Pine Forest Golf Club

About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Maybe in a few years
The River Club, formerly known as Pine Forest, would be a disappointment for your average golfer. Fairways are indistinguishable from roughs, and greens are indistinguishable from fairways. Tee boxes are barren. Good luck getting a tee into the ground. It is a work in progress as the ownership is investing in it. They are trying, and with 2 - 3 years of continued investment, it will be a good experience and worth the green fees.
Course in Poor Condition
Many of the greens had bare spots. The greens were very poorly maintained.
Bastrop River Club
What is wrong with these MILLIONAIRES????? how did they get so rich and NEVER learn??? thios is the BEST lay out in TX but NO grass cannot put the greens and they are still on line LYING!!! DO NOT GO!!!
You won’t believe until you see
If you like golf you’ll see it for its uniqueness. It’s beauty in its own way without greens. Don’t bother to putt. But I love golf and everything can’t be Palm Springs or Augusta. Try it.
The beer is cheap
If you want a place to go hit a ball at a target that gives a reward that looks sort of like a green, this is for you. For not much more than two buckets of balls you can be on a golf course and have some pretty darn cool views, and forget about putting because there’s no point
it’s worth the money and they charge you the appropriate amount
Perfect for someone just starting.
This is a course for simply thinking about strategy but not scoring. You can’t putt but you can get it to the green and pretend to putt (or kick to putt). Beautiful tee box vistas and incredible challenges to attempt. The fairways are simply not a reliable roll but an idea of just driving and being happy with the landing. Most greens are extreme elevation or depression. One par three was 170 but a 135 to 140 shot was all needed to roll rest of the distance. Still fun. If you want perfect golf- pay $100 but if you want to simply play this is fine.
Not great
Greens are a mess and fairways are not taken care of.
Not worth your time or money
I would not recommend this course. The browns bounce like crazy and are filled with large sand patches making putting interesting. A couple of the holes are decent but for the most part it needs a lot of help if the course continues to charge those prices, don’t expect amenities along the course. Some of the staff is friendly. Driving range is alright, although a lot of the balls are cracked or not even in the dispenser.
BAD
The greens are terrible. The fairways are chugholes
I grew up playing this course so I have seen it in its glory days. The course definitely needs some tlc, but the staff is awesome, and understanding of this. They are also aware that there is supposed to be a big renovation coming soon so bare with them. Again, the course is rough mostly due to greens, but overall still a fun course to play on a day off!
Very enjoyable course!!
This course was a joy to play, beautiful scenery and super nice shop!!
Bad greens
Need all greens redone. No smoothness on any green. 3 employees can’t keep up with the necessary work. If it wasn’t for Golf Now hot deals I would not play here!
Disappointed
Sad. Good be a fun course. Quit after 7 holes due to poor condition of course!
Losing balls in the fairways
That sums up the condition of the course🤔
Lots of potential, but too many holes are just in rough shape and need lots of work.
Poor condition of most fairways
Fairways are bad. I take a fake piece of grass to use. Greens are finally being mowed but grass is sparse.
