The overall experience with Golfnow and the course was a good one. Absolutely no complaints but the play time of 5:20 is not accurate. There was three of us that played roughly 1:00pm
Butlers in great shape
Perfect fall conditions.
No leaves, nice greens.
And the staff is great.
Course and work crew always fantastic. Wished I lived closer
Return to a "New" course
Back in the late '70's and through the "80's Butler's Golf Course, in Elizabeth, PA. was a favorite of mine and my golfing buddies.Back then there was the 18 hole course, and the 9 hole course, and we always played the 18 hole course. It was, and still is (I'm told) very challenging, with the finishing 3 hole among the toughest stretch anywhere in PA. I'd heard years later that another 9 holes was added, and thus the original 18 was called the
"Woodside" and the 18 consisting of the old 9 and the new 9 being called the "Lakeside". Today I played the Lakeside course (my first trip to Butler's since the late '80's). First note; the staff was very friendly, and I was sent out with a twosome immediately. I appreciated the front 9 layout, but it was also obvious that it was a bit tired - it will need some TLC to equal the freshness of the back 9. And what a surprising revelation that back 9 was. It was an exciting trail of golf, utilizing Western PA.'s hilly terrain to maximum challenge. It was a real treat, and I dare to say that the last 3 holes here are the equal, in challenge, as the last 3 on the Woodside. I will definitely go back. They do need to enforce some kind of pace-of-play requirements, and the players need to start repairing ball marks - no exaggeration, I fixed between 5-7 ball marks on EVERY green. Still, I had an experience that will bring me back.
Good course but SLOW
The conditions were good on the course. Greens were a little slow but receptive. Not a long course so playable for most levels.
The round was very slow. There were no rangers on the course to help speed up play so it took a long time. Had to wait on every shot on every hole.
SLOW!!!!
I really like this course. But pace of play has become an ongoing issue and today was the straw that broke the camels back. 5.5 hours is just unbelievable. They are rushing groups off the tee, only to wait 20+ minutes in between every shot. There are 6 employees having players checking out carts, but 0 out on the course regulating pace of play. I have had slow play issues here before, but never anything this bad. I won’t be back anytime soon.
Nice layout, 2 very active 18 hole courses
Played Lakeside course, open but challenging
Nice amenities from The Clubhouse, Bar/Restaurant great food at reasonable prices
Nice Carts and convenient parking
Will play again
Great course
Felt a little overbooked, guys in front of us really made our round last 2 hours more than it should’ve. Booked a twosome and got paired with some great guys though, Woodside was fun and challenging. Great course overall
This course needs some work
The tee boxes were overgrown like playing in my back yard.
Play was slow, so a ranger should be on the course always to prevent guys taking 5 strokes out of a bunker (and not raking it) also to stop players from taking ten minutes to look for a golf ball. Slow play needs to be stopped.
Worth the Value
I booked and paid for the round with Golf Now....best value that money can buy. Had no issues at the clubhouse and we got out right on time. I defiantly would do this again.
Early morning round
I like the course. It is fair, but will penalize a bad shot . Rough way to high. Bunkers were not maintained, and there were many soft areas. Looking for balls 5 yards off the fairway should not take so long, but the rough just swallowed them. Greens were good and pace of play was 3 & 1/2 hours at 6:15 AM.
Great Value, Slow Play
Make sure you have nothing to do the day you play this course. It will not be quick. Condition and layout make the course fun and challenging if you choose to play the back tees.
