A very pleasant surprise!
A friend and I were visiting the Pinetop Arizona area for the the first time and found Silver Creek Golf Club on our golf pass app. We drove the 35 minutes from our accommodations in Pinetop to the course in nearby Show Low. Kind of an out in the middle of nowhere course, we were very pleasantly surprised. This course offers great diversity in its layout, the fairways were in great condition, and the greens were in amazing shape quick and true and challenging. This course was really better than we expected for a small community. We will definitely play here again. Oh, and the pro-shop staff we met were great. Not easy, but a good test.
Greens are Challenging
Great layout. Stay below the hole! Good variation in types of holes. Must play if in the area. Would be hard to walk. Lots of distance between greens and next tee.
Beautiful Silver Creek
Great course, lots of wildlife, very challenging from the tips. Fastest greens I’ve ever played on in my life. Rolling at a 12 1/2 maybe 13. Approaches must land soft to have a chance to score. Great bar and grill. Amazingly friendly staff.
Worth the drive out...
The remoteness of this course, imo, adds to the enjoyment. Very few homes and very peaceful. They had had quite a bit of rain the days prior, but the course still played well. My husband (10 handicap) had played this course several times before, many years ago. He says the course is as nice now as it was then...one of his favorites for the area.
Great Value
Silver Creek is a great deal in the mountains. We love the open course layout The greens are really pure right now. The pace of play is always great. The course can be played short or long. I love to vary my tee boxes; it’s a way to use all clubs in my bag. I highly recommend this course if you are in the Show Low or Snowflake area.
Just Off Winter Lay-Off
Because I may be playing here again (step-dad has a cabin in the area), I decided to give this course an early season tryout. The course was just coming off the winter layoff so the grass was just waking up from winter dormancy. Nevertheless, the course seems to have a good layout and everything looks like, if you give it another month, it should be a nice course to play in summer. On the day I played, a front was moving into the area so it was windy. The course is not carved into the woods as you might expect, but in an area of high-desert scrub. Consequently, there is nothing to slow the wind when it decides to blow. Despite the wind, it was interesting trying to plot my way around the course. Also, despite the early time of the year, the greens were fully grown out and receptive, so a nice surprise all things considered. The only drawback was the debris that littered the greens, probably due to the windy conditions. I will be back when it comes time to escape the summer heat later this summer.
Excellent Course. Fast true greens
The tittle says it all Great layout as well and challenging without being unfair. Totally enjoyable. Highly recommend. Thanks to the staff as well!
Awesome
Consistently the best greens and condition in the state, no exaggeration. Been playing for 25+ years and never disappointed! Keep up the fantastic experience for golfers of abilities.
Speedy Greens
Nice layout with some challenging holes
Course was in great shape and the greens are really fast but true.
This one and Bison are must play courses in the Show Low, Pinetop area.
Crazy Greens
Course is almost worth it just to experience the greens however wasn't really please with how the course looked. The outside staff was tremendous!
Beautiful, rustic, laid back
Silver Creek is a fun, challenging course located just north of Show Low, Arizona. The elk are frequent visitors here in the wide open Pinon Pine forest. The fairways are wide and well maintained. The greens can be quite fast and tricky. This rustic course doesn't have any bathroom facilities on the course (except a porta potty or two) which is really the only complaint I have.
Great conditions and course
To be as remote as it is, this is a real gem. Course is in great condition and greens roll true but difficult due to undulation.
Very Nice Golf Course
My wife and I played this course and really enjoyed it. I am a 3.8 index and found it to have many challenges. The condition was wonderful and the layout was very picturesque. We played the other course in town earlier but found Silver Creek to be much more of a golf course. When in Show Low you need to take the little drive out (20 minutes) and play it.
Really Nice Greens
The best public course in this part of the state. Greens have lots of slope and very fast so practice your 3 foot come back putt. Almost every hole makes you plan your tee shot. Often windy as this course is very exposed but don't let this discourage you just let the wind be your friend. Take drinks with you no water on course and no refreshment cart. Cart paths are not payed so your bag will get dusty but don't let any of the negatives discourage you this is a must play.
