Good illustration of how tight this course plays. The 11th tee. Fairway not 20 yards wide. Forty foot elevation change to green. Miss the fairway and lose the ball. Photo submitted by BrandonWebb on 12/01/2017

Enjoyable round of golf!
Enjoyed playing this very challenging course! Highlights included getting a par on the first hole and seeing some deers on the seventeenth! Golfed with a friend who had never played Heatherwood before. I must admit it was kinda fun watching him get frustrated by this unique course layout! However prior to booking the round I warned him!🤣 He is looking forward to playing another round at Heatherwood though! Unfortunately the Clubhouse appears to be under renovation so didn’t get to eat lunch. I always liked the food there.
Don’t play here if you’re paying more than $20 for the round
Don’t play here if you’re paying more than $20 for the round - maybe don’t even waste your time at that. Greens are slow and in terrible condition. The course is one of the most difficult layouts I’ve ever played….tight tee shots on the majority of holes, difficult green approach shots with almost zero room for error. So many holes have blind shots, which wouldn’t be as big of a deal if the course yardage book was helpful and accurate (it’s not). All in all, a frustrating day at this course. (Pace of play was amazing, because no one is was there…and I understand why now.)
Flip flopped
Heatherwood used to have some of the best conditions around with some of the most irritating staff to work with. Today the conditions were not great especially the greens but the staff friendliness was off the charts. I will be coming back sooner and encourage others to help support this course.
Last 2 times I played there the golf carts died before end of round
Unable to finish round. Tried contacting pro shop, got an answering machine. Fortunately someone behind us picked us up. Course has lots of steep ups and downs, you do NOT want to have to carry bags back to club house.
I wouldn’t
Only good things I can say is the pace of play was great (made sense why the pace was so good, course conditions were awful) and the staff is very friendly. That’s why I hate the fact this place wasn’t worth the time or money spent there. Pro shop is empty except for a few polos and some $1 precepts. No sleeves or boxes of balls, gloves, or other basic golf equipment you’d expect to see available for purchase. Carts were dirty and mine died on me on the 8th hole. I get it, that happens but their phone was/is always busy (I had tried to call earlier in the day before and it was busy then too) so I had to walk back to the clubhouse to get another cart (which was also dirty and had empty beer cans and trash scattered about) All the greens were beat to crap, spotty, inconsistent and looked like they had alopecia. They need water, cutting and rolling in the worst way. Fairways hadn’t been cut in a while either so that was awesome :(
If you are a masochist then head on over just be aware the layout requires shot making, that place is tighter than your cheapest uncle. Leave your driver in the bag or bring an extra case of balls since you won’t be able to buy any good ones there.
They should consider lowering the price to equate to the value or closing for a month or two so they can get the place up to a decent of quality. Place could be decent but it requires time and effort or an infusion of cash they clearly aren’t giving or maybe aren’t equipped to do
Old Hoosiers
The is very difficult for the average player !! Must hit the ball straight or you are in trouble. Thing that is really difficult is hitting into greens that are above you(some 20-30 feet). My wife is an average golfer but because height of some greens had no chance hitting it from 100 yards. Greens need TLC water would help , just poor to play on. This course is all about your ability as a golfer!!

Great course and condition
Challenging with great features. Need to be accurate.
Great course at a great value
I travel to Birmingham a few times a year and many times hit Heatherwood on the golfNow app. At $26 during the week this is a great value and a well maintained course. The day I played there were just a few others on the course so no one pushing and no waiting. I will hit it again next time I am in BHam.
