Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Bad shape
Course is in rough shape. Back 9 was closed. Greens were unplayable. No Sandtraps or water and fairways were spotty.
Course is under repair
A new owner is making repairs and still allowing some golf to be had. The back nine holes were closed and the front nine is in the process of re-seeding the greens. Beautiful weather and good fellowship was had - course is in transition
Terrible
The worst course conditions I've ever seen. Don't waste your money.
So much potential but the worst course I e ever played!
Greens were sand traps, fairways severally evergreen. We stopped score as soon as we got to the green of the very first hole.
This really is a good place to golf
If you are looking for prestine greens and cart girls riding around the course then this isn't for you.
Pine forest has a great staff, good food, and a great tee to green layout. As the staff continue to work the course to get it into the best shape it has ever been ........ they still allow the public to play.
The friendlest Staff you will ever meet
Accomodating to your wishes however they can
Golf at a bargain
I love Pine Forest
Will they ever fix this course? It has potential but disappoints
The “greens” are in just terrible shape. Many are Sandy. Some were wet, poorly drained (I don’t think we’ve had much rain, so it had to be the watering.) lots of fairways are losing grass, turning to sand. I thought that under the change of ownership or management, when the name was changed from Pine Forest to Bastrop River, I thought there was going to be some improvement. But none that’s visible.
Course conditions CONTINUE to worsen
DO NOT PLAY HERE
I’ve played here a dozen times in the last 4 years and today were the WORST course conditions ever. I’ve been playing golf for 23 years and I play a lot and always when I travel. This was the worst golf course conditions I’ve ever seen.
DO NOT PLAY HERE
It’s a shame
What a waste!
This course has an amazing and very scenic layout.
So much could and should be done to make this a great golf course.
Unfortunately the shape it’s in now is horrible and you can’t just blame this on the brutality of summer.
It’s just lack of care and funds.
Course fairways are the worst I’ve played anywhere and the greens(stretch) are worse.
It’s such a terrible waste of a terrific layout.
Really hope someone will buy this course and restore it to its potential.
Sorry for the bad review but it’s an honest review.
Course needs work
This course has tons of potential and has been great in the past. Greens were just sand and pretty u raven. No point in lining up a putt, just hit toward the hole and cross your fingers. Fairways were a bit too f the same, holes everywhere sandy and even dirt patches cover most of the course. Staff was great and pass of play was good. Just needs some TLC to be a great course again.
From Bad to Worse :-(
First of all, I love the layout of this course. Challenging & scenic. Unfortunately, the condition is horrible. From tee boxes so hard you can’t put a tee in the ground, to dried out fairways (this did help my driving distance with the roll on hard-pan), to greens made up of dirt and weeds. So sad to see this course in this condition. So much potential. Was hoping with new name (owners) they would invest in the course, but unfortunately it’s worse than before. I will try again in 2024. Hopefully it’s improved by then.
Great layout if course
Course both fairway and greens in terrible shape, 99% of grass was dead, I understand water restrictions, but you might be taking it to far, it’s like playing out in a cow pasture
Fun layout but greens are horrible
It was my first time playing this course and it doesn’t look like the pictures on the app. The layout is fun and has some pretty sights but the greens are not one of them. If you care about greens then stay away until they redo them which I heard was next year.
River club
Golf course horrible condition, price and staff fantastic, pace of play easy cause no one else on golf course
Was one of only four players on course, greens were absolutely in terrible shape. Water sprinklers were running on three holes while I was approaching the greens from fairway. Fairways were in terrible shape also. This was my first time playing here and didn’t know what to expect but it was not in type of typical playing fashion I’m familiar with. The only thing positive was that the staff was very outgoing and friendly.
Wow bad
The greens were sand. Tee boxes were basically sand or hard as a rock. Fairways were garbage. Good views but terrible course.
Don’t play
This course is simply abysmal, greens are even worse. Do yourself a favor and just don’t play at this piece of junk
Just BAD
Played this course a couple years ago and the course was well maintained and in great condition. So I figured I would make the hour drive to play it again, I made a horrible decision. This course is atrocious. Don’t worry about taking your putter because you don’t need it, can’t hit putts on these “greens”. I wouldn’t recommend playing here even if they paid you to do so. Very disappointing
