Pace of play could be improved
Kudos to the course for at least making an effort to address the biggest issue with golf - pace of play. There's a starter that sends you off, they book tee times in 10 minute intervals, and the GPS screen will tell you if you're ahead of or behind pace. Really felt optimistic that I finally found a course that wasn't going to take 4.5+ hours to play.
We were 30 minutes ahead of pace after 7 holes, and everyone in front of us was playing that pace as well. But then all of us ran into the 9am-11am morning hacks, and the back 9 took 2 hours 45 minutes. Frustrating as no one but Boomers who are "in no rush" like rounds where they're waiting 5-10 minutes every hole.
Course is all about strategy, hitting it long here is not an asset. Lots of doglegs. Greens were very firm, even after rain. Shot OK here, although the slopes are definitely higher than what the scorecard lists. Seemed like the course had been redesigned a few times (hole 3 seemed weird), there's a few weird paths to get to holes.
Cart seats had the worst padding of any course I have played. The cards did have a GPS that showed how the greens sloped which was a nice touch for the 1% of golfers who play here that have that accuracy. The other 99% would trade that for more padding.
The course is away from the roads/highways which is much appreciated for those who play other tracks in Livingston that aren't. It's in a residential community but the homes are tucked away. The range was very good. Clubhouse had a good variety of food options.
Best course in Brighton
The staff and the pros are all such excellent and attending people. While sometimes overbooked it’s only because it’s truly a hidden gem that too many have found out about. Mike and Dean have been especially helpful towards me and have offered me help when I didn’t have to ask. I would recommend this course to anyone in the area. Great practice area as well as an amazing range!! GOLF HERE, LIVINGSTON COUNTY!!
Poor Choice
Home of the plugged tee shot. Cart path only because course is built on a swamp and drainage is not the priority here. Otherwise very average golf course, nothing that says special or exciting. Staff very Kurt at check in- after that you are on your own. GPS in carts has replaced rangers so slow play is not addressed. Cubby hole for F&B and not enough area designated to sit and drink after round. Double wide trailer for clubhouse says it all! Give it a 1 out of 5.
Fairways are great.
Fairways were great, the greens were a little firm and very fast. It took about 6 or 7 holes to get speed down. The golf carts with gps were excellent! I would play again, hopefully soon.
challenging but so fun this course is!
Every time, this course is always challenging but so fun to play at. Wet on most of fairway areas due to the heavy rain the night prior but kept carts out so maintained beautifully until the end.
Hope to play one more before hit the cold weather.
Better Options
Round started with counter guy that seemed to not know what he was doing-took forever to get checked in. This happened again at turn trying to buy some drinks and food-staff here needs training. Starter told us about great new carts and GPS but GPS kept freezing up giving inaccurate yardages, then the constant messages about how far we were behind in time as we watched the two groups in front of us take inordinate amount of time on each hole. The course itself was in good shape except for the greens which are poa annua and very beat up. For a course charging premium pricing during the week they could afford to have adequate staffing and have a ranger or two out patrolling the course. Very disappointing.
New carts!
Lots of risk/reward options throughout the course, with doglegs, well placed bunkers and of course water. Greens were a little banged up from ball marks but ran true and fast. Bunkers in great shape. All of this is standard for this course. They added new carts with touch-screen GPS that makes all the difference with this course. Like that they are electric too.
Very tight and difficult course. Not for beginners at all, but my girlfriend still had a wonderful time. The course is very clean, very well maintained, great staff. The only downside is no rakes at any sand traps.
strategic course
i liked it because not all holes are driver holes. you have to place your shots instead of just blasting it off the tee. made it fun
Beautiful Track - Can't Wait to Go Back
How could we have not known about this course before?! We saw the reviews on GolfNow and decided to take the 30-minute drive up from Ann Arbor. About 10 minutes away from the property, it felt suddenly like being "up north." The were dense trees, gently rolling hills and lakes dotted here and there. The clubhouse is not imposing but instead neatly designed - there is a nice pro shop and excellent rage facilities. The service was outstanding - very welcoming. Plus, they have electric carts with GPS and USB ports. We usually walk but it is better to cart here - distance between holes can be long with bridges over marshes and meandering trails through shady forestland (great for a hot day!). The course itself is beautiful and exceptionally well maintained. While this is a golf community, few homes are visible from the course. Instead, the dense forest, natural ponds, streams and marshes are integrated into the course design and make for some exciting challenges. There are sharp dog-legs (e.g., hole 4), split fairways (hole 13), marshes to clear on multiple holes and a lot of water in play. The course can play very long from championship tees or shorter for seniors, juniors and newer golfers. The greens are fast and quite true. At the turn, you coast right by the clubhouse where they have an outdoor BBQ set up with delicious grilled hotdogs and Angus beef hamburgers. The other golfers we encountered were friendly and fast. We could not have enjoyed our day more. Thanks staff at Huntmore - see you again soon!
Hidden Gem
Beautiful course with a great layout. Staff was friendly, drink and food prices fair and conditions were superb. Definitely will be back here again
Nice!
Certainly a fun course great layout .. challenging and and good shots are required to score well. Definitely going to go out for a few more times.
First Time
I’d like to come back again and get a better feel for the course.
Worth a second time!
Need a starter
Stopped playing after nine due to the poor pace of play. Too bad. Had a good round going and enjoyed the course.
Hidden Gem
Without question... One of the best courses around. Definitely challenging with some tight fairways but opens up nicely too. Great all around atmosphere. Going back again next week!
And the new starter, Gerald... really tops-off this great course/staff:)
Awesome little gem
Glen was very helpful and informative and help me navigate this challenging but fun and well kept golf course.
