Nice layout
I thought that the course had many challenging holes. Choice of tee boxes to fit anyone's game.
Great course!
Challenging course from the tips with opportunites to score well!! Tasty food and friendly service.. Can't wait to play this one again!!!
A Change of Pace
I've played this course for years and I rather like it. For one, it's a 36 hole course, so I often gravitate here since I figure the other patrons will be more 'diffused' throughout. The course, obviously, are North, South, East and West.
I played the West 9 and was by myself. Perfect day, had another single in front of me who I nearly caught by the end of the 9. Evidently people think it's ok to play three balls if they feel they have the course to themselves.
Condition wise, the course was a bit on the rough side. People don't repair ball marks like they should, rake the bunkers or fix their divot marks in the fairway. I'm more affected by the pace of play as opposed to the course conditions. They were ok for me, but I've seen them better.
I then moved to the South side, played one hole and immediately caught a foresome. They let me play through, only for me to run into a single waiting on a threesome in front of him. At that point I called it a day and went to the range.
Compass Pointe gets a lot of use by a lot of people, so don't expect the course conditions to be akin to those in the NoVa or Frederick area. But it's a nice course with a few different layouts (I personally prefer the North side as it's more of a links layout) that's sure to fit your game.
Pro Shop or Golfnow?
Online reservation through Golfnow.com stated a sleeve of balls with online booking. Pro shop attendant was addament they never do that. Said you can go grab a logo ball, i don't care. So you be the judge, course was average overall.
Interesting golf, fast greens
Well maintained golf course, interesting layout, challenging enough to think about coming back. Busy place though, little slow. Overall like it.
Confusing Price Charges
I was charged more than what was indicated on Golf.now.com. The staff offered a poor excuse for the difference. A player's assistance was needed to manage to pace of play - extremely slow!
Sad
Haven't played in a few years and let me tell it's so bad that i was embarrassed that my buddies from out of town had to deal with it. Greens were in bad shape, most seem to be infected and the entire course was full of bird droppings! looking down the fairway from the 1st tee you think the course was in great shape, until you get out in the fairway and onto the green. Truly sad and disappointing time having to apologize to my guest. It will be a few years before i get back out there again, there are plenty of courses in the area that are less expensive and in way better shape i.e. Clifton Park, Fox Hollow, Diamond Ridge to name a few.
Slow play was par for the day
The East course is closed due to renovations. We played the South/North, but play was somewhat slow. Greens were a little slow as well.
Let golfers know
The pro shop told us, after we had already paid, that the greens had been aerated. Normally I would not pick a course with these conditions but that information was not available through the tee time web site, or the Compass Pointe web site. Golfers should also be offered a discount when they find out the conditions only after paying. I prefer to avoid courses that have aerate because putting is just not fun or reasonable. I do not understand why a course would not let golfers know the conditions. It felt like a bait and switch.
terrible course
I would not play this course again.
Green and fairway is in poor condition and golf cart was extremely slow.
Casual round
Course wasn't very crowded and we were never pushed or waiting at any time. Fairways were in good shape as were the greens but the greens were very slow. Otherwise it was a nice day.
poor planning
Got paired up which was good. BUT we were sent off
about 3 holes after an outing had teed off. No prob-
lem with outings. I have played in many and know
they tend to be slow-everyone is having fun and not
so much worried about slow play. We caught up to the outing at the 6th hole. Took 31/4 hrs. to play 9.
When we went to 2nd 9 the outing was there. One
4some on green, one in fairway, and one on tee.WE QUIT. Went back to starter who wouldn't
let us go to another 9. With four 9s there was no reason we couldn't have, or even replay the 9 we just played(no one on first two holes). With 36 holes, to back players up behind an outing was ridiculous.
Horrible Greens and Tee Boxes
Glad I didn't pay full price to play this course. Apparently the golfers who play here have never heard of a divot repair tool. Me and the other people in my group repaired 10-15 divots on 13 of the 18 greens on the West and South courses. The tee boxes were also in horrible condition. Will not play this course again!!
Stay Away
When I made reservations at this course, I did so with the thought of the conditions at other Billy Casper courses. Needless to say, I was disappointed. The fact that we paid $60 to play at this glorified municipal course was highway robbery. I should have gone back and asked for my money back. The tee-boxes were pretty spotty. The fairways had patches of crab grass and burn spots throughout. The greens were pretty beat up and it seemed like nobody replaced their ball marks which lead to many bumpy putts. I will not be coming back to this course - EVER. On a positive note, I will say that we got diverted to the NORTH course because an outing took off from the SOUTH course when we were making the turn and that side was in much better shape than the WEST. That being said, the course was still not up to what I would consider a $60+ course. Compass Pointe lost a customer for life with the product they were presenting.

Course needs better maintenance
Was scheduled for North East. East was closed for "replacement of fairways". Played North South. Not one bunker on North course was playable. Mud and rocks, and water erosion. Seemed to be overbooked causing very slow play. Probably because East was closed. Cart gave us trouble getting started at every stop. Just overall below expectation because of previous play so disappointed.
Not great.
Not in great shape. Greens littered with ball marks and the tee boxes were kind of a mess. Nice scorecards and range. Staff was friendly.
What I expected
The course (south-west) was in good shape, and the greens were consistent and well maintained. We got a good deal through golfnow- $30 a person w/ cart included. If it weren't for the deal, we probably wouldn't have made the trip from Ellicott City. Overall we enjoyed our experience, and were happy we made the trip. The only notable flaw in out round was the carts that were provided to us. We might've finished the round faster if we walked.
North East Course is great
Compass Pointe's courses are always nice. Greens were in great shape. Tee boxes, and fairways were as well. A few of the traps were a little flooded, but our area was destroyed by really heavy rain the night prior, so not a shock on that part. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall, I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging, but nice round in the area. A word to the wise, #8 on the North East course goes further left that you would think it does off that blind tee shot.
