Pine Forest Golf Club

About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Fun course - don't walk!
First time to play the course. I was planning to walk, thinking that it would be fairly flat as it is along the river....or so I thought. The Marshall caught me as I was walking up to the pro shop with, "....we don't get many walkers here...". After a pleasant conversation I decided to get a cart. THE BEST INVESTMENT of the day!
Unplayable honestly
This would’ve been my 3rd time playing this course and let me start off by saying it was my last. Every round I play there the course gets worse and worse. Greens are non existent. Sand, ant mounds, and brown patchy grass for greens. Fairways were bunkers. And bunkers were weeds. You cannot even drive a tee into the ground on a tee box. Even if it was free to play I would not play here.
Great layout, Greens need attention
Love this course and layout. However in the dead of summer heat, the greens are out of shape. I look forward to playing in the winter.
42$$ bucks is too much!!
Great layout but the green’s definitely need a lot of work! I’ve seen improvements since the first time I’ve played this course but it is definitely not with 42 bucks right now.
Never again
I first played this course 8 years ago. Was quite nice back then. Fast forward. It’s going to take a heap of money and a ton of work to even begin to bring it back. Everything about the place is in terrible shape. Golf cart with no brakes and filthy dirty. Tee boxes nothing but hard dirt. Some places impossible to drive a tee in the ground. Fairways With craters in them. Long story short. Save your money and write this on off as a lost cause.
Terrible
I’ve lived in this town for 37 years and golfed here plenty of times in the past and this is by far the worst conditions I’ve ever seen. The greens are terrible and the “fairways” are non existent. $75 for me and a buddy to play 18 and we only did 9 and decided to leave it was that bad.
Such a waste!
I grew up playing this course and love the layout. Unfortunately the course has gone downhill and poorly maintained since after the extreme drought in 2011-2015. The greens are terrible and very slow. Bunker is being taken over by weeds. Fairways are the aftermath of battlefield. I won’t come back here unless $20 or less for 18 holes. I’m really disappointed to see this beautiful layout is being wasted under the lousy management.
Fun
This place is fun to play, some holes r in terrible shape but they’re still fun, you get more than you paid for. Take it for what it is and enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of it.
Needs plenty of work on the course, fairways bare on spots, greens not green on all of them, plenty of bare spots. New owner please improve this river treasure!
Challenging Course with awesome scenery
The staff was extremely friendly, patient play was great. It had rained the day before so the fairways were un mowed and the greens were pretty long. There’s also a lot of bare patches in the fairways. With that said I enjoy the challenge of the course and the view
Shameful
This course used to be one of the finest in the central Tx area. Hopefully there are plans in place to revitalize it!
Course condition issues.
Not a bad layout. Some well designed holes. Friendly staff and quiet, so great pace of play. The price is also very reasonable. The problem is with conditions. Very poor quality playing conditions from tee to green.
I’m told efforts being made to improve. Would happily play again if course condition can be improved.
Fun challenging course
It rained the night before so the greens were long fairways were wet, with that being said, there’s still lotta bare spots in the fairways the bunkers need some serious attention. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the value on GolfNow made it worthwhile.
Course in transition, hopefully for the better.
The course has declined noticeably over the last several years, but the bald patches on the fairways and greens, the cart path potholes and bathroom problems have set a new low. That’s the bad news.
We did notice several work crews clearing trees and moving dirt and cutting trees. We were informed that a new owner from California has taken over operations and intends to embark on a total renovation of the course and physical facilities. That’s the goods news for now, but we’ll have to wait about a year before even thinking about returning, as the extent of needed work is very significant.
Greens were horribly fast (no grass). Very windy quite often. Not the managements' fault! Generaly speaking, we really liked the course, challenging and for all levels but enjoyable.
