Watching it Die
I'm sure this story has been told many times. This course used to be one of the top 10 in Louisiana. However, it is a complete mess right now. During the recession it was bought by the HOA to prevent the developer from selling it to home builders like he did the driving range. Since then, the HOA has struggled to provide the funds needed to properly maintain the course. Fairways are in decent shape, but that is about it. Most greens have about 20-30% surface area die off. Weeds are running through the greens as well. Residents are having to volunteer to maintain the course and provide funding out of their pocket to try to repair the damage done from the lack of course maintenance by the HOA. The HOA is trying to keep it afloat until they can pay off the loan they used to purchase it. I'm hoping that once it is paid off, they will start dumping payments used on the loan back into the course. They had to double the HOA fees to pay for the loan and course maintenance, but it is just not enough. The course and the community grounds are falling apart. Very disappointed that I moved here and hoping to get out very soon before my property value tanks.
Front 9 very different from back 9
Front nine was in a links style course. First time I played here and by myself. Hard to know what hole you’re hitting at. Front 9 greens also not in good shape. Many of groups quickly let me play through. Signs to back nine very confusing. Drove wrong on hole 18. Back nine was in much better shape with greens. It reminded me more of a Florida course with the lake. Scored better on back given I knew what flag I was targeting. Big expensive houses set well outside of driver range for me. Would play here again at hot deal price.
Had a blast
Was let go on the first tee and later on ten. Joined a 3 some on 13 and had a blast. Was extremely windy but the course was in great shape.
Copper Mill 2/13/18
This is my first time ever reviewing anything online. Drove an hour and a half to get there, checked in, asked where the first tee box was and the girl working told me she didn’t know. I found it and started playing. It hasn’t rained in a week and there’s mud everywhere. Zero grass on the fairways and tee boxes, long grass makes the greens impossibly slow. The layout is the only good thing about the golf course..6 par threes, 6 par fours and 6 par fives. Stay home and play your local municipal course. If you find yourself in Zachary, play Beaver Creek. The greens are fantastic right now.
I know it was holiday weekend but.....
Had to wait on every hole and 3 holes there were 4 groups because of slow play. It took 5 hours to play the round.
Good fairways and good rough
The greens were over watered and very slow, but on good condition. The balls all plugged around the greens. The fairways and rough was in excellent condition. Course has recovered well from floods last year. The upgrades on the clubhouse was excellent. Staff are friendly and professional.
bad greens
For the 2nd week in a row the greens have been grossly overwatered and not mowed . This made the greens horribly slow and the aprons so wet you couldn't walk up.
Coppers Struggles
We understand it's tough managing a golf course, but somebody please do something to help out. The course used to be down right magic, but somebody faltered along the way. The greens & bunkers are bad. There is no need for rough grass since there is this high pompus grass that swallows balls up. The one plus of the course is Hailey & Aron. Both are gorgeous.
Amazing scoring course for all golfers!
Great staff, beautiful grounds, and overall the most fun and most challenging course I’ve played. 10/10
Great Hot Deal
I have played this course a lot over the years and it is a challenging layout and is in pretty good shape. Unique layout with 6 par 4's, 6 par 5's, and 6 par 3's. Only issue is that some of the sand traps need more sand in them.
I booked a Hot Deal for $12 per head and I usually pay $40-$50 per regular price.
Going down hill fast
Condition has deteriorated severely in the last 6-9 months. See below:
- Closed the driving range, so no practice area
- greens were in poor condition and about 5 were aerated and I wasn't told.
- Fairways had weeds growing
- No pro shop
It's off my Baton Rouge rotation for sure.
Greens are coming back
Most fairways in pretty good condition...some greens still suffering from fungus apparently although getting a lot better. I'm sure the very wet weather going back to the big flood last August hit the turf pretty hard. Glad to see the greens making a comeback though! A little more fungicide and TLC will likely do wonders. I don't like the lack of a practice range to warm up but I have always loved the course layout. Well except for #12 hole which usually destroys my back nine score hahaha...the staff is always friendly and the manager is a good guy as well. I usually play at least 1-2 times per month here. Thank you!
Almost unplayable
I've played Copper Mill before and loved the layout. Yesterday I drove an hour and a half to play only to find the course almost unplayable. Tee boxes and fairways were very poor with very little grass. The greens were beyond bad....patchy bits of grass, surrounded by sand....no way to putt. We just picked up once on the green. Very upset to have paid good money and never told about the condition of the course. GolfNow should not promote this course or offer it for play.
I thought that the layout was great with a lot of real good holes. Was disappointed in the greens. They either have a fungus or others very heavy with a weed. Would love to play it again if they get the green issues resolved.
Bad day
I usually really enjoy Copper Mill but this time the course conditions were terrible. Greens were probably the worst I've ever played on. They need to get them fixed ASAP. I'll go back, but it'll be a while first.
Greens were unplayable
I was eager to play Copper Mill, which is an Audubon Trail course. However, the course conditions were well below the Audubon Trail standards. Many or most of the traps lacked sand and were rock hard. The wind made it feel like a links test, but the course was soft around the greens, preventing you from playing the ball low. The greens were the major obstacle. They could not be putted, as they were bumpy, thin or bare and could not provide a consistent roll. I was very disappointed.
