For the weather conditions, we mostly enjoyed the course.
All Level's Challenge
As a 18 handicap, it was a challenge and also, good management required. but when I hit the ball straight to right area. it was a lots of fun. Overall, I like it.
This is a good cours
it was nice afternoon spend with mine friends. Course was in good shape .
eh..ok
The course is more challenging and longer than most of the public courses in the area. I was not really impressed with any 1 hole, as none of them really stood out to me. The front nine had a reasonable pace of play, but the back nine backed up quickly. When I am waiting at a tee box with the group in front of me still waiting to tee off on the same hole, my day becomes less enjoyable by the minute. Im guessing this is due to the large about of tee times this course books, in combination with a lack of rangering (as I dont recall seeing anyone keeping people on pace). I might play again if i were able to get a super cheap rate (sub $20) and the course was wide open. Other wise I will look to somewhere else.
Horrible
If you enjoy 5-6 hour rounds of golf and love playing behind 5somes and even seeing a 6some told me instantly I'd never return to this establishment who seems to focus on lessons and selling merchandise rather than the golf course and it's playability. They'll do anything to get you in the door, grab your money then not give a rip. If you are an avid golfer and have respect for the game then you'll want to avoid this......well you know.
slow, slow , slow
we played a 5 hour 10 minute round beginning before 10am. I can only imagine how slow it was for the later ttimes. We did have a marshal come around once and he indicated that 12 people were waiting on the 2nd tee, so it could have been worse. The course was in avg condition with the greens fairly slow but as severe as they are that was probably a good thing. Doors to the proshop were out of order as was the bathroom. Clearly maintenance is being deferred.
Has some tough holes
Overall this is a challenge. It played a little slow on the back. 9
Slow, bumpy greens, lack of professional courtesy but 5 good closing golf holes
had to fight though what looked to be the biggest tent sale of older merchandise, just to pay a greens fee.. got to check in and was not given any direction to where the range machine is.. I had never played here, so didn't know to go right or left for the range, well I choose left and ran into a chain link fence... so had to go to the other side... hit balls., hit putts.. all good and happy to play with my buddy... we get paired up with another 2some, male/female on their first date who had not played in six months, very nice folks and we are ready to peg it.....then I get chewed on by the starter as I walk to the Black tees...."Normally those tees are closed on the weekend and not sure if you should be back there..." I almost lost it! --- Two things Mr. Starter -- 1) If I am not suppose to be there, tell your staff not to put the black tee markers out --
I paid my money-- I have every right to play them... yes I will keep pace, don't worry bro..I play fast..... 2) Ask me my handicap, I am happy to show you my handicap card and prove my ability, like many courses do...
He was really rude and didn't welcome us... greens were poor, so much so that the lady in our group commented on their lack of speed and bumps... At $42, felt it was overpriced for the conditions of the course.... many better options in the area at that price.
Good Test
I hadn't played Red Tail in 2-3 years until yesterday.
Overall it was a good experience. I had read a few reviews and was concerned with pace of play. We went off right before 7am and I was back in my car and driving away at 11:04. This includes the front 9 where we did get stacked up. The marshals took care of it and we breezed through the back 9.
my tip, don't be long. I hit too many irons long and put myself in real trouble. Also the pin placement is marked at the tee box, not by the flag color. it took me 3 holes to figure that out.
Good course for all skill levels.
Lots of green
Eaven in the middle of a really dry summer the course was green and moist !! Fairways soft greens smoth
Terrific Twilight
Great twilight rates and beautiful scenery late in the day. The staff was wonderful as well! Pace of play was a little slow during twilight, but staff suggested alternate routes onto open holes so that we could make the most of our sunlight! Fun night :)
Jim Johnson
great course need to play here more. the only problem were young players cutting holes and singles in carts and no marshal.
Good Course, Challenging Greens
Bad shots are punishing on this course. The rough is very rough. There are a couple of holes that have drainage issues, 2, 4, and 6. Other than that the course does drain well. Pace of play can be an issue since it is a course that is owned by the Portland Parks and Recreation. The greens at Red Tail are very challenging often with double breaks that you have to read. The bunkers leave something to be desired as they tend to water the greens very heavily and the run off pools in the bunkers. I was in three and each one was like hitting off concrete. I have played this course many many times and will still come back. For the money it is one of the best bargains. The practice facility is great.
Unfriendly and deceiving
So I'm sure playing during the day or early bird is fine, but don't ever try playing twilight. What they don't tell you is that you get put behind their junior league that take 20 minutes to play a hole. Then if you ask if you can skip ahead or go on the back 9 the starter says no and is very defensive. Never had a golf experience like it. We came real close to asking for our money back but decided to stick it out.
Better than before
I'm amazed by how many rounds are played by every caliber of player, that the fairways, bunkers and greens could be in private golf club shape. A credit to the grounds crew. I give it an overall A.
Tough Course
Hole 7 will kick your butt. Hole 11 and 15 are no joke either. Bring your patience and try to refrain from the putter toss. The best course if you like a challenge.
Muddy and Slow - No fun
The course was muddy and almost unplayable in places. I have played the course before, and this was the worse ever. Futhermore, it was slow. The group ahead of us appeared to be new to the game, and were very slow. But the group ahead of them was no better, and even if we convinced the group right ahead to let us by (they had limited English skills) it would not have helped. Not playing again on a weekend. We were to play 18 but ran out of daylight after 9.
Rough Day to be golfing!
The weather did not reach 40* and the wind was howling. Everything was great, exactly what you would expect with the weather as it was. We were 2 and played through a 2-some and 4-some on the front 9. We ended up behind a 5-some (what course lets a 5-some out?) on the last 5 holes and they were not courtious enough to let us through? We suffered an extra 1/2 hour due to the slow play, in awful conditions.
We Keep Coming back!
This course always challenges us. Lots of trees and water. Great if u stay in the fairways! But we keep coming back. The Redtail teaching pros are very good. They use the track man for teaching and for trying out new clubs. No extra charge, just part of the service.
Good condition
Great deal on Golf Now the day my wife and I played...almost no one on the course due to rainy forecast, but only a couple of light, brief showers came through...so it was a quiet, relaxed, walking round. We took our time, and still finished in 3:50.
Considering all the rain last week, the course was soft, but not as wet as I expected. This is one of the few area courses that have not aerated greens in the past week...greens , fairways, and tees were in nice shape, although there are a few greens under repair to their front section. Bunkers were nicely raked and there was no standing water anywhere. This is a pretty course, plenty of open space, with most holes having no homes lining the fairways.
