About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Beautiful course
Well keep course. Pace of play good and very nice greens. Course not too difficult
Not a bad track
Not a glamorous course, some fairways and most teeboxes struggle with crabgrass and other disease patches, but the greens were in surprisingly good shape, sand traps too, although there aren't that many of them. Played as a twosome at noon on Saturday of Labor day weekend, no one behind us all day, so was able to play two balls just for fun. The restaurant/bar facility outclasses the course - beautiful bar and restaurant, beer on tap was icy cold, perfect after a hot day.
A little slow but decent deal
Iwe found a deal for around $44 for 18 and a cart on golf now. The course honored the deal and starter and ranger were both friendly. Ranger actually made his rounds checking on pace of play which is nice because a foursome in front of us was very slow and should've let us play through. Course was in good shape, fairways cut, rough not outta control, greens were fast, and bunkers were actually playable with soft sand. Overall a good experience for the money, I'd go back
Great course, Just a little slow
Arrived early and starter sent me on my way. Very friendly and willing to accommodate. Course is in great shape. Very surprised at the quality for the price that I paid on golf now. I will definitely be playing here again. However, they need to get a ranger out to push people along. There were walkers that were playing faster than some groups of 3 and 4. I only made it to the 15th hole before I couldn't take it anymore and decided to just leave because there were 3 groups backed up at the tee with no courtesy to other players.
Somewhat short and tight, well maintained.
It was a generally good course. Too short for my preferences but it made me pick clubs to land shots due to that and the tightness of the fairways. Was in good shape. Fairly flat. Better than the usual beginner course but not one I'd habitually visit. If not a long hitter or able to deal with elevation changes you'd like it here.
User friendly course with friendly staff
We visit this area in the summer and always enjoy playing at The Club at Shanandell
levels the playing field
The course was beautiful. Loaded with dog-legs that turned around 200-260 off the tee. I personally had to keep the driver in the bag and got a chance to play with long irons and woods off the tee. Round was great other then pace of play from other groups.
Good beginners course
I haven't been to this course in a little over 20 years. Pulling up and seeing the conditions was a very pleasant surprise. But as soon as we started playing the only thing I could focus on was the amount of times I heard the word fore! The holes line each other way too close and people are in your fairways all the time.
Avoid this Course
We showed up for our 1:00 tee time to find a sign on the door saying course closed. They said the heavy rain the day before made it unplayable, but we weren't notified of this (about a dozen other golfers were there expecting to play as well). The course offered nothing to make up for this, and fell back on "we don't control the weather." I called the course manager the next day and he said there's nothing he can do. What an embarrassment. Nothing like having three friends show up on their Sunday to not play golf. I would avoid this poorly managed course. (Every other course in the area was open but booked up with disappointed Shannondell reservation holders)
Nice course
I enjoying playing here. The guy working in the clubhouse could be a little nicer.
Do not go here
I am usually not one to complain, but the pace of play at this course was just terrible!!! I understand that I may have to wait occasionally but it was waiting 5 minutes on every tee box to go. and then after our tee shots, we still had to wait to hit our approach shots. Very unenjoyable. I felt like quitting after 9 because we had to wait so long. Very poor management of getting tee off times. I will not be going back here although the course was in pretty good shape
Good Value for Doglegs
Short, crazy doglegs, good greens and friendly staff. Good value at $35 on the weekend for walking 18, anything more would be too much.
Busy Grounds Crew
Got there early. Went right out on back 9. A threesome let me through and I finished In a little over 3 hrs.
The grounds crew were busy cutting grass and weed whacking trees and trying to water hard dry greens.
I found out later that there was a 9 hole league scheduled to go off the 10th in the afternoon so the starter wanted the AM folks on the front in the PM.
Very little sand in the traps. The course is very flat. Not many hazards.
I would play here again for GN low price.
Lacking grass
there was a shortage of grass throughout the course
including fairway and greens.
Rude staff. Poor conditions. Way over booked.
Very bad experience at this course. Staff was very rude and refused to honor my Golfnow reservation. I've played here several times. Conditions are not great, and it is always over booked. I will not be back.
Tight, shorter course but challenging.
We played just after a soaking rain so it was cart paths only. This course is low lying and doesn't drain well so it was a bit sloppy.
The greens were in great condition with the exception of way too many obvious ball marks. I was fixing 6-8 a hole.
The compactness of the course is what makes it challenging and the management seems to take care of the course very well.
It was a Monday so the bar/restaurant was closed but I have visited it in the past and it is very nice.
Fun day
Course was in great condition. Greens were smooth and fast. Highly recommend course.
A Real Dump
I would first like to say that I have played this course several times and it has always been thoroughly unenjoyable. The conditions are poor from tee to green, the staff is as rude and unfriendly as they can be, and the pace of play is god awful. It is a pure money grab, without properly spaced tee times, where groups of 5-6 are the norm.
Thankfully, this will be my last time playing this course. Purchased a tee time through Golfnow, when the course was completely empty due to the weather. Drove an hour to the course, only to be told by the incredibly rude and ill mannered cashier that I would have to pay the rack rate. Both he and his manager pretended not to know how Golfnow worked and that they sold discount tee times, despite the fact that they've been on Golfnow for over a year now. They proceeded to turn away their only customer over about an $11 difference in rates. Very poor customer service.
I would steer clear of this awful course and go to Jeffersonville or Westover, which are right down the road. If there was a way to give this course 0 stars, I certainly would.
