Looking to play the best public golf courses in Maryland?
GolfPass releases a Top 20 Public Golf Courses in Maryland every March thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. Elite country clubs like Baltimore Country Club, Chevy Chase Country Club and Congressional Country Club weren't eligible. The Links at Perry Cabin didn't received enough reviews to be eligible, while the Swan Point Yacht and Country Club near the Potomac River struggled with the condition of their greens according to multiple reviews and didn't make the cut.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

Blue Mash Golf Course
Green fee: $40-$69
What they're saying: "Solid course. Doesn’t seem long off the tee which offers the chance to play conservative but the course has a lot of unique holes with great risk-reward. Pro shop staff were great…showed up early and the worked hard to get me out early with the locals. Had a great time even though I didnt play well—which usually isn’t the case." - ewizard77 -
Waverly Woods Golf Club
Green fee: $64-$84
What they're saying: "It was a great day to play. There was a frost warning, and I got a phone call to give me a heads-up of a possible 30-minute delay. This was a shock and the first time I ever got a phone call. The staff was very friendly, the course is the best in the area, and the greens were very, very fast. It was a fun but frustrating at times. Great food in the clubhouse." - Derwood1290635 -
Mountain Branch Golf Course
Green fee: $44-$85
What they're saying: "Course in great shape, fairways, greens all perfect, ball rolled really good on the greens." Richard8690577 -
Links at Challedon Golf Course
Green fee: $19-$51
What they're saying: "My first time playing here, I’m not going out to shoot a good score, so it was more than I need in a course. Good conditions, friendly people, golf nerds would hate that the greens were long and slow, but I don’t care about things like that. Will 100% play again." - asimpson1 -
Glade Valley Golf Club
Green fee: $20-$73
What they're saying: "We enjoyed the round, the course was in great condition. The greens were fast and true. Some of the bunkers were not so great. I would definitely recommend the course to others." - ajh3530 -
Compass Pointe Golf Courses
Pasadena, MarylandPublicGreen fee: $47-$80
What they're saying: "I had never played Compass Pointe before and only did so by taking advantage of a GolfNow deal. The course is about an hour from my home but is worth the drive. Course was in great condition, but note that greens were of variable speed so not easy to gauge pace of putting. Front nine much more wide open than the back nine so important to keep shots in play, with water more of a factor as well. Although not nearby I would consider playing there again soon." - GolfPass Reviewer -
Enterprise Golf Course

What they're saying: "Well maintained course, friendly and courteous staff, nice experience! First time golfers, come back, regulars know what experience is like." - GolfPass Reviewer -
