Playing an old friend
My wife and I were members of this golf club 35 years ago. The course has always been a challenge. The course overall is a great value for the money.. The fairways are mostly in good condition. The greens are above average and a challenge. I highly recommend it.
Great track for the price.
This was my first experience at Cumberland Lake and I will definitely be back. The course is in great shape. Tee boxes and greens were well maintained. Greens were on the slow side but still very smooth. Cumberland Lake is a very scenic course with some challenging holes. I look forward to playing here again.
Great day
The staff was very friendly and the course was in excellent shape especially as dry as it has been. The fairways are neatly cut. The rough is fair and the greens ran fast and true.
Awesome course!
I think someone new took over and they are doing a fantastic job. The greens are beautiful, the scenery is gorgeous and the layout is fun. Highly recommend it! This place is night and day from how it was my first trip there last year. Friendly staff, good food and fair prices.
My kind of place and people
Course was in really good shape given our weather these past few months! Course is nice and open but don’t let the greens fool you they look easy but have a lot more break than you think especially at the hole. Not much in terms of Amenities on the course but that’s fine, plenty of water spots. Chris the manager was great, like I said my kind of golf people here. Enjoyed a fast round under 3 hours. Not pretentious at all. I get very comfortable here.
Great Course
I played several courses while on vacation in Alabama. Cumberland was my favorite by far. Course was in great shape. The staff was very nice. The price I paid was more than worth it. I will look forward to playing there again.
Course is coming around and continues to improve under new management. Course is greening up, improving playability. Greens were better than average. Some were a little baked out, but they were quick and true. Fairways were a little wet, from the torrential rain we have experienced this week, but should the moisture should help to promote some growth. Still a bit thin. Be sure to come after 9 am on weekends to avoid the dogfight.
Work in progress
It's been over 10 years since I played this course so once I read it was under new management I thought I would give it a try. I'm not sure how far the decline was in between owners but there is room for improvement. The course needs a little more maintenance done. The layout is not bad and you could see where some seeding was done to the greens (hopefully just a few more weeks before the greens return.) The bunkers need a lot of attention and some seeding needs to be done to the tee boxes. All in all as long as they're willing to honor the "HOT DEALS" on Golfnow I'll play it again and recommend this course to others.
Great layout
I liked the layout of the course. talking to some locals the owner has really poured his heart into the course to revive a dying course. I didn't get to see it prior to his ownership but I did see quite a few staff out there working hard to prepare the course for the upcoming season. The greens were in good condition but a little slow this day. There is so much acreage around the course!! Will come back for sure
Rural track doesn't try to be what it isn't
From the moment I stepped on the pedal of the cart and heard the engine sputter and smelled the familiar smells of a gas golf cart, I was reminded that this is the kind of golf course I learned to play the game on as a kid. Hardcore golfers will likely look down their noses at a course like Cumberland, but it does not try to be anything that it isn't. It is an honest, rural track that is on the rebound after an ownership change and is doing the most with what resources it has. If you're seeking manicured fairways and greens, go up the road to Limestone Springs. But, if you want to bring a kid out to introduce them to the game or just play with some buddies that maybe don't play a lot, this is a good spot. In fairness, the course is much better in the summer when it's greener. Yet, the fairways and greens were perfectly acceptable for this time of year. The new regime has figured out how to mow the lines more appropriately since the last time I played here, so that is a plus. There was little to no rough with everything being dormant. The new staff has done a nice job cleaning up overgrowth and clearing debris, particularly on the 8th tee box. That looked good. The bunkers were rough on the front nine, but were much better on the back. Usually these types of rural courses are just "blast away" off the tee, but there are some strategic par 4s, notably the seventh. The 150-yard stake looks really close from the tee box, but it is much further than it looks. Plan at least a 200-yard shot to get past the pine tree on the left side, which opens up the green for the approach. The 12th is another fun hole. The hole is short, and plays downhill. The fairway doesn't appear to be very wide, but there is plenty of room, especially down the right side, so swing away. The 18th is a fantastic finishing hole. Great risk/reward opportunity. The fairway encircles from right to left around Cumberland Lake. Better players can go just to the right of the large pine that borders the green, but requires a 230-yard carry. It is a well-designed hole for good players because if you play conservatively out to the right toward the 150 marker, it may actually be a more difficult shot to pull off than being aggressive off the tee. The driving range is a bit of a disappointment. Small targets the size of a kiddie pool sit in the middle of the lake with flags. Not the best setup for warming up. Staff was very friendly and got me off early. Despite garnering only a fair rating, I wouldn't hesitate recommending this course to someone who is new to the game, or someone who likes to play in a relaxed atmosphere. Not long on scenic or shot value, but this course is an excellent value play on the bank account.
Beautiful Course
First time playing on this course - great golf course and amazing staff. I would and I am recommending this golf course to any beginner as well as advanced golfer. Looking forward to returning.
Need rain
course was dry. Needed rain . But was fun!!!!
New Hope
I enjoyed the Club Championship. This was first time to play here since the new ownership, and already the greens are in great shape. I new hope for Cumberland Lake.
Great course
Great layout play well
Will be returning
Need to move pro shop back downstairs
Dry
First few holes were not in the best of shape but the further I went the better it got. Back 9 is much better than the front. It was not bad but nothing special. Would play again if I just wanted to go hit the ball around again.
Cumberland lake
Greens were very fast and the course was pretty tight off the T box. Overall not a bad course
Worst course I've played
Will never play this course again. Greens terrible, fairways had weeds and bald spots all over was like hiring or of ruff on the fairway, tee boxes were awful. Worst course I've played at.
Sunday-Fun Day on the Course
Went to play a nice 18 holes. The temperature & weather were a little eerie with storms coming in. The course was average, the Greens were pretty with Fairways needing some work. Friendly staff, lost some balls but overall had a good round.
Sad Sad Decline
RUN from this course until its improved by the new people. It was a total mess! The greens were horrible, along with the ruff that was actually in the middle of the fairway. I guess they have stopped cutting any grass. Hopefully, they will be able to improve it this year. I used to like this course.
