Rip Off
I took a customer to this course on July 24, 2013 to play 18. We arrived at 10:45 to hit a few balls at the range before tee time at 11:15. I was told they had no range to warm up. I was then told to walk up and grab a cart and drive it to the 10th hole which I had to stop and ask 2 people how to get to the starter. While the gentleman was friendly in the pro shop I quickly noticed they are charging almost $80 and you have to go find your own cart, and locate the first hole. Once on the course I realized this is a course that should be charging no more than $40 to play and take a cart. It was in terrible condition. The fairways had random patches of high grass and every sand trap was a swimming pool of mud. Nothing was roped off. I was highly disappointed.
Great Course
Great course, lovely scenery. Got a great deal 2:40 pm during the week for 30$. Not a course i would usually play due to cost (regularly 80-100$) but when i can love this course.
With all the rain we had, it played well.
Bunkers had water in them and were not raked that day.
Greens ran a bit slow, but were in good shape.
This is a Great Wooded area located in the mid of a city.
You would never think you were in the city when you play.
Nice layout.....
Pricey
I live around the corner from here, and for as long as I can remember, this course is nice, but not at the prices they ask. Plenty of bunkers make up for the lack of water (i think there are 3 holes where water comes into play). The fairways were pretty hard, balls were bouncing 5 feet in the air off of tee shots. The course is nice, don't get me wrong, but I think that $70+ is a little too much for this course. Slammed into a small parcel of ground, they have definetly done a good job keeping the course somewhat challenging and in good shape. Only knock other than price is turf conditions; could play a little softer, and bunkers could use some more sand.
Close to Good
Greens are slow and traps are devoid of sand. Won't go back until they get traps to normal level of play.
Not many negatives
Great course for someone wanting to have a good round with some very challenging holes. Must keep the ball in the fairway - the rough, although not very high, balls will settle in.
Lack of driving range is probably the most common complaint. Lots of trees and great sight lines. I highly recommend the course
Greens are a bit slow, but true. Well-maintained fairways and greens. Super long hitters will need to back off a bit.
Great layout fun to play.
This is my second time here and I've had fun both times. The course has a great fun layout as a traditional style course should. Honest and straightforward with nothing tricked up, just plain fun. My only issue is with greens fees and lack of practice area, but this won't keep me from returning. The après golf is as good as it gets. Friendly bar/wait staff and very good food and beverage facilities. All in all a fun day.
Very enjoyable course with really fun layout.
This was the second time I played here and enjoyed it very much both times. Friendly staff and great après golf facilities. Layout is fun and honest. Nothing tricked up and true to form as a traditional layout. My only issue is with cost and lack of practice facility, but it won't keep me from returning. Great fun place to play. I recommend it highly.
Ball Placement Off Tee
Shorter course that most won't need driver most of the day,
it's all about ball placement with tree lined fairways, good amount of slope, and bunkers in the right protection spots.
Greens are generally quick for the area, pin placements are difficult, may slow pace of play
Overall, one should be a more practiced player if planning to head to Downingtown Club
Downingtown deserves a look
First trip to DCC and it was worth it.
Nice, traditional, Northeast layout. Tree-lined, but not too tight.
Several tee shots make you think.
Poa annua greens in great shape. Slope and rolls add speed.
Bunkers in good shape too.
Course in good condition
Purchased the Hot Deal at 30/person to play. At that price, it was a GREAT value. However, its 60/person price during weekdays may be a little high.
Overall, the course in great shape. Green was relatively OK. It would have been a bit better if they cut the grass on the green a little more.
Nice course with some interesting holes
Course played easy until u hit the greens. They were extremely quick and severely sloped.
Very Enjoyable
The course was very well maintained, considering the fact that I played in March. It was moderately challenging, with a beautiful back 9. I would play there again.
Nice course definitely worth a try
Downingtown golf club is a well-maintained parkland style course with a number of pretty holes. Even though I played in January, the course was well-maintained. I've played in the summer and the conditions are better than a paxon hollow or a springfield, but not as pristine as glen mills or white clay creek. The staff is very friendly. The course is relatively easy. There are no huge changes in elevation. Most of the fairways are wide and the greens are relatively unprotected. Most slices or hooks are easily found. One negative is that there is no driving range to warm up on. Overall downingtown is an attractive course with a friendly staff that will provide an enjoyable round of golf. I recommend.
George, the pro shop manager was kind enough to call.
I received a call shortly after booking a hot deal tee time. George wanted to let me know it was a walking only day, since the deal I purchased included a cart. At only $16, it was still a great deal (normally $50ride/$36walk). It was nice of George to call me though, in case walking would have been a problem. Super friendly and great course!
p.s. I am not a female...not sure why I an not able to change the "Gender" in this review??
Course is fun and challenging
I enjoyed the layout of this George Fazio designed course. I had a good round and probably could have been better without the aerated greens. Missed a few 2/3 footers for pars and birdies. I will play this course many more times in the future and will recommend it to others.
Really nice course, but a bit pricey
This course is great to play. It is challenging and well maintained. It can be pricey but is a great course for which to take advantage of Golfnow deals.
