ShakerRun
Shaker has always been a good course, the maintenance has inproved. Fairway lies were great and the greens putted well. 18 Green was not so great.
Water comes into play. It was terribly hot. Shaker is just a tough course. I would certainly play again.
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to review Shaker Run Golf Club. Thanks for noticing our improvements at the course and we understand it's hot out there this time of year! We hope to see you again real soon. Glad it was a challenge!
Fun Day
Had not played there is several years due to the trouble with the greens. Course was in much better shape then a few years ago. Greens for the most part putted true. The Woodside 9 still struggles with water drainage. Plan to go back.

Big Improvement
I didn't care for the conditions over the last couple of years; but i was pleasantly surprised when we pulled in yesterday. They are doing some landscaping improvement which was much needed, and it's definitely gained points on curb appeal.
The golf shop attendant was friendly, and we were teed off right on time. Everyone knows that Shakers layout is one of the best in the state, and only the conditions have held it back over the last few years. We were thrilled to see that the tees and fairways were in good condition, and the greens were better than I remembered for several years... - Better late than never!!!
All in all you can see that they are making improvements and I hear that they are looking to get it back into a Top course again. Anyone who loves golf will be rooting for Shaker Run to do well, keep making gains, and return high atop the list of Ohio Golf Courses!!!
Hi there thanks you so much for taking the time to review Shaker Run! We are absolutely excited for all the improvements to come and look forward to hosting your next golfing day soon. Come back and see us!
Challenging golf for true golfers.
This is a challenging course, not for beginners. Layout is very beautiful and scenic. If you truly love golf this is a must play. I played the first weekend of June and a few of the greens hadn't healed from punching around Memorial Day. Fairways and tee boxes are well manicured. Rough is thick and jail if you hit it there.
I highly recommend playing Shaker Run.
