Riverchase Golf Club
About
One of Jim Fazio’s first solo projects, Riverchase is a surprisingly tough challenge given its lack of trees and relatively short length. The course runs through the bottomlands of the Elm Fork Trinity River and is loaded with water due to a chain of interconnecting lakes created to collect heavy rains and irrigate the course. While there are no forced carries, water comes into play at least 12 holes, and out-of-bounds is a frequent concern because of the housing community that surrounds the course.
No. 5 is the most difficult rated hole–a long dogleg right par 4 that requires a solid tee shot to be in position to reach the green in two. The approach is long and uphill into a severely back-to-front sloping green with a lake on the right and out-of-bounds and bunkers on the left.
Two holes later, No. 7 is one of the toughest approaches in all of DFW. This hole plays due south into the prevailing wind, and the elevated green has a depth of only about 25 feet. Bunkers line the back, and the slope in front is significant. Ups and downs are difficult because of the slopes in the green. Take a look at the pin placement when you’re teeing off on No. 4.
The good news is that other than out-of-bounds, the course is mostly wide open, so you’ll generally have a shot if you just miss the fairway. The only thick spot for trees is along the creek on holes 14-16.
Getting there : Take the Belt Line exit off of 635 and drive north to MacArthur. Turn right (east) and drive to Riverchase Dr., where you’ll turn left. Look for the course on the right side of the road.

Getting worse
Course is getting worse over the years. Course conditions are poor. Weeds everywhere. Greens are overtaken by Poa Annua grass. Cart paths are very rough and need to be maintained. Certain things I realize are out of your control but some things are. Weeds can be killed. Grass can be mowed properly. Cart path potholes can be filled in 3 minutes with some gravel. Plus you save wear on golf carts. Pace of play slow. No Marshall in sight. You guys can do better. Whoever owns this course At least make it look like you care about your business and your customers.
Course is in rough conditions but still playable
I really don't want to write this review, but it's only fair to let other golfers know the condition of this course. First, the cart paths are the worst, looking like an earthquake had hit it. The cart paths are not only lopsided, but cracked with big pot holes and missing concrete throughout the course (very scary). Hence, it puts more damage to the carts tires and under chassis and without a doubt, forces people to drive off the cart paths for safety reasons. So, if you don't want them to do that especially on rainy days, then Fixed the Cart Paths!
Second, the fairways are filled with weeds (big and small) everywhere. There are also a lot of balled spots (like ground under repair) throughout the course, except it's not under any repair or properly marked. Hence, there are multiple areas that are just filled with pools of water from past rainy days, (which tells you that the course lacks proper drainage). So, if you hit a ball and it disappears, not where to be found, it's possible it's submerged in that pool of water or mud. In addition, there are heavily wooded bushes that exceeds to the cart path and need to be trimmed. Honestly looks like they had no land care this year. I got whacked while driving on the cart path by those bushes.
Third, there are no water coolers on this course to refill your water bottle. So, on a hot Texas summer day, you better bring your own 1 gallon jug of water with ice to keep hydrated. On top of that, there was no beverage cart while we played 18 holes.
So for the avid golfer, I'd say go elsewhere.
But if you're a beginner, this is a good course to practice since there isn't a Marshall or starter to chase you or rush your play. It's a good place to practice with a challenging layout for beginners. But it's definitely not worth paying more than $25 in my opinion.
Pretty good
Pretty good condition, greens coming along much improved since the last time I played here. #1 is still a really fun hole.
Horrible
This is by far the worst golf course I’ve played since high school and I knew what I was getting when I played in high school for cheap. This course is more neglected than anything I have ever seen. Everything from broken sprinkler heads, and overgrown greens alongside plenty of broken sprinkler heads all over the fairway. Sidewalks for the carts are destroyed and look like they have experienced a category 700 earthquake. Overall, miserable looking course. If I didn’t know any better I would say it’s abandoned. The cart girl was seen 1 times and we were stuck behind a group of 5 who threw up on the back 9 several times because they couldn’t handle their liquor. Unprofessional and I will never be playing here again. Someone buy this place and fix it up because it’s an absolute gutter.
Slow groups were not pushed by a Marshall
There were groups on the course of 4 people that were taking more than one shot from a tee box and second shots that was slowing things way down. No marshal on the course to push the pace of play and tell them to stop doing it.
Not Worth it for the Price
This course felt as if its upkeep had been neglected for quite a while. During our round, there were numerous greens with sandy patches, a few tee boxes that they seemingly forgot to mow, and the entire cart path looked like it had been hit by an earthquake. There were no water coolers anywhere out on the course which is absurd in the Texas heat. The only available free water was at the clubhouse. Furthermore, not once during our round did the food and beverage cart make an appearance. If we had paid $30 per person we probably wouldn't have minded as much but I think there are plenty of better options around DFW for $60 per person. It's a real shame because the course itself presents a fun challenge for skilled golfers and is in a great centralized location in Coppell. Unless conditions improve and more on course amenities are included, we likely won't return.
Poor course conditions
I’ll start with saying about the only good thing I have to say and it’s that the staff was friendly. The course left me frustrated due to the lack of decent fairways. Just driving into the fairway (even at 90 degrees) left your back hurting. That course beat my body up in spots it wasn’t supposed to. The fairways are in rough shape and it was easy to lose your ball in spots you’re not supposed to. The cart path is falling apart with no signs of repairs coming soon. I know the price was low so I didn’t expect a lot but I’m not sure how this place will stay in business with the lack of care they show for the course. There is no drinkable water at any spot on the course other than the clubhouse. There were numerous places that haven’t been mowed and overall I won’t go back unless all of my other options are full. They need to invest in smoothing and watering the fairways and repairing the cart path. Oddly enough the greens were okay. Not great but not the worst I’ve seen. I truly hope they put some money into the course because it’s in a great location
Fairways had not been cut in a week and previous rains had left the course soggy and muddy.
High Rough
Probably had to do with the rain we have had, but the course was not in real good shape. The rough was high, and the fairways were not cut.
