The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course

About
The Grizzly Course is a collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead. Since opening in 1972, this challenging layout has been host to numerous PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA events. The golf course features long, curvy fairways lined with towering trees and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. The three final holes feature water hazards, which are also accompanied by a difficult array of bunkers. It offers a fair amount of difficult holes but overall the course is playable for a range of skill levels, which is why it is an appealing layout for tournaments. In addition to the two courses, the Golf Center also boasts an 11,000-square foot putting green and an Academy Course with four championship holes.
Also known as The City of Mason Golf Center - Grizzly Course.

stacked up on fairway! #Grizzly Photo submitted by todski26 on 11/12/2012
Played this course passing through ohio. Course was in beautiful condition. Greens were quick and challenging. 10/10 would play again.
Short course, unfriendly staff
The course layout is very short. Staff books tee times too close together which results in slow pace of play, waiting for groups ahead to finish. Course was in okay condition with bunkers needing major work. Starting staff was very unfriendly and rushed us out only to have us waiting for the group ahead of us while on the 1st tee.
Fun Course - Mean Staff
The course was fun and we had a good time. Not a ton of trees or water, so it is easy to stay out of trouble if you miss the fairway. The starter came out halfway through the round and told us we were very far behind. This was not accurate as our cart said we were ahead of pace. He was threatening to have us skip a hole if we kept being slow. We ignored him and finished our round. We paid $65 to play a course and did not expect that treatment from the course staff.
On the other hand, the lounge had great food and the staff was freindly there. Happy we stopped there for a beer and food after the round.
Subpar course that used to be a top course
This course used to be fantastic and kept in championship condition. At the moment, bunkers are terrible and inconsistent (some are rock hard others have some ok sand), none are in great condition though. Greens are clean but on slower side, this could be due to letting the grow out a bit due to warm weather. The course is trying but it may be too little too late.
Horrible pace of play
Had to quit after a 3 hour nine holes, due to slow play in front of us. Of course I didn’t get a raincheck due to booking through Golf Now.
Nice course - always SLOW play
The GPS system on the carts was constantly telling us that we were way behind (30 min) but the rangers are not empowered to speed up play or enforce the rules. We waited on every hole about a 1/3 through the round. It got increasingly worse. The two groups in front of us were together and there were 2-3 holes open in front of them. They were partying and not paying attention to proper golf play or speed. Average to below average golfers..
Grizzly
After they repair and added irrigate ,the fairways were pretty dry..
Good condition
Nice that course has tee times 10 min apart to provide good spacing for pace of play. Fairways and greens in very good condition.

We're delighted to hear you appreciated the tee time spacing and the condition of our fairways and greens. Thanking you for this positive feedback!
Great as Always, Some Staff Abrasive
Always love playing here. Nice carts, friendly golfers, but some of the staff (usually the starter/rangers) can be abrasive. My wife, me, and my friend took his new girlfriend golfing for her first time. She wasn’t the greatest as expected, but we booked late in the day to not throw off any pacing just in case.
The whole time we played our carts were saying we were 5+ minutes ahead of pace, and 9 times out 10 the group behind us was just getting to the tee box as we were approaching the green, on hole 9 the starter told us we were taking too long and to hurry up. Not sure what he was on about, especially since we were literally on our way to our shots that we just hit off the tee, the group behind us hadn’t even shown up yet, but whatever. My guess is he saw my friends girlfriend miss 5 swings and wanted to say something unnecessary.
Despite this really odd interaction, we still had a blast.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We apologize for the unpleasant interaction with the starter and will address this with our staff to ensure better communication in the future. We're glad you still had a great time and hope to see you again soon!
My home course
Fair pricing. I like the back 9 significantly more than the front. But very solid course. Well maintained. Pace of play is fantastic, especially during the week. Staff is great. Love this course and play it weekly.

Thank you for your kind words and for recognizing our efforts in maintaining the course and ensuring a good pace of play. We're glad you enjoy the back 9 and appreciate your weekly visits!
Slow pace of play, otherwise good given the tennis makeover in progress
5+ hour round mid-day Sunday is just too slow, especially in near 90* temps. Marshals could do little to nothing to keep groups moving as it appeared the course was just oversold or tee times were stacked too close. No one group held anyone up, just 3 groups to par 4/5 holes and nothing could be done. No range due to construction, otherwise in great shape.

We apologize for the slow play and the inconvenience with the range due to construction. We appreciate your feedback and are working on improving tee time management and course flow. Thank you for recognizing the course condition and we look forward to having you back soon!
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the frustration caused by the GPS system and slow play. We're working to enhance our pace-of-play management to provide a better experience. We appreciate your patience and hope to improve your next visit.
