Very Good Muni
Brambleton was in very good condition as always. Weather was near-perfect. Lots of deer roaming the course. The rough was pretty thick. I lost some balls in the rough barely off the fairway. Mid-October so leaves had begun to fall making it more difficult to locate your ball, even in the fairway.
Good for the money
This course was in excellent shape for a municipal. I paid $32, before fees, and was a good course for the money. You won't find any difficult holes, except the 589 yard par 5, so is good for beginners and avid golfers looking to shape their game
Well maintained course
First time and very much enjoyed playing at Brambleton. Course maintenance and greens were the best I have seen in northern Virginia. Would definitely recommend and plan to return.
Decent Course, Will Play Again
This is an all around decent course and I'll be happy to play it a few more times. Nothing exceptional. Some greens had a lot of geese loitering around.
Good course Marshall was on power trip
So our 4some played the course in 4 hours 5 minutes. Not bad right? Beieve it or not the marshall said hurry up because the group in font of us was 2 shots ahead. Other then that good course a few bugs but overall decent for price.
Good course, tough rough.
This course was in very vice condition for a course that is part of a county park system. The fairways and greens were in great shape. The rough is brutal, stay out of it.
Great course
Loved this course. In great shape and the layout was fantastic. Nice and flat with some challenging doglegs.
Well worth playing
Very nice course, fairways are like carpet. Rough was just that! With the rain they had not been cut and could lose a ball in them. Nice layout, keep it in the fairways and scores should be good
Very good course for a great deal from Golfnow!
I booked the tee time through Golfnow, and paid $20/person. The course rates normally run twice that amount, if not more. The weather was extremely warm (mid 90s), but for a 12:30 tee time, that was expected. My brother and I were going to play together, but were paired up with a nice gentleman, Roger, at the first tee. The rough was very tough to play out of, and the trees were pretty intimidating as well. If you were lucky enough to find your ball in the trees, it was just a punch out back into the fairway. There were rangers/marshalls on the course helping out with looking for balls, and helping out in any way they could...a pleasant sight to see. The pace wasn't overly slow, as there was a foursome in front of us, and so were in no particular rush. The greens were receptive to well placed iron shots, but leaving putts above the hole left very tricky downhill putts. Driver wasn't always necessary on the longer holes, and so choose wisely! The 5th hole was a short/downhill par 4 where only a mid iron is necessary off the tee. That was my favorite hole of the course. Overall, a very enjoyable experience, and I will definitely return to the course when they have more deals like this! Too expensive for me when they charge regular rates! However, it is certainly a course I would recommend. Not too challenging for a hacker like me, but provides a good challenge even for more experienced golfers.
like go-kart racing
I can't seriously recommend this course because it is just too basic and it has too-many issues. It is "a golf course". It is also quite expensive. The overall quality of the golf does not match the price. I think this course fills a need for decent golf in its area and that sustains the high price. It does have some attractive features, the driving range is well away from the teeboxes on the other side of the clubhouse which is a perk that you may not notice until you've played at a lot of different courses. The clubhouse is nice and they have a decent menu with friendly and helpful staff, but it is not some place that you'd want to hang-out in after your round. The patio is much more suitable. Far and away the best clubhouse that I've ever seen for after-golf is at Ft. Belvoir, this is nowhere in that league, as nice as it is. I think probably the one thing that I don't like about this course other than the price is the course itself. It's just too mundane. It's largely wide-open though when it is tight there are a lot of swales with long grass that are great at hiding balls. If you must hit out of your fairway, be sure to hit it over one of the swales into the adjacent fairway. There are a few holes which are truly interesting and challenging like #5 the dogleg left and I think #11 the down and up par4 . Maybe about half the course is passably interesting and challenging. The rest is just beginner-level. If I had to play a course like this every weekend I probably would have given-up golf years ago. But if I played once or twice a year, maybe every month...it might be ok. The problem with that even is that there are a LOT of much-better public courses in even the Leesburg area not to mention "Northern VA" that are no more than this expensive, even less. Plus it's always busy. Plus there is a literal commotion on the first tee (you can't even really play the back tees on #1 as they are part of the practice green!). You go out to the practice green right behind the clubhouse and on an average day there will be 25-50 people there. The first tee is maybe 50 yards from the clubhouse. It's like playing in front of a gallery...to...the first of many dead straight-away par4s. Mama, mia.
It is like a franchise grocery-store that serves "golf". Standard, bland fare. Lots of customers running-about. Souless, silently swinging clubs and pulling bags. A few conversations here and there, but basically "4 people every 10 minutes off you go, see you in 5 hours". In the middle there, every now and then, you will actually play a decent hole. Just as often a terribly-bland one that fulfills the qualifications for a golf hole. Meeting the legal requirements. I mean, take #4, the 120-yard par3 running away from the clubhouse. It's almost as if they should put a giant lake on it somewhere to make it semi-respectable. As it is that is something that I'd find in my neighborhood 9-hole course for $10 (which they now want to charge $25 to play before 5pm). It is just an embarrassing hole to play. There are *many* holes like that here. If they took-out the bogus holes they would have a decent 9. But you're paying for 36! Partially because of where the course is, but still. Drive past this course and go play Goose Creek or Bull Run at least, Westpark if you're watching your golf budget.
Great course for the money but still pricy
Shot my best round ever on the front nine but let's not talk about the 2nd 9 holes. I loved playing a course for a change of this quality and caliber. I just wish that I could afford the normal green fees and play this course more often as it is a pure joy for a day out. Next best thing is wait for specials to play when they appear or bit the bullet and skip diner out. Loved it!
Great
Played this course the day after there was some serious rainfall so it was cart path only. However, the course was in amazing condition. One of the best courses conditions in the area at the time. Played as a single the entire round. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Worth it
Course was in great shape. Greens are true, if a bit slow. Rough was punishing, though. It was more than twice as thick as a golf ball diameter making it hard to find your ball and hard to get out. Lesson learned - stay in the fairway! Course layout is good with some challenging but fair holes.
Fairways and Greens in great shape
Course is well cared for. Rewards you for staying in fairway, punishes you with deep rough if you don't. Had a great time.
Beautiful day for golf
Played on my birthday. Course in great shape. Paired up with easy going other players. Pace of play was a bit longer than wanted at 4:45 but still reasonable. Cart girl was timely and friendly. Overall a good day. Will be back.
solid test; good walk
Very nice course; surprised at how nice the greens were for a muni. Good variety of holes. Some local knowledge is helpful but not mandatory. Easily walkable as not a lot of hills.
Great Day at Brambleton
Even with high humidity and intermittent rain, the experience as Brambleton was great. The course was a great value at around $50, which is unheard of for a weekend round in Northern Virginia. Much of the renovations made to the course are really paying off. The rough is challenging, but fair. There are many risk/reward holes, but the course is straightforward enough for a beginner. The only thing lacking were some of the bunkers which needed some TLC. It's hard to beat playing in four hours on a Sunday in prime time. I'll definitely play Brambleton again and soon!
Slow greens.
Course generally in good condition. The greens were in good shape, with the exception that they were slow: in need of a cut and roll.
Excellent Condition
new irrigation has been added to a few problem fairways causing course to be in excellent shape.
