Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

You can't beat Pine Forest
Pick your shots and enjoy the view, great course in a beautiful area. Course took a hit late winter as the greens struggled to recover from some serious cold, they have since made a strong comeback with great ground management
Don’t WALK this 11 mile hill country track!
Still one of our favorites after more than 30 years. While the greens and fairways can always use more water (it IS Texas, after all) the vistas, wonderful hole layouts and great use of topography make this the best deal around. But bring your own beer cooler, they have no alcohol license. But the snacks and food values are crazy good - tasty and cheap!
A great value tucked in the piney hills
I enjoyed my time playing the course , in fact everything was fantastic from the fabulous course layout , friendly staff with good breakfast tacos , to the people we met on the course. My only problem was the pace of a foursome who somehow did not understand the simplest rule of golf, if others are playing faster you can let them play through . other than that like Arnold would say" I'll be back".
Challenging round.
Great course layout. Some of the greens were a little tired. Loved number 11...200 yds across a canyon to the fairway! Staff outstanding. Can't wait to play there again.
Very fun
Even though there were many poor reviews on this course, we decided to give it a try and hope for the best. I've played all over Texas and this has been one of my favorite courses thus far. Though some greens are in poor shape, the majority of the course was very nice and green. Elevation changes on almost every hole make it a very fun challenge, and the views are outstanding. Moral of the story, No one writes a bad review unless they've had a bad game, so don't rely on them so heavily. Awesome course and will be back very soon. P.S. bring your own beer.
What Happen????
First time to play Pine Forest in 2018....I have played this course for many years and never seen the greens this bad. They were absolutely horrible....Many had more bare spots than grass..#1 green even had a 4' x 4' gouge...please, at least level it out...Drove from Houston to play with a friend....very disappointed....If you have a greenskeeper, I would fire hem...If not, please get one...
putting at the beach
I play this course often, and the last few months the greens have been terrible. The rest of the course is in decent shape. I will continue to play here because it is close, and I can book online fairly cheap, but will be branching out more often due to the green conditions.
Live in Tahitian Village
Good price to play but Course is in horrible shape, literally horrible! Friendly staff always and a great burger .
Not Ready For Prime Time (or any time)
Apparently it's way too early in the season for this course to play well - in our opinion, this course shouldn't be open in it's current condition. Some fairways were covered with a heavy mix of clover and course grass; couldn't distinguish difference between fairway and rough! Lots of "potholes" and rough spots. And when I called to ask about course condition a few days before our scheduled game, the clubhouse forgot to mention all of the greens would be freshly sanded! This course has some potential, but it needs a lot of work to make it playable, much less enjoyable. Wasn't worth the 3 hour flight or the 1 hour drive. Very disappointing!!
i will return to play again!
This was my first time playing the course , the layout is outstanding and challenging with differing elevations and angles making the course a treat. I'm hoping the owners will never change this , the staff are great, going out of their way to assist you for even the smallest request.
As I mentioned i will return to play again.
Changing owners
Didn’t bring any beer & couldn’t buy any. They had changed owners & didn’t have lisence yet. Breathe taking views; greens were rough. Otherwise a fairly good day..
The best scenery and exciting elevations.
Greens and fairways need slot of work. Have played this course numerous times over the last 27 years. The course is in need of a lot of care. It’s a great layout. I hope the new owner gets the course back to where it should be. Good luck. I enjoy coming from College Station to play here.
Terrible
Not one green could be considered to be in fair shape. Every greed shot. Fairways mostly pasture grass. Very poor drainage several times had to find different routes to drive for fear of getting stuck. Some cart paths fairly dangerous. Will be a long time before I consider going back. They have a lot of work to do.
Chalanging layot / Poor condition
This course has a chalanging layout and I can see the potential to be a fun round of golf. BUT the course is in very poor condition. Little to no grass on the tees and the greens are the worst I have ever seen/played in my 49 years of golf. I estimate the greens are at least 1/2 covered in poana grass (weeds) and much of the rest are bare.
I understand there is a new owner but a LOT of money, work and time will be involved to bring this course back. I do hope it can be done because I would enjoy going back some day.
Great fun
They had just aerated the fairways and the greens weren't in the best condition but I don't knock the course for that. Extremes cold and wet winter has hurt lots of places. Beautiful scenery is worth the round. Fun course, not too hard, but challenging. Not too easy, but, again, challenging. I live a couple of hours away but am already planning a return to visit family in the area (with a time. It in to play here again)
The greens were in bad shape and the fairways were punched!
Pine Forest Golf Club
I had a great time here. It is a great place to get outside and enjoy Bastrop! We played for hours. We love the weekend morning tee-time!
