Great layout, but....
Tee boxes & fairways are in very good condition. Some of the sand traps are not. The greens are horrible and this courses rarely had a time when all the greens were in good condition. They seem to struggle with keeping the greens from burning out.
Bad Condition
I read the reviews prior to playing at this course knowing that the course was in not good condition. But also thought why not try it see what it’s really like, it was in bad condition greens we’re not smooth at all. Tee boxes were mostly dead grass and hard compacted dirt, Fairways were in decent condition. Course needs a lot of help to make it better; also is very confusing if your first time there ie Driving from one Hall to another you have to go under the tunnel to the right on the road to your left is a Teebox with no signs directing you where to go very easy to get lost Driving from one hole to another you have to go under the tunnel to the right on the road into your left is a Teebox with no signs directing you where to go very easy to get lost
What happened?
Decent place to go practice during twilight however the greens were in terrible shape . I used to play this course all the time and it was great but they have let maintenance go to the wayside. Had two groups of older guys in front of me with 7-8 guys in each group. Had to pass both of them up because the pace was horrible. Don’t spend more than $24 to play or you will most likely be disappointed.
Poorly maintained
So we went to play this course because it was in a convenient location, appeared reasonable based on the photos. However most of the greens are in pretty bad shape, and the layout of the course is confusing since one of the 9 hole sections is closed. The grounds look tired, and there is a lot of trash throughout the property.
Pretty bad greens. Looks like the course isn't being taken care of. Definitely not worth $60 to golf.
Value
Not bad for the price, overall rating is based on what I was expecting for a public course. Layout was challenging, which was good, tees’s were in okay condition, fairways were in good shape (not that I used them), but the greens were worse than expected, bumpy and too many dead spots.
Staff and carts were both quality, never saw a beverage cart, pace of play was as expected for a public course on a Friday, but did skip two holes to find a group of 6 slowing us down.
Overall, slightly above average and given the right price would play again, but prefer panorama.
Friendly round
Greens are terrible. The t boxes are worst if that is possible.
Day out
The course was in rough shape especially the greens very slow , very torn up, lots of patches of dead grass sand and other things. They are charging way too much for the condition of the greens this is more like a $20 per round Course.
Always a great a time
Longwood is always challenging and a great experience!
Needs HELP!!!
Very fun track but the greens are horrendous. Fairways in decent condition, bunkers were ok, greens and fringe need attention!
Maybe one day
I hate writing negative reviews about a really nice place with bad greens. It was like putting a fuzzy ball on Velcro, where there was grass. Not to imply that there was no grass on the greens as that is not the case. It appears that they had some of the black fungus that killed a lot of patches on the greens can only believe that they are working hard to remedy the problem and that could be a big part of why the greens were so long and slow. One or two greens looked like they had an equipment problem and the mowed strips were of different height with alternating strips looking like they had been scalloped with a bad set of mower reels.
The fairways were in great shape. No issues there. The facilities are nice, The people are nice. The cart girls are nice. The greens were not and that is my only complaint about this course.I remarked to one of the gentlemen playing with us that his put looked alike the NBA dribbling toward the hole the ball bounced so much.
I assume that they are trying to remedy these conditions. I don't know. I feel for the superintendent and sure hope this isn't the result of not putting anything back into the course. With so many golf courses closing or being turned into storm water retention reservoirs, I hope that the land does not become less valuable as a golf course. It is already tough enough watching golf courses in this area jacking their prices up in response to the COVID mania to lose another one. At least it was a Hot Deal and I did not pay full fare. Maybe they could borrow some help from their sister course and fix the greens.
Longwood golf course
Overall great experience. The only thing is their putting green are pretty rough. But I think they are working on that.
Tee to Fringe Great. On the Green........
From tee box to the fringe I love this course. Great opportunities to work on your swing. Then you go to putt, and the greens resemble the neighborhood stray dog who is riddled with mange. Putting there, really sucks
Same old same old
Haven't been here in a couple of years and I thought that I would give it another try. Shame on me, I keep trying to let this course win me back and it keeps failing. Seems to always have bad greens, but this time, even the tee boxes were horrible. This course is only 15 minutes from my house, but I would rather drive 30 minutes or more and pay more for a better experience. There is 5 other courses within 15 minutes of this one, so I won't be going back.
Rough Greens
Overall most of the tee boxes are in ok shape as are the fairways. The greens are rough and it appears they are trying to combat this and letting the greens grow out. Putting was frustrating birdie attempts foiled by conditions. Putting through bare and rough spots with the longer than normal putting surface is too unpredictable. Hopefully as the season goes the greens return to a good condition which makes this course a gem.
