The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Good for the price
First time playing here. Not bad. The course was in good condition; it's not a PGA course so it wasn't pristine but it did have some rough spots. Some of the bunkers were either partially filled with water or had dried up sand/dirt in them. Hole placement was good. Some holes shared a tee box which I thought was weird but the layout wasn't bad. The course is a little shorter than expected but a good value for a deal on the tee time. I'd play again if I found another deal.
Good times, great shape
What more can I say, good time, course was in great shape
Shannondell
The course is in phenomenal condition and the price is very affordable. My only gripe with this course is that the bunkers are more dirt than they are pure sand.
Great Course Condition
The Course was in awesome condition except for the bunkers, but it had rained a lot during the week so I do not blame the golf course. I was able to find a Hot Deal that was extremely well priced, and completely made the course worth the money. If you can find a price under $30, I would definitely say it is worth it.
Each hole had differences and it made for an interesting and fun round of golf.
Could & Should be So Much Better
The course condition was very good, except that the bunker sand was missing throughout the course and that is such a disappointment. Greens and fairways were in great condition.
However, the course aside, most everything else was a disappointment.
A very courteous two-some in front let myself and my playing partner play through on the 3rd hole only for us to be stuck behind a 3 some who were amazingly slow. For the remaining 15 holes we have to endure their ridiculously slow pace and multiple chances for them to do the right thing and wave us through......NOT ONCE did we see a Ranger or ANYONE from the clubhouse who could have easily rectified this situation and that is a huge disappointment.
On a very hot day, not to have a drinks van out or some kind of refreshment location at the turn is beyond me! Other than the obvious revenue plus for the course, the customer service message it sends by NOT having one out there is very clear.....this combined with the lack of a Ranger and a price over $40 each, it shows what Shannondell feel about their clients.
My playing will not be returning to play there again......I will certainly looking at other locations first.
Very disappointed indeed.
Over Priced Round of Golf
The fairway and greens where okay but the sand traps were dirt traps (no sand in most traps) and some traps had standing water in them. Course should have offered a discount to play that day and not charger $49
Great conditions, slow play
Course still in awesome condition, especially at $40. Slow play though, course rangers just watch the slow groups but don't actually make any interventions.
Nice course, terrible rate of play
If your looking for an enjoyable round, play somewhere else. There was no starter on a Saturday morning, so we got off for our 9:18 Tee Time half an hour late. The foursome that went in front of us were late to their Tee Time at 8:30 and decided to hop in front of us. After 2 hours of horrendously slow play, we had made it through 6 holes. We called the round and got our money back. It should have been a great experience because the course is in really good shape. Hopefully they can make the changes necessary in the future.
Poor Overall
I was extremely disappointed with our overall experience at the course. The course was covered in leaves and debris, which i can give a slight pass to due to the time of year. But losing a ball on a fairway due to leaves is unacceptable to me. The holes are very tightly packed together and people are teeing off in your direction whilst you are on a fairway on numerous holes. But my biggest peeve was the rudeness of the golf club worker. We teed off at around 1pm. The course was fairly empty and my parter and I played at a leisurely place. It took longer than usual due to the fact that it took us much longer to find our shots, even when on the fairways, due to the amount of leaves on the course. When we reached the 18th tee the club worker drove down to us in a cart and berated us for being the last group out! It was just after 4pm. There was nobody behind us all day so we it wasn't as if we were holding people up! Completely unacceptable behaviour. Because of these facts I can not recommend this course to anyone and most definitely will not be returning.
Dog leg city
Course starts out with 3 dog legs on first four holes
Greens usually in good shape
Over time the course has lost some of its best holes.
Course is a shadow of its former glory
Go elsewhere.
Pack your patience and wear a helmet
5 hour round at 8:30 am on a Sunday morning -- need I say more??? I'm a decent golfer and I honestly can't recommend this course to anyone with more than a 15 handicap. Beginners should play else where. This course really needs some TLC (tee boxes and fairway bunkers in particular). The place was crowded because of the price but I'd rather spend another $5..
Can do better, can do worse
Played here for work, so the price was right...free. All in all, the conditions were good given the heat and lack of rain we've had recently. Kudos to the grounds crew for that. One tee box was a mess but most greens rolled nicely and consistently. The bunkers looked terrible, but luckily most are avoidable. The one I was in was like gravel.
The layout, like other reviews mention, is kinda redundant. Dogleg after dogleg. But we had some fun cutting the corners and working the ball more than usually necessary. It's way too short, even from the blues. Not much of a challenge.
All in all, I didn't hate it. But I wouldn't rush back either. The shape of the course made it bearable but it's just a little too easy and boring. Great for old man golf.
Great Value
This course is one of my favorites, maybe because it is only 5 minutes from my house. Very well maintained for the money. Because of how close it is to me, I typically play twilight and I rarely even see another group. The people i have run into are always very friendly or helpful. Very laid back environment. I find the course to be pretty easy and good for those just learning who do not hit long shots. Bar/Restaurant are excellent
Well maintained course
Great course for the money only problem is I had to walk the course do to heavy rains
Terrible Experience
First time to play this course. Our foursome goes into clubhouse and pays $40 each with cart. After paying the employee at the counter tells us that the course is cart path only. Should have disclosed that up front on a day with temps in the 90's.(not sure why this would be since it has not rained recently). We found out quickly why cart path only. They have the course practically flooded with water evidently due to the heat. Most all of the sandtraps were half full of water (no rain recently), approaches so wet when you stepped water squished out. Balls would hit the greens and plug. I realize weather has been hot lately but courses down south don't even play this wet. Crabgrass on every tee box and most fairways. We liked the course and its layout however the conditions were absolutely terrible for no reason other than course mis-management. We will not be back here. Not worth $40 at all.
