The course was outstanding. Wonderful condition and nice layout. A few holes could be played much better the second time around as there are some blind landing areas to play the hole well.

The only negative was the "Pro" in the shop. Two of us from our foresome arrived about 1.5 hours before our tee time. We had never been to this course and didn't want to be rushed getting warmed up at the range and putting green.We were treated and talked to as though we were stealing his money. He was very rude, didn't ask if we needed to know anything about the course or practice area. This is a private club that will take "guests" on occasion. We were certainly not treated like guests and I would be very discouraged to consider a membership here, even though it is one of the nicest courses within 40 minutes of my home. The young lady working the driving range as well as the person on the beverage cart were both extremely friendly and helpful. If there were to be a next time, maybe I could skip the "Pro Shop"

I had heard some rumors about SPCC, but I was not prepared for what I saw when I played the course for the first time. The course was tremendous and the backbone is a set of 18 terrific greens. They have lots of slopes and are tilted when appropriate but most of all roll as true as I've seen in a long time. They keep the greens quick so putting is not easy by any means, but you'll enjoy your numerous 3 putts throughout. The shaping and bunkering makes me feel like I'm in North Carolina. While there are several holes that are relatively straight forward before reaching the green, holes like the 6th, 8th, 10th, 15th, and 17th are absolute standouts. They do offer public tee times in the afternoon for only about $50 to walk if you call the course directly. One of my favorites in WI.

Steven’s Point Country Club is a place I have been trying to get to play as it is a mostly private golf club, but does allow some public play. I played in a WSGA event and man was this course awesome. The layout is very well down as it was redone some a couple years ago. It feels like you're at Sand Valley or in the Pinehurst area in North Carolina. . The bunkering is phenomenal from the fairway ones and all the ones around the green. The fairways were in amazing shape and the greens “oh man” don't even get me started. Those greens were so smooth and so fast it was awesome. If you had the line it was a good chance of going in because they held their lines so well. I was a big fan of the par 3 9th as a cool who is a variety of tee boxes for a different kinds of angles. Next you have a shorty par 4 at 290. Lots of options blast driver up close to the green but there is some terrible, or hit a 5 or 6 iron and have some a 100 yards in. Next the par 5 15th is split fairway hole which provides you some options. Blast it down the left and have a better angle to the green, or go the safer route to the right but have a tricky short up near the green. Finally the best hole I thought was the par 3 17th. At only 150 yards it's not long but it's great visually placed all around cut up pine trees. A huge bunker guards the front and a sliver of a bunker guards the back, a great hole put it on and have a great chance at par. All in all this place has got it going on. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the restaurant/bar but they looked really nice. Great job Stevens Point Country Club.

Played SPCC in WPGA event (note the fee was for the tournament and included range balls and lunch before and dinner after plus the team game). I have played SPCC many times over the years and always loved it but it recently had a very major redesign. Many of the defining pine trees were decimated in the chemical disaster that affected many courses so they took this "opportunity" to reroute several holes turning par 3's into 4s and vice versa, and change a few green locations and bunkering and add a lot of PineValley-ish waste areas down the sides where the trees used to be. It will look better as the new fescue grows in to frame it. Fairways were all very good. Greens were sanded and rolled and tournament fast. I think it played harder but that might just have been because it was cool and windy with off and on drizzle and the lightning fast greens with tough pin locations. Not sour grapes at all - we did very well its just that I loved the old layout so I am a little biased but, as I said, once this grows in and I play it a couple times I am sure it will become a favorite again. Clubhouse /Pro Shop is great, new pool area looks nice.
