About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

The course had challenging holes
Had a great time playing my second round there. The putting and chipping green is a nice feature. Will definetly play there again.
Dog Leg Alert
Overall course in nice shape. There are a lot of dog legs on the par 4s so tee shot is very important. They could do a better job of marking 5th hole and 10th hole. Would play again
Seems to have lost interest
Tee boxes were mangled and greens were aerated Thursday. Staff was inattentive and rude. No pencils for scorecards.
Scorecards were Xeroxed pieces of paper. Starter informed us they were overbooked, so we should "keep up"
Finished front 9 in 1:48 and were warned by player assistant we were slowing down everyone else. Took over 2:20 to finish the back 9 as we were waiting for the threesome of "Regulars" in front of us.
I'm in no hurry to go back.
Mixed Message from the Starter
I like this course. We've played it a couple times now and it's a good location for our group especially when the one player comes in from out of town.
We booked back to back tee times on a Monday because there were 5 of us. We asked the starter if it wasn't busy, could we join up. He said it wasn't possible so we went off as a twosome, joined up with another twosome (one of whom was the starter since his shift ended), and our other 3 were joined by a single. We knew this could happen and we were okay with that but after 4 holes the starter (one of the 2 who joined our twosome) let another guy join us while he slipped back to join a different foursome behind us. He was the starter who wouldn't let us go out as 5. So it was okay for him to play with his 4 friends while we couldn't!
So this isn't really a review of the course just the lack of consideration by the starter. Apparently there is an "old boys" network at this club.
Otherwise, this is a good course that is well kept with a nice layout. I'll play it again since it is well worth the money but I won't expect any consideration from the starters.
Oh and the bar/restaurant is closed on Mondays (the day we played).
Good course, late booking worked
Needed a Saturday tee time with one day's notice on a good course and Shannondell delivered.
Over rated and unfriendly
Second time on course, first time we were forced to play the back 9 twice, front was closed. This time we played all 18 but were harrassed all day by course rangers. The course is not that good with grumpy old rangers makes for a bad combination. Won't ever go back, too many other course out there that are better.
Course in good condition but fairways too close
Played here on a Saturday afternoon. Took us over 2 1/2 hours to play the first 9, so instead of playing the back 9, we played the front over again, since it was less crowded. Very slow play and no rangers. As mentioned in other reviews, fairways are much too close, and balls were constantly flying onto our fairway from other holes. Would only play here again during an off time when not so crowded, since otherwise the course was in good condition and nice enough.
Wrong rate for my tee time
Golf now advertised and confirmed my 1:52 tee time at $35, however when I arrived, I was charged $49. The course claimed that they have informed Golf now of this error several times and would not honor the price quoted. Needless to say I was rather disappointed.
condensed golf
Course is condensed. A one point you're teeing off side by side. At times there are fairways on either side of you and you're wondering where the ball might be coming from. This slows down play waiting for players in other holes.
congested fairways
This would be a fun course if it were empty. The problem is that too many of the holes run into each other. There are shared Tee boxes. More than several times there were balls coming into your fairway from multiple directions, with a couple near misses to hitting us. We often had to wait for other golfers to clear our fairway before we could hit our ball. The negatives being said, the course was a fun layout with several challenging doglegs. the tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good shape.
They need a ranger
Way too slow, generally a bunch of hacks and old folks play here. Course is tight, with greens too close to tee boxes and fairways too narrow to hit consistently. There are worse courses around there but for the money I expected more. They really need a ranger to monitor tee times and pace of play, 4-1/2 hrs for 2 people is ridiculous. They have two people riding around carts emptying trash cans but no ranger...make sense?
Great place, close to everything...
I was surprise to know how close a nice public course was to King of Prussia. Shannondell was reasonably priced, with a very well maintained course throughout. The course layout was a little interesting to navigate will some of the tees and fairways aligning next to each other. We had a great time, the staff tried to keep people from slowing down too much.
We plan of coming back a few times this season.
Nicely conditioned course
A course in the old style that most of us seniors grew up with. Well conditioned. This course has lots of dog legs so longer hitters must know how to play target golf in order to score well. This course suited my game very well. Even though I didn't putt my best,I shot 40-front nine and 42 on the back.I was able to keep my ball in play and out of the heavier rough. Nice course for all age players.
Not a bad play for the money
Play here with my buddies a few times a year. Course was in great shape this time around. Pace of play was ok. Course has lots of doglegs and fairways running side by side so be on the lookout for errant shots from other groups. 19th hole is pretty sweet.
Very enjoyable
We had a blast playing through this course and the weather couldn't have been better. The course was very damp, to no fault of the greenskeepers, due to heavy storming a few days prior to our arrival to the area. The staff wasnt overly helpful or friendly, but its a public course so I didn't expect anything spectacular. The course was challenging but not impossible and the other players certainly made a beginner like me feel at home.
NICE!
nice course! greens in good shape, as well as fairways. layout is tricky for first time players of the course. unfortunately no driving range though ,If this course had a driving range I would be satisfied!!! Also, very thick, healthy rough, it adds a good challenge to the course!
OK to average
Played here many times, conditions were good. Pace of play was slow although the rangers were all over us to get going earlier then our round was scheduled to start. Lots of dog legs and very tight definitely not the best course if you tend to slice. The bar is always a good place to get food. In my mind not worth 50 a round.
