New member thoughts
My wife and I had been shopping around for golf course memberships and recently ended up at Prairie Highlands. The golf course is really well kept, and has plenty of challenging holes - without being gimmicky. There are multiple holes that force you to think hard about your tee shot rather than just mindlessly grabbing the driver. Accuracy off the tee is very critical as the rough is extremely thick in certain areas, and some of the fairway bunkers are deep enough where your only play is to chip out. Greens are fast and break pretty true, and members/staff do a good job of fixing ball marks. The course plays 7100 yards from the tips, 6300 from the blues, and 5700 from the whites, so there's a lot of variety there as well.
The club house is pretty plain, but I've been told they are looking at renovations in the future and expanding it. I just hope that doesn't raise dues too much as it is EXTREMELY affordable at the moment for the quality of the course. 9.8/10.
Generally good but....
I like this course . Has some unique holes and the layout is fun. Tee boxes and greens are in good shape. Some rough spots on fairways and sand bunkers are a disgrace. Should decide if they are going to keep them or just plow them under and put sod on them.
Overall a good day but could be better.
course was in good shape except the traps. They are so bad that they need to just be filled in!
Great Life is bad for golf
This course was a favorite for lots of years. Then Great Life took it over. Filling bunkers with pea gravel and marking it ground under repair...really. Not one playable bunker on the entire track. They are going to ruin golf in KC. Very disappointing
The fairways were in rough shape with large areas of no grass. The pace of play was very slow and the course marshalls were useless. Two of the three marshalls I observed appeared to be more focused on playing golf then helping with slow play. One marshall actually played around our twosome as we waited for a very slow thresome to finish #17.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Prairie Highlands Golf Course. We hope to see you again in the future.
An absolute embarrassment. The green fees should be free because the course resembles the range. Raggedy. The course superintendent (if one exists) needs to find a new career or go back to Mayberry. Too many other well maintained tracks around KC to get robbed playing this Goat ranch. Scrubs.
You are clearly too immature to understand the concept of the revival of a golf course. The neglect of the past combined with the awful weather this area has endured over the last year has exposed the flaws of every course in KC. With the exception of the traps, this course is miles ahead of others, especially after last winter. Have fun being miserable!
-A proud customer of the course
Prairie Highlands good course!
Course was in good shape with some exceptions of damaged fairways. Greens were relatively fast and running true. Pace of play was excellent as we played as a foursome in under four hours. Good hot dogs at the turn!
This course needs a lot of work.
Poor course conditions except for some areas around greens.
Course was not in good shape. Previously had GPS from the carts. Was told by starter "it doesn't work anymore". Bunkers were dug out but no sand in them.
One of the best to one of the worst
This used to be one of my favorite courses in the Kansas City area. Since great life bought this course they have done to it what they’ve done to every course I’ve played that they’ve purchased - destroyed it. The course is incredibly poorly maintained now. The bunkers are covered in dried, caked mud, like something you may have found a hippo wallowing in during the rainy season. The aprons and fringes are pitted and covered in weeds. The greens were recently aerated and are trying to come back, but they were very poor today. I played this course once last year, because I had always loved it, and it was the same then as it was today. I thought I would give it another try this year to see if they had improved it at all, but they have not. Won’t be back
Great Value, Awesome Layout
Awesome day of golf at PH. Course is in great shape, except for the sandless bunkers.
