Bring a group of friends
We played here yesterday as a group of 16,, The club was very friendly from the first phone call ( Dante & Ken ) to the last drink ( Ally ) The course was in good condition and clean. The heat was tough and the bugs were tougher !! the bunkers where alittle thin as far as sand goes but thats the only downside. Everyone liked the course and said they will play it again I will too. Great chicken wings.
Average course - Could be much better
I have played downingtown couple of times last year, it used to be good and well managed..but now it seems the environment has deteriorated over the period of time.
Some of the greens are true to the speed and some are not. Pace of play is horrid, no marshall to keep up the pace.. it seems they just focus on the bookings from the morning.. anyone playing after 4 or 5 they don't really bother to have them keep up the pace.
I had booked to play for 18 holes but when i reached there were no starters for the 5:40 timing.. kept waiting for some time and then learnt they have a league on the front-9..i have to go the back-9...
I will play this course again only if i get a good price deal and as it is near to my place ..but anything beyond $40 is pretty high..
Over priced for what you get
Way too expensive for the quality of the course.
No sand in bunkers, just dirt and mud, can't control the ball out of any bunker. Most tee boxes are chewed up. Greens are good and fairways are in good shape.
For $80+ dollars, you should get better quality. Mentioned to staff and got "I know, we've heard it before"
Fun Course with Interesting Greens
Downingtown is not a long course but offers a lot of fun. All the holes are unique and have plenty of character, especially the greens and strategic placement of bunkers, mounds, and water hazards. Definitely a shot makers course. If I pick a shortcoming, it would be the conditioning. For the money they charge, course conditions should be improved a notch or two.
This course brings variety and challenge.
Overall course is in great condition. Nice fairways and well kept greens. Good variety of holes. Bunkers are the only question. They are more like firm dirt than sand. Otherwise a very fun course to play.
Needs sand!
The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape but the lack of sand in the traps cheapened the overall quality of the course.
This place has slipped
Downingtown used to be one of my favorite golf courses. I arrived and there was no starter. I had to find a cart to take out, and ended up having to clean someone's used cart out. Because there was no starter, the group I was supposed to be paired up with went out as a threesome ahead of a twosome, who declined to let me play with them. Thankfully, thunder started and the twosome left, and I skipped a hole to pass the threesome. The greens were somewhat slow, and were peppered with ballmarks. Perhaps because they overcharge for them in the pro shop, but I digress..... The course is somewhat short , but ALOT of fun to play. Bunkers were bare and muddy, but with the abundance of rain, that can be forgiven. Overall, I would suggest not trying to get out here for a quick round, or within a day of a heavy rain. Still a good track, but nothing like it's past glory.
Great Value on Golf Now!
Ordinarily a little out of my budget. Great deal on GolfNow.
Nice and easy
Nice course with parallel holes, allows good scoring if you hit straight.
Awesome Traditional Course
I played at Dowingtown CC again because I'd enjoyed it so much the first time I'd played it (about 18 months ago). I played poorly on the front 9 -- the easier 9 -- but did great on the back 9 -- playing bogey golf. I enjoyed the traditional look, small greens, and fast greens, which brought me back for a repeat visit. No interactions with the grounds crew, staff, or halfway house, but I played at the crack of dawn. Course was in great condition, and the greens were lightning quick (compared to the last course I'd played down in VA the week before). Glad that I could walk the layout; made for a much more enjoyable experience, and $20 less expensive than advertised on Golf Now. I'll definitely play Downingtown CC again!
Not bad
I played the back 9 in just over 2 hours. Pace of play was an issue, and there were no rangers out to keep pace of play going. The course itself was in decent shape, but there were a few downers. Sand traps in areas needed more sand - I hit two shots where the ball was sitting on hardpan in the middle of a sand trap. Also, the holes hadn't been cut for a while and were shaggy on the edges. On the positive side, the fairways were green and tee boxes were in good shape. The holes aren't real imaginative, but the par 3's were fun. Play the tips at this course.
Needs sand
Great challenging layout. Pricey when not using golf now. Good condition except bunkers need sand badly. Definitely worth a look otherwise.
Great family outing
Loved this course, so glad I chose to play here for our Father's Day outing !
Enjoy a Great day at Downingtown
My wife and I have wanted to play Downingtown for a few years but just couldn't get it scheduled. This past Friday with the benefit of a GolfNow.com
discount we finally played the course. The staff was very friendly and the course was a real gem. The course is not overly long but it is long enough. The greens are in great condition and are fast and challenging. The pace of play was excellent. We finished the round in 3 and 1/2 hours. This course is a must play. You will be happy you did !
fast greens, well-maintained course
I got on the course on a friday for $25 on golfnow...which is a far cry from what the course itself charges. But nevertheless, the course is well-maintained and definitely a fun course to play. Fast greens, pretty wide fairways, (though there are trees on both ends, so you've got to keep it relatively straight), fair amount of bunkers (not in great condition). But the greens alone make the course worth it. Pretty short course...but it's a fun afternoon on a course which you can try and score low.
Great to play if you get a deal
While well maintained, the course it self (layout) doesn't warrant what they charge on weekends or even weekdays for that matter. So fantastic course for a golf now hot rate. Most of the front nine is unremarkable, most holes have wide fairways, but bunkers playing into almost every tee shot gets old after awhile. Layout is such that you hit the same club into the green after a good drive on most holes, I've never used my 6 iron so much in one round. Greens were fast but held shots, so that was nice.
Mother's Day Round
Course was in great shape, and got a discount for my wife as it was Mother's day. The golf shop hooked us up with a third (turned out to be a friend of ours). We went out as a threesome and needed to ask if we could play through for the foursome in front of us and the threesome in from of them. No marshals were on the course. We ended up playing in just under 4 hours, approximately 4 holes ahead of those behind us.
Nice spot, but PLEASE do something about the traps
Nice spot, looks to have a lot of history, just wish that the traps were better. One inch of dirt/sand and then hard pan really takes the fun out if it. Also you could leave your driver at home for 15 of the 18 holes, but still fun shot making, nice setting.
