Riverchase Golf Club

About
One of Jim Fazio’s first solo projects, Riverchase is a surprisingly tough challenge given its lack of trees and relatively short length. The course runs through the bottomlands of the Elm Fork Trinity River and is loaded with water due to a chain of interconnecting lakes created to collect heavy rains and irrigate the course. While there are no forced carries, water comes into play at least 12 holes, and out-of-bounds is a frequent concern because of the housing community that surrounds the course.
No. 5 is the most difficult rated hole–a long dogleg right par 4 that requires a solid tee shot to be in position to reach the green in two. The approach is long and uphill into a severely back-to-front sloping green with a lake on the right and out-of-bounds and bunkers on the left.
Two holes later, No. 7 is one of the toughest approaches in all of DFW. This hole plays due south into the prevailing wind, and the elevated green has a depth of only about 25 feet. Bunkers line the back, and the slope in front is significant. Ups and downs are difficult because of the slopes in the green. Take a look at the pin placement when you’re teeing off on No. 4.
The good news is that other than out-of-bounds, the course is mostly wide open, so you’ll generally have a shot if you just miss the fairway. The only thick spot for trees is along the creek on holes 14-16.
Getting there : Take the Belt Line exit off of 635 and drive north to MacArthur. Turn right (east) and drive to Riverchase Dr., where you’ll turn left. Look for the course on the right side of the road.

Poor mowing
The spring / summer rain has recovered most of the Bermuda on the fairways and progress seems to move forward with irrigation repair.
The mowing strategy to let weeds “go to seed” before they are mowed now have weeds throughout the course and many of the greens have weeds making it difficult to putt. Particularly bad on the back 9.
Cow Pasture posing as a Golf Course! Shameful!
I'll simply make a bullet point style review to save time on the "narrative". I think you'll get the story without the pain of me re-living the experience.
1. Slowest carts EVER. I thought for sure my cart was gonna die before the first hole. Come to find out, the guys I was paired with had the same problem. They were all slow.
2. The range is like a half mile from the Pro Shop and because of the slow cart wasted 15 minutes of travel time getting there and then back over to the first hole, so it really cut into my warm up time.
3. I tee'd off beautifully on the first hole, made a great 2nd (approach) shot just off the green, and because the grass was recently cut and dried out, i could not find the ball for all the dried out grass left behind that was inches thick.
4. When I saw the first green, I knew right then, my day was about to be wasted, as I may as well have been standing in a cow pasture! Crab grass patches were all over the green, and what may have been smooth was covered in sand and tattered dirt. The greens keeper should be embarrassed and possibly FIRED! I thought, well, this has to be an anomaly, they can't all be like this. WRONG! Two holes on the entire course were puttable, the remainder are garbage.
5. Not one watering station on the entire course!! (To be fair, the cart girl came by multiple times, but who wants to pay $5 for a bottle of water. (Especially multiple times?)
6. This place clearly needs a management overhaul, with someone who can motivate employees to take pride in their work (at least, the greens keeper), but for all the aforementioned other points, I put that on management.
This course is CRAP.
Horrible conditions for $70
This course needs to be shut down for a year so they can start over on the entire thing. It's in awful shape. And charging as much as they do for tee times is ridiculous. Look anywhere else in Dallas for similar priced tee times and you'll have a better experience,
Needs some work
Overall course is a good layout. But greens are lumpy and covered with some type of crabgrass or weed? Makes putting almost impossible and will add several strokes to your round. Rate of play is rough too, every 10 minutes for a tee time but both times we played there we didn’t finish any faster than 5 hours (normally we are closer to 3 1/2 or 4 hours. Staff is very friendly but never saw a cart girl and bathroom layout on course is not ideal.
Maintenance
This is a great track just wish the maintenance was up kept a bit more. The greens have crabgrass in them and there is quite a few areas without grass. Could be a great course with a little more love.
Rough Shape
Course has seen better days. Greens were not mowed and lots of weeds & bumps. Tee boxes were inconsistent (some mowed, some not, bumpy, uneven). Fairways and track was in average shape and for the cheaper cost it was a decent round.
Great layout
Fazio course design was a great track , greens a little rough but other then that great layout , some great holes.
Could use water out on the course , but I will say the staff was incredibly helpful and professional. I recommend playing definitely.
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE
Quite literally the worst course I’ve ever played. The greens are actually terrible. The fringe is completely over grown like they haven’t cut the grass in weeks. This course is obviously going under and wouldn’t be surprised if this is their last year of being open. The owners are most like trying to squeeze every last penny they can out of this course before they close the doors. Literally booked 18 and only played 9. Worst course ever. Oh and the kicker, no water through out the entire course…..
Don’t waste your money
I have never seen crabgrass in greens but it is everywhere on their greens. Only the last couple holes had decent greens. The superintendent should be fired and the cost to play should only be $30. The fairways were cut like rough and no cart to buy beverages. Worst course I have played in my 62 years. Shut it down and stop taking advantage of players.
The reviews don’t lie
I truly wanted this course to be better, but the poor reviews are spot on. Probably need to see a chiropractor after this round, just from the cart ride. Truly felt like I was off-roading both on the path and on the fairway.
The greens were punched, which is fine. But there were weeds, what seemed like sand traps in the greens. Fairways were barren, rough and just not great. Truly hate to see Fazio designed course in this condition. Also no water on the course, but the Marshall warned me before the round to load up on water.
The staff is nice, but will not play this course again.
Also not the course fault, but the only time where where my group was hit on from another foursome, while we were on the tee box. Truly dodging bullets on the last hole. Beware.
From the rough
Save your money if you're trying to play this course on the weekend! The course is in poor condition and the greens are terrible. Looks like the superintendent is on vacation! I grew up playing Riverchase and very said to see how downhill it's become.
Needs Work
Course is in rough shape. Weeds everywhere, greens are thick, fairways are more bumpy than rumble strips on the side of the highway and cart paths are literally crumbling.
Nice fun track but needs quite a bit of TLC. Almost nobody out playing on a Sunday morning, so pace of play was great (3.5hr).
Getting worse
Course is getting worse over the years. Course conditions are poor. Weeds everywhere. Greens are overtaken by Poa Annua grass. Cart paths are very rough and need to be maintained. Certain things I realize are out of your control but some things are. Weeds can be killed. Grass can be mowed properly. Cart path potholes can be filled in 3 minutes with some gravel. Plus you save wear on golf carts. Pace of play slow. No Marshall in sight. You guys can do better. Whoever owns this course At least make it look like you care about your business and your customers.
