The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Avoid this Course
We showed up for our 1:00 tee time to find a sign on the door saying course closed. They said the heavy rain the day before made it unplayable, but we weren't notified of this (about a dozen other golfers were there expecting to play as well). The course offered nothing to make up for this, and fell back on "we don't control the weather." I called the course manager the next day and he said there's nothing he can do. What an embarrassment. Nothing like having three friends show up on their Sunday to not play golf. I would avoid this poorly managed course. (Every other course in the area was open but booked up with disappointed Shannondell reservation holders)
Nice course
I enjoying playing here. The guy working in the clubhouse could be a little nicer.
Do not go here
I am usually not one to complain, but the pace of play at this course was just terrible!!! I understand that I may have to wait occasionally but it was waiting 5 minutes on every tee box to go. and then after our tee shots, we still had to wait to hit our approach shots. Very unenjoyable. I felt like quitting after 9 because we had to wait so long. Very poor management of getting tee off times. I will not be going back here although the course was in pretty good shape
Good Value for Doglegs
Short, crazy doglegs, good greens and friendly staff. Good value at $35 on the weekend for walking 18, anything more would be too much.
Busy Grounds Crew
Got there early. Went right out on back 9. A threesome let me through and I finished In a little over 3 hrs.
The grounds crew were busy cutting grass and weed whacking trees and trying to water hard dry greens.
I found out later that there was a 9 hole league scheduled to go off the 10th in the afternoon so the starter wanted the AM folks on the front in the PM.
Very little sand in the traps. The course is very flat. Not many hazards.
I would play here again for GN low price.
Lacking grass
there was a shortage of grass throughout the course
including fairway and greens.
Rude staff. Poor conditions. Way over booked.
Very bad experience at this course. Staff was very rude and refused to honor my Golfnow reservation. I've played here several times. Conditions are not great, and it is always over booked. I will not be back.
Tight, shorter course but challenging.
We played just after a soaking rain so it was cart paths only. This course is low lying and doesn't drain well so it was a bit sloppy.
The greens were in great condition with the exception of way too many obvious ball marks. I was fixing 6-8 a hole.
The compactness of the course is what makes it challenging and the management seems to take care of the course very well.
It was a Monday so the bar/restaurant was closed but I have visited it in the past and it is very nice.
Fun day
Course was in great condition. Greens were smooth and fast. Highly recommend course.
A Real Dump
I would first like to say that I have played this course several times and it has always been thoroughly unenjoyable. The conditions are poor from tee to green, the staff is as rude and unfriendly as they can be, and the pace of play is god awful. It is a pure money grab, without properly spaced tee times, where groups of 5-6 are the norm.
Thankfully, this will be my last time playing this course. Purchased a tee time through Golfnow, when the course was completely empty due to the weather. Drove an hour to the course, only to be told by the incredibly rude and ill mannered cashier that I would have to pay the rack rate. Both he and his manager pretended not to know how Golfnow worked and that they sold discount tee times, despite the fact that they've been on Golfnow for over a year now. They proceeded to turn away their only customer over about an $11 difference in rates. Very poor customer service.
I would steer clear of this awful course and go to Jeffersonville or Westover, which are right down the road. If there was a way to give this course 0 stars, I certainly would.

good course for beginners
I just started to play golf. I am 76 yrs old. This course is a very good course for beginners .
Current conditions
Greens, fairways and tee boxes are nice condition. Fall season ruff is quite hard underneath and bunkers need sand so watch your ball carefully if you stray to oth. Hope you like dog legs. Like the course anyway and would go back.
The Pros outweigh the Cons
I've played this course several times and pace of play has always been slow. There is no starter so you'll a lot of singles and pairs, and I've never seen a ranger out there to move things along. The staff isn't the friendliest, but the low rates make up for that. Aside from the negatives, the course is in great shape and a good test of golf. The fairways are tight on most of the holes and the rough is challenging. Greens roll true and are above average speed. It's a real shotmaker's course with a lot of dog legs. If you can draw the ball off the tee consistently you'll really shorten a few of the holes (2,4, and 18) and leave a wedge or short iron approach. Longer hitters can keep the driver in the bag for nearly all of the par 4's - accurate drives are a must since it's very easy to get into trouble on this course. Even though it's a short course you will still use most, if not all of the clubs in your bag.
The facilities are in great shape. Chadwick's has a nice bar and the food was surprisingly good. It was packed for dinner service - apparently a lot of locals come here just to eat.
Tight Course not for Beginners
The course is well kept and groomed very nicely. The greens are fast and fairways smooth. However, this course has very tight fairways, community tee boxes and I have never seen so many squirrels on 1 course in my life. If you are looking for a challenge and like narrow tight fairways this is for you. If you have a hook or slice you will not enjoy this course. Overall I enjoyed the day and would return if the rest of my foursome would .Tip: Watch the drop off hole 1. You can't see anyone below, leave cat at top until you have played the dogleg.
Poor;y Officiated
There was no starter so my foursome was sandwiched between a slow moving twosome and a single. Waited on tee boxes for 10-15 mins on first 6 holes while single behind us was right on our tails. All of the sudden group in front disappeared. Rest of the round moved at normal pace. Course was in decent shape but very narrow. Lots of doglegs!
The course had challenging holes
Had a great time playing my second round there. The putting and chipping green is a nice feature. Will definetly play there again.
Dog Leg Alert
Overall course in nice shape. There are a lot of dog legs on the par 4s so tee shot is very important. They could do a better job of marking 5th hole and 10th hole. Would play again
Seems to have lost interest
Tee boxes were mangled and greens were aerated Thursday. Staff was inattentive and rude. No pencils for scorecards.
Scorecards were Xeroxed pieces of paper. Starter informed us they were overbooked, so we should "keep up"
Finished front 9 in 1:48 and were warned by player assistant we were slowing down everyone else. Took over 2:20 to finish the back 9 as we were waiting for the threesome of "Regulars" in front of us.
I'm in no hurry to go back.
Mixed Message from the Starter
I like this course. We've played it a couple times now and it's a good location for our group especially when the one player comes in from out of town.
We booked back to back tee times on a Monday because there were 5 of us. We asked the starter if it wasn't busy, could we join up. He said it wasn't possible so we went off as a twosome, joined up with another twosome (one of whom was the starter since his shift ended), and our other 3 were joined by a single. We knew this could happen and we were okay with that but after 4 holes the starter (one of the 2 who joined our twosome) let another guy join us while he slipped back to join a different foursome behind us. He was the starter who wouldn't let us go out as 5. So it was okay for him to play with his 4 friends while we couldn't!
So this isn't really a review of the course just the lack of consideration by the starter. Apparently there is an "old boys" network at this club.
Otherwise, this is a good course that is well kept with a nice layout. I'll play it again since it is well worth the money but I won't expect any consideration from the starters.
Oh and the bar/restaurant is closed on Mondays (the day we played).
