Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Awesome layout
Great course with excellent views. Greens need a little work, but it is early in the season. I would play this course again, and recommend everyone playing it. Love the canyon hole, it does require a great tee shot to carry it.
Poor course conditions
I’ve played here plenty of times but this was by far the worst condition I’ve seen the course. All greens are lost, tee boxes are a sand pit, and the fairways are in bad shape. The clubhouse mentioned that there were new owners so hopefully they can get the course back into good condition. It’s one of my favorite courses to play but I won’t be back for quite a while.
poor course conditions
This golf course was in extremely poor condition. Tee boxes filled with sand not much grass. The fairway looked like they had not been mowed for weeks, looked like a goat pasture. The greens all 18 were in such bad shape that any putt longer then two feet you could not make. Twice when chipping onto the green the ball bounce so much on the green because it was not a smooth surface that the ball bounced off the green. The conditions of this course was so bad that they should pay the golfer to play the course. I will never play here again because of the conditions.

This course is an hour and 45 minute drive from my town. I have played about 8 rounds at Pine Forest. This course is in bad shape. Dirt for tee boxes and hardly any grass on the greens. We you putt, the ball bounces on the green. I understand this course has a new owner. Good luck sir. We will never come back to this golf course. I took some friends to play and they did not enjoy this course at all.
Great Hidden Gem
This course is a tough course for novices and intermediate golfers. Tight fairways and smaller greens , with quite a few elevation changes makes this a fun and challenging course. With it being right on the Colorado River the fairways and greens are easily affected, but the maintenance crew does a great job working with it.
Challenge for all
The course is a test for any handicap from the right tee box on a good day. This particular day was really tough, since the previous couple of days were wet one's. Making the greens and fairways really soft and difficult to manage. Overall, it's a good challenge for any handicap.
extreme value for money
Love this course, Total hidden gem! Was heading back to Austin after a weekend in Houston, pulled in and played a quick 9 holes. Course is as great as I recall, incredible variety and vista's, not having played here for a few years. Pro Shop worked with me to slot me into the field to play the back 9, whipped around in approx. 90 mins so pace of play was excellent!
Heading back there this weekend with my son.
Nice Visit
This course never disappoints. Challenging for most golfers. Well maintained for the most part. And scenic views overlooking the Colorado river is my favorite. To top it off, I got my first-ever hole-in-one on hole #12. Got close (6 in.) on this hole once before, but this time it went in. BOOJAH.
Lost phone found!
This is a really fun course to play! It's a beautiful layout with gorgeous views! The staff was friendly when we checked in and super when we were leaving! I took my phone out to take photos of some of the beautiful scenery along the way. Took it out on the 18th hole & left it on the seat. It fell out somewhere in the middle of the fairway. Battery was dead. We went back to look for it to no avail. Feeling defeated in my attempt to find it, went to the pro shop & left my name & phone# along with my husband's name & ph#. Their employee Billy came out & said I can find anything! Give me 5 minutes. He found it in 4 minutes!! I was so thankful!! Would recommend this place to everyone! Amazing
Good Value - Recommended
Yes, there are problem areas in the fairways (not talking about the rough) where you may not be on grass. But hey, I'm not playing in a tournament so I love it a small distance do I'm not hitting off dirt/rock. There are a number of greens that have some balding issues on the putter edges. Again, I just move it laterally a little to an equivalent distance that is green to the cup. No biggie. But #10 green was really hurting - water-logged and the cup was full of water to the top. Perfectionist or golfers with single-digit hdcp's may be disappointed. But the staff, overall conditions, and value for the dollar get high marks from me. I'm retired and on a fixed pension, so affordability matters I me. Even with a hour drive time each way, this course is an enjoyable outing for me and it's scenic views at 5-star.
This course is in terrible condition.
Its a shame this course is in such bad shape. It could be a premier course with the hills and river. Hardly anybody playing, which is understandable given the condition.
Good course with scenic views
Coming from the flatlands of the Houston area, its nice to play HIll Country courses that have elevation changes and scenic views. Conditions were good, some San Augustine grass was taking over in places near fairways and tees, but greens were generally good. Was a great value for a Sunday morning tee time, will definitely want to play again.
Pretty poor course layout
I played this course on 7/3/2017, Monday, in the morning. Course rate is reasonable. Weather was nice; not too hot since it was in the morning. However course layout is pretty bad. I won't go back and wouldn't recommend it to my friends.

This is a fun course to play. Very hilly and pretty scenery. Greens we're not in the best shape, but still had great time playing this course. Third time we have made 160 mile drive to play this course.
Nice course
love the layout of this course. great holes with elevation changes. Wish it were closer to Houston.

Course is in terrible condition! Greens and tee boxes are horrible. Fairways have little grass. Staff was nice but this is a course needing help
For a high handicap the course can be hard. The course is beautiful. I have played here many times and enjoy the layout. I played mid July and the course. Was in great shape. I will definitely make the trip from College Station to play again.
