About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

slow amd confusing
5 hr 45 minute round .... never knew rhis many hackers got yp this early!
hole number 15 has to be the worse mrked hole in montgomery county!
worse part, between holes 5 and 8 we were ducking for cover ss layout is gorrible. almost hit teice by wild drives!
it could be free and i would never play there again.
Course was average for local public facility
Staff was polite and courteous upon arrival in pro shop. Course was empty due to light drizzle and it provided the opportunity to enjoy the experience. The layout called for a minimum of hole management and strategy but conditions were better than area public courses. Greens were easy to read with few challenges. Chadwick's restaurant and bar was a golden plus.
Thanks,
John
Great Value
Aside from pace of play, I'm not sure how anyone could criticize Shannondell. Course has been in great shape all year, the price is unbeatable in the area, friendly staff, and Chadwicks is far superior to your average clubhouse food.
I've had a couple slow rounds, but you're going to find that at any public course.
Great for the money
The fairways are very nice, rough is somewhat tough to get out. It's not a grip it and rip it course. Some wholes you'll want to tee off no more than a 3 wood. Love the layout greens are fast.
Poor course management
They allowed groups of 5 and 6 to play and most of them should have been on a driving range or pitch and putt course.
Played Here Before
I like this course. Starter let us (walk on joined me) go early. Usually a lot of staff working. The greens and tees are in great shape. The sand traps are in very poor shape. Like a number of local public courses this one is trying to cut maintenance costs so the traps are first to suffer or get returned to turf.
What a nice surprise
It had rained all morning and decided to try this course out just as the rain stopped in the early afternoon. What fun. No one else in front of me and the curse was in nice shape, This has been great grass growing weather. Nice to ply on real leaf grasses instead of a;; the Bermuda type carpet. The layout is shortened on a couple of holes to protect traffic in the area so the course may seem a little short but the sharp doglegs and strategically placed hazards make it challenging and interesting. This is a gem in the middle of packed suburbia. Great facilities and good eats too.
PACE OF PLAY
As usual course looks pretty good for late summer, few rough spots in the fairways but to be expected with the hot weather over the last couple weeks. Have been playing this course since I moved to the area (~1-2 rounds per week) but will be looking for other spots even if it means playing somewhere more expensive due to the horrible pace of play. The last 3 holes were stacked up with 4 groups because of 3-some who had no business on the course. Practicing shots like they were in a PGA major. Then the groups behind them were taking anywhere from 10-11 shots, people hitting two balls, etc. The course has "rangers" but the only thing they look for are people driving carts in restricted spots. This has been getting progressively worse the last month or so. This place needs to enforce pace of play issues before I come back.
Almost perfect day
Course was in much better condition than when I played in the past (3-6 years ago). As I remember the course, the current layout has less rough and shorter carries of swampy growth. (This is a big plus when you are behind players who can't stand to lose a ball and search forever ). Bunkers are its downfall - no sand in most, wet and some filled with water. Its not a course that drains well/fast after lots of rain.
It was not crowded so pace of play was almost acceptable; having rangers who actually take their job seriously would be a big help.
Appreciated the GolfNow deal; won't pay normal price until pace of play is controlled by rangers
Fairly easy course with some challenges
Some challenging holes but generally course is fairly flat. Main challenge is slow pace. There are no monitors and some folks who walk and some ladies who do not keep us the pace back everyone else.
If management can manage the speed of play, it might be a better experience overall
It was a HOT DEAL, and nice day all the way around!!
I got a call from a Sandbagger friend of mine early on Tuesday August 1st looking for a game.. We're professional Caddies, so we're always trying to play for free or at least inexpensively.. I got on the Web and went to Golf Now and found a Hot Deal for about $15 a player w a cart at Shannondell Golf Club.. 148 teetime... Bookit Danno. We booked for 3, and then ended up with a Foursome.. Pro Shop was AWESOME in quoting the same HOT DEAL price of about $15 to our 4th since Golf Now had booked the 4th spot.. Pro Shop also accommodated us at a new tee time. The golf course itself was in nice shape.. Greens would rolling true, a little Slow, but it's not unusual with the weather and HEAT We've had of late.. I made a 40 footer for birdie on #7 to ruin my Sandbaggin friend's tap in Birdie opportunity, so putts WERE going down.. Shannondell also has a well appointed 19th hole.. Chadwyck's which has something for everyone, and Al Fresco dining if you like that sort of thing, and a much Cooler inside. All in All a great day, and a great day at Shannondell for 3 great Friends, and 1 Sandbagger!!! Definitely looking forward to playing again.. Chris Cat, J $, Bridgeboy, and Stevie Wonder
Good for the price
First time playing here. Not bad. The course was in good condition; it's not a PGA course so it wasn't pristine but it did have some rough spots. Some of the bunkers were either partially filled with water or had dried up sand/dirt in them. Hole placement was good. Some holes shared a tee box which I thought was weird but the layout wasn't bad. The course is a little shorter than expected but a good value for a deal on the tee time. I'd play again if I found another deal.
Good times, great shape
What more can I say, good time, course was in great shape
Shannondell
The course is in phenomenal condition and the price is very affordable. My only gripe with this course is that the bunkers are more dirt than they are pure sand.
Great Course Condition
The Course was in awesome condition except for the bunkers, but it had rained a lot during the week so I do not blame the golf course. I was able to find a Hot Deal that was extremely well priced, and completely made the course worth the money. If you can find a price under $30, I would definitely say it is worth it.
Each hole had differences and it made for an interesting and fun round of golf.
Could & Should be So Much Better
The course condition was very good, except that the bunker sand was missing throughout the course and that is such a disappointment. Greens and fairways were in great condition.
However, the course aside, most everything else was a disappointment.
A very courteous two-some in front let myself and my playing partner play through on the 3rd hole only for us to be stuck behind a 3 some who were amazingly slow. For the remaining 15 holes we have to endure their ridiculously slow pace and multiple chances for them to do the right thing and wave us through......NOT ONCE did we see a Ranger or ANYONE from the clubhouse who could have easily rectified this situation and that is a huge disappointment.
On a very hot day, not to have a drinks van out or some kind of refreshment location at the turn is beyond me! Other than the obvious revenue plus for the course, the customer service message it sends by NOT having one out there is very clear.....this combined with the lack of a Ranger and a price over $40 each, it shows what Shannondell feel about their clients.
My playing will not be returning to play there again......I will certainly looking at other locations first.
Very disappointed indeed.
