The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

One of the best I've played all year
The only negative thing I could say about this course is that as a senior player not hitting the ball as far as I used to it was a little long for me. The course is a beautiful layout and very well maintained. I think the greens were the best I have seen this year. Except for the travel distance for me, I would play here again without hesitation.
Good course
The course felt lopsided in terms of difficulty. The front 9 were fine, but the back 9 were punishing--narrow fairways, water hazards, and thick brush. Of course, it might just be my inexperience showing.
Great condition
Course was a bit short, but very challenging with many dog legs to small fairways and several blind shots - great condition from tees to fairways to greens ! Playing it again this weekend on a great Golfnow deal - can't wait !!!
Fast. Fun. Cheap.
I grew up playing this course back when it was called General Washington. I remember it being a complete dump. It's really become a nice course. Not long at all, but not short to the point of stupid. It has some shots you need to make. The 18th is a little ridiculous, but the rest of the holes are very fair. Par 3s are good in their variety. The par 5s are short, but again not pointless.
One thing this course has nailed is its walk-ability. SO walk-friendly! And if you're walking - it can be VERY cheap. Definitely use internet deals too - that makes it crazy cheap.
Final thing I'll say is that I played through a slow group in front of me, and my friend and I STILL finished in under 3 hours. And we were not TRYING to be fast. It was a quick round. My wife REALLY loved that about this course. :)
Not bad for the $
Overall a pretty easy course, it is very short.
Pace of play is sometimes an issue.
Not sure why but they cut a par 4 and made it a 100yd par 3, not what I would have done but whatever.
They just aerated the greens so that is why it is so cheap right now.
Ohh and the address that is listed on Golf now takes you to a residential neighborhood 3 miles from the course, you have to google it to find the real address
Interesting course
From the standard tees, the course has challenges. Only problem is that some holes are very close to others. Othersise, a good game of golf, especially for the amount paid. Usually pretty open in the afternoon.
Overall great course
I really liked the course. It played very true and even has some challenges. The layout is a little confusion because the tee boxes are really close to each other and not clear where you fairway leads. I would definitely like to play again now that I understand course better.
was told course was closed when i got there was never contacted that it was
I arrived and was told that the course was closed cause it was to wet. The pro said he called anyone who had a tee time to inform them it was closed. Obviously I was never contacted or else why would I have been there. I told him I booked through Golfnow and he said again I called everyone. I showed him my phone and lack of call from the course and was never even given an apology. I drove an hour total to and from the course. I will never book again for this course because you cant trust the pro.
Have played here 3 straight weeks and enjoyed the course and bar/restaurant afterwards.
Good course conditions and layout. I play from Sr tees that seem to be a bit short. White tees too long for my game. Course needs some/more marshal supervision, and a little better signage at several locations along the cart path directing players to next tee box. Good locker room facility and a very good bar and restaurant. Definitely recommend.
Great value
The course had taken on a lot of rain in the morning but still played well. Greens are in great condition. Short course but you need to hit the ball straight or you can find yourself in some trouble.
Very slow.
Shannondell is decent enough for being so close to Philly, but don't expect to get a quick round in. They don't pair people up so prepare for a long day. $50 for a weekend round is kind of steep for what it is, but you could do worse than playing here. The course is pretty short (I only hit driver 3 or 4 times) so I'd suggest to play from the Blues if you hit your driver over 265.
good value
If you're a long hitter, there's not alot of holes to use your driver due to sand, narrow fairways, doglegs and difficult rough. Greens were slow, but there's been alot of rain lately. Didn't rush but played in under 3 hrs.(on a Friday).
Course has lots of doglegs that are similar.
I like playing the course because the condition was good especially the greens.
Some open and some narrow
I like this course.
Some holes are narrow and lined with trees. Others are wide open.
Will play again!
Course in great condition.
Greens were great. Fairways were in great shape. As good as any course I played in the last year. Course is not super long, but back tees are as long as I usually play anyway. Tight fairways. Greens were lush, but relatively quick.
Doglegs All Over!
I've played Shannondell twice now, and I've enjoyed it thoroughly both times. The course is relatively short compared to most of the clubs I've played at, but where it lacks in distance, it makes up for in doglegs. The "grip it and rip it" approach will not work on this golf course. Some holes literally turn 90 degrees left or right. It's an interesting little track and it'll make you use all the clubs in your bag. The greens were a little slower than normal today (because of the rain), but otherwise the conditions were excellent.
Good value for money
Course is in good shape. Greens and teeboxes decent shape. Not very difficult - very good course for shorter hitters and husband and wife pairs. A little tight on the back nine. Price very reasonable. Friendly proshop. Bar and full service restaurant after the round very good.
Good value
Worth the money. Group in front of us was a bit slow. Need better signage to route around course, had to make a few u-turns to find tee boxes.
good conditions- bad layout
The course was in good shape for an early season round, but i remember why I haven't played this course in over ten years. the holes are overlapping and frequent shots are hit into groups on other holes. Our group was hit into several times and only once did we know that a ball was coming near us. DANGEROUS.
Worth the Golf Now Deal but too slow.
Worth the Golf Now Deal but too slow. Took us over five + hours to play.

I just had the same experience. I guess they don't learn from their mistakes.
