Not For Everyone
Played this coursed yesterday for the first time with my wife. It was a warm but breezy day. Let me begin by saying the course is in good shape. Level tee boxes, true rolling greens, although the reads were difficult. Fairways were wide and green. The rough was lush and penal if you found it. My only complaint is the sand in the bunkers was inconsistent, but mostly hard. Given that there are 73 bunkers on the course, this is a problem. There are many hard dogleg elevated greens, and the previously mentioned sand is there to grab any errant shot. Local knowledge, which we did not have, is essential to scoring well here. This is the longest course in Colorado from the tips, but even playing from the forward tees, my wife who has a slow swing speed could not carry some of the native grass areas. So in a nutshell, great course if you have local knowledge, can carry 150 yards of native area and can stay in the fairway. If you can't, be prepared to part with many golf balls and not like your score at the end of the day.
Great Course, great challenge
I played this course from the tips. It was over 8,000 yards. It was an awesome test of golf. I truly enjoyed it. The course was in great condition...a little wet from recent rains but I loved it.
pleasantly surprised
Reading other reviews I got the impression that the fairways were sparce of grass. That was not the case. I enjoyed the round and would play there again
Long, but fair
This is a long course. It was in great shape at this time. The bunkers did need some attention; sand was packed which made it hard to hit a quality shot. Otherwise excellent.
Antler Creek
Little sluggish pace of play but wasn't the courses fault. It was from the golfers themselves. Seems they run at every 20 min instead of some courses that are 10-15 min. Grass was the best I have seen in many years.
Interesting Layout
Probably not the most scenic of courses you could play, since it is in essence a subdivision course. (Although the houses don't come into play)
Greens were perfect, but the fairways are still not fully in summer growth.
I'd play it again.
Better than usual!
Course has a history of being in rough shape until later in the season, however was pleasantly surprised at the shape of the greens. The fairways were somewhat thin on most holes, played the ball up because of that. A good challenge with some interesting who values. Would go back, just need some help in fairways.
worst fairway conditions I have ever seen.
This was horrible. The course conditions were very poor. I have never seen such terrible fairways.
Good Value but Poor Fairway Conditions
The fairways were in poor condition with many spotty brown areas/patches. It may be too early in the season to expect better. Pace was great, but no snack cart available. Overall value was good.
Good possibilities
Played 18 in 4 hrs. The greens are really shaping up well. I played this course about 4 years ago. The fairways are the problem. Lots of winter kill. You have to move your ball out of dead area to grass to have a fair chance at this facility. Very challenging course. I think by summer the fairways will be a lot better.
Poor Condition
Greens were just top dressed but that wasn't the worst part. The tee boxes were covered in sand, the fairways were soaking wet and 65% of each fairway was dead grass. This course is obviously in need of money. Tricky layout, most holes are blind off the tee. Can play as far as 8,000 yards from the tips. Going to be a while before this course comes back.
Are you kidding me
I have played courses all over Colorado but have never seen conditions this bad. Tee boxes were a mess. Fairways were all horrible. It was the worst 49 I ever spent. Would never go back. I no it's early in the season but I have been playing everywhere for the last month and most courses are in really good shape. This one was so bad. The layout was good and challenging but they should try and grow some grass or shut down or charge much less.
Great way to kick off the season
Picked up a great deal on GOLFNOW and was really looking forward to this game because it would be my first game ever with a actual (every stroke counted) recorded score and the day was beautiful! It was the perfect golf game - perfect weather and I got paired up with two terrific guys Dave and Tony.
I always forget the incredibly nice people you meet on a golf course . Not only the people you play with but the people in the pro shop.
I had expressed some doubt about being paired up with better players and the young man in the pro shop actually asked me if I wanted to be paired up with a later group (one that I might feel more comfortable with) now how often does that happen? In the three years, I've been golfing - it was a first!
Anyway, I went on to play a fun 18 holes and recorded a raw score of 162!
This is only my second time on the course but I love it. It really utilizes the terrain to challenge the player and mixes up holes with the quantity and layout of the bunkers as well as the differing speed of the greens. (Truly, I spent so much time in the bunkers as Tony so eloquently put it - I was going to the beach)
My only caution - don't dally on the 8th. You will be punished by mosquitoes. Keep bug juice on hand.
I loved the 16th only because it was so confusing at first glance that I chickened out and opted to play off the ladies tee. When I got to the ladies tee - I realized the joke was on me. Not easy by any means because the fairway is small and disjointed but the most interesting hole of the course.
My recommendation - go play- you won't be disappointed.
The nicest lay out thats not being watered or cared for
Range was a sand pile no grass. Paid $10 for 60ish balls, when I saw the grass I desided not to hit out of the "grass". The course is covered in died spots. Standing at the tee the only way I could tell where the fairway ended and the rough started was by the nice yardage book that wasn't in my cart I had to walk to a different cart to grab one. Seeing this place was painfull. Someone spent a ton of money to build what should be an amazing golf course. The lay out is very nice tons of bunkers and good natural creeks and valleys. It was busy witch I was suprize by after see how untaken care of this course is. I wouldn't play here again. You shouldn't ether.
Great greens for early season golf
Greens and tee boxes were in great shape for April in Colorado. Fairways were a little sparse but you could tell they were working on them. Only complaint, " Can anyone rake a fairway bunker ".
Early season bargain
Played the course on a GolfNow special for $25 with cart on a Sat. Good value. Greens were pretty good shape, sand traps had decent sand, but fairways had a lot of winter kill and were mostly brown.
Love covered greens
Putting on green greens that are soft enough to have to repair ball marks in March in Colorado is hard to find. I have always loved this course mid-season, but now it's a prime destination when the others are brown. 6 different tees makes this a course for everyone and great for mixed groups.
Be ready to walk alot
Staff were great driving range was in good, practice greens get you ready for some of the largest greens I have ever played large greens make for some very long putts. Only negative I had was the cart path only rule..You end up walking as much as if you just walked the course...That's the only thing that will keep me from coming back...It you go be ready to walk a lot..Everyone should play at least once..
Lengthy!
Would like to play again when it greens up. Very challenging course., and wind was not our friend!! Was good to get out, but with temp greens and 50-60mph winds and cart path only, not all that enjoyable. But hey......it's early spring! Will definitely try again!!
A great course that's worth the drive
Really nice track. Challenging, varied holes that bring a lot of risk/reward decision making into play. Several forced carries but well laid out and fair - wide fairways and six tee boxes for all levels of play. Recommend playing it from the white tees (6400 yards) for the first time unless your game is in good shape. Blue tees are 7000 yards and bring in a lot more difficulty off the tee. Or go play the tips (8000 yards) if you're crazy. Fast pace of play even with the challenge - played in 4 hours on a Saturday. Off the beaten track but worth the drive even from Denver. Highly recommended.
