poor planning
Got paired up which was good. BUT we were sent off
about 3 holes after an outing had teed off. No prob-
lem with outings. I have played in many and know
they tend to be slow-everyone is having fun and not
so much worried about slow play. We caught up to the outing at the 6th hole. Took 31/4 hrs. to play 9.
When we went to 2nd 9 the outing was there. One
4some on green, one in fairway, and one on tee.WE QUIT. Went back to starter who wouldn't
let us go to another 9. With four 9s there was no reason we couldn't have, or even replay the 9 we just played(no one on first two holes). With 36 holes, to back players up behind an outing was ridiculous.
Horrible Greens and Tee Boxes
Glad I didn't pay full price to play this course. Apparently the golfers who play here have never heard of a divot repair tool. Me and the other people in my group repaired 10-15 divots on 13 of the 18 greens on the West and South courses. The tee boxes were also in horrible condition. Will not play this course again!!
Stay Away
When I made reservations at this course, I did so with the thought of the conditions at other Billy Casper courses. Needless to say, I was disappointed. The fact that we paid $60 to play at this glorified municipal course was highway robbery. I should have gone back and asked for my money back. The tee-boxes were pretty spotty. The fairways had patches of crab grass and burn spots throughout. The greens were pretty beat up and it seemed like nobody replaced their ball marks which lead to many bumpy putts. I will not be coming back to this course - EVER. On a positive note, I will say that we got diverted to the NORTH course because an outing took off from the SOUTH course when we were making the turn and that side was in much better shape than the WEST. That being said, the course was still not up to what I would consider a $60+ course. Compass Pointe lost a customer for life with the product they were presenting.

Course needs better maintenance
Was scheduled for North East. East was closed for "replacement of fairways". Played North South. Not one bunker on North course was playable. Mud and rocks, and water erosion. Seemed to be overbooked causing very slow play. Probably because East was closed. Cart gave us trouble getting started at every stop. Just overall below expectation because of previous play so disappointed.
Not great.
Not in great shape. Greens littered with ball marks and the tee boxes were kind of a mess. Nice scorecards and range. Staff was friendly.
What I expected
The course (south-west) was in good shape, and the greens were consistent and well maintained. We got a good deal through golfnow- $30 a person w/ cart included. If it weren't for the deal, we probably wouldn't have made the trip from Ellicott City. Overall we enjoyed our experience, and were happy we made the trip. The only notable flaw in out round was the carts that were provided to us. We might've finished the round faster if we walked.
North East Course is great
Compass Pointe's courses are always nice. Greens were in great shape. Tee boxes, and fairways were as well. A few of the traps were a little flooded, but our area was destroyed by really heavy rain the night prior, so not a shock on that part. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall, I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging, but nice round in the area. A word to the wise, #8 on the North East course goes further left that you would think it does off that blind tee shot.
First timer
Overall a good experience, first time playing here and was surprised at the green speed, very slow for this to of year. Staff was great
Good Conditions
I have played this course a number of times over the last 3 years. This year is the best conditions that I have seen. I have played a few times this year and I will be back.
Better - but not great
Typical Compass Pointe - what could be a great layout/facility is just average.
- fairways were in decent shape.
- rough was very sparce/chunky - has always been that way.
- greens were ok. all of them were hard and less than receptive, but there were major differences in speed between north course and east course.
- pace was good - on one in front of us, threesome behind us, but they never pushed.
- sunday afternoon time at almost $60 is over-priced for where you're playing.

hit it straight...or else
Play was slow because there is trouble just off of fairways. Must stay in fairway to score well and play in under 5 hours. No marshalls on course. Greens were fine with good speed. My tee time was early morning and there were 10 guys in line to pay. Very slow pro shop staff with computer that requires many mouse clicks. So slow I didn't have time to hit balls to warm up. Price reasonable for weekend. Still enjoyed the round.
Good Weekend Round
Got around as a twosome in a little over 4 hours on a weekend. Very nice. Course was in good shape.
underwhelming for the price
The layout is great and has the potential to be an excellent and challenging course. Unfortunately the course is not maintained. Many of the greens had dead spots and the bunkers were hard as a rock and completely unplayable. The fairways were in decent shape, but still had dead areas. I wouldn't recommend this course, take your money elsewhere until they get this course in better shape. I will give them the benefit of the doubt by saying just 4 days prior to our round, our area had nearly 7 inches of rain. I really hope this course receives the care it needs because it can be a really nice play if kept in shape.
Not bad considering the weather!
The course was in good shape considering the amount of snow and frozen weather we have had lately. Cart path only is always a bummer......but we enjoyed the day and will play Compass Pointe again!!
Great Shape in the Middle of Winter
For starters stellar practice facility! Played the North and East course in the middle of January. The course was in great shape for the middle of winter. Love the links style of the North side and the challenging layout of the East. A couple of holes on East you really need to think about your shots. The pin placement was rather unusual for winter play but enjoyed the challenge. Some bunkers were unplayable due to poor drainage but can look past it due to the unprecedented amount of rain recently. Disappointed to find out there is no discount for walk option. The staff is always friendly and great experience overall. Go Play!
Scenic, challenging, fun to play
We played the South-West combination. It was a challenging 6100 yards from the white tees with two more sets of even longer tees for big hitters. Most fairways are narrow and you are quickly punished for missing the fairways (not much rough before you are in a hazard or woods). But the course is scenic with interesting design features and good elevation changes - well-placed hazards and carries over water or environmental areas that really make you think about the shots you need to hit. There are even two or three par 4’s under 300 yards that make you think about going for it, always fun. Course conditions were not the best, but not horrible, especially considering it is mid-November. The tees, fairways, and greens were actually in pretty good shape, but the rough was very rough – a lot of bare spots, crab grass (only in the rough, no crab grass in fairways) and, generally speaking, lies you don’t want to be hitting off of. The staff was friendly and pace of play was good, maybe because it was a foggy morning and perhaps a fair number of reservations were canceled or no-shows. We finished in just under 4 hours. Not much selection for food. Basically cold sandwiches, hot dogs, Italian sausages, chips and beverages that include several beers on tap. They did have a grill and French fryer, but were not making any fries, and hamburgers were not even on the printed menu. But for about $8 you can get a decent lunch. I’d recommend it to friends as a different place to play and give it a 3 or 4 out of 5 stars. It's no TPC course, but its better than your average public/community course.
Good deal for the money
The south to west course was in good shape. The greens were soft but they were very fast. The biggest issue is it took almost 5hrs to play. They put us behind a twosome yes a twosome that only had one bag which they shared and they played horrible. They held up the entire course there was no rangers to be found. After numerous attempts to push them along they finally quite after 15 holes.
Great Day, but need a Marshall
Really needed a Marshall to push the group ahead of us. A 3-some ahead, we were back up to 6 golfers on the 14th tee box.
Needs Attention
Played on Labor Day and paid holiday prices, which would be fine except the condition of the course was terrible. $68 for a round on a course that has unplayable fairways and tire tracks through their greens is ridiculous. This course has the potential to be great and has been in the past, but they are running it into the ground. Also, the staff could be friendlier and more helpful.
Poor Course
I was shocked to see a golf course in such a bad condition. Had to give up playing on 13 hole because of the Course was not playable.
