The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club - South Course

The Reserve Vineyards South Course isn’t just a golf course—it’s a winding puzzle stretched across rolling Oregon farmland, framed by fir trees and carried on the breeze of the Pacific Northwest. Designed by John Fought, it’s a course that doesn’t just reward good swings—it asks for focus, commitment, and a little humility. The fairways rise and fall with purpose, and the greens—fast, firm, and full of character—have a way of getting in your head. And if you're not fully locked in by the time you reach the shared green on holes 3 and 5, don’t be surprised if it feels like you took a wrong turn into another dimension. It’s a design quirk that leaves you both impressed and just slightly disoriented.

This isn’t your typical resort-style layout. It’s a test, and a fair one, with every hole offering its own distinct challenge. The rough is thick, the bunkers are deep, and the slopes around the greens can turn a minor miss into a major recovery mission. I watched someone four-putt from ten feet and simply stare off into the distance like he was reconsidering life choices. But that’s the charm of it—play smart, trust your lines, and the course gives you a shot at glory. It’s tough but never unfair, and always more rewarding than it is punishing.

The rhythm of the routing is a highlight in itself—par 5s that tempt you, par 3s that make you think twice, and doglegs that offer risk and reward in equal measure. One hole might have you launching a perfect drive into a postcard, the next might send you into the trees wondering what went wrong. That’s the balance The Reserve strikes so well—it keeps you engaged, adjusting, and grinning through the uncertainty. It's a thinking player's course that still gives you room to swing freely when the time is right.

If you're anywhere near Portland and you haven’t played this course yet, you're missing one of Oregon's best. The Reserve South is beautiful, challenging, and full of character—built for golfers who appreciate strategy, scenery, and a little unpredictability. Five stars. The course, the conditions, the staff all shine. Great facility.

It is always nice to play at the Vineyards. I played the south Course. Greens where in good shape and I also love the layout. But this time there where a lot of Divots in the Fairway's. For me it is hard to comprehend why people can not put the Divot back where they hit their shot. It would make the playing experience better for all Golfers. As the pace of play was not so fast I used 6 Sand bottles to fill some of the Divots while waiting.

8:06a tee time on a Friday and took us 5 hours! Would have been great if the staff had more of an on course presence to urge groups on.

I visit Portland a few times a year and always have the Reserve on my must golf list. Both courses are always kept in beautiful shape and the staff is always very nice.

Both courses at The Reserve are FANTASTIC!! We played the South today, and as usual, conditions were fantastic. Choosing the correct tees that you play from will definitely impact your experience, as it can play extremely difficult if you're playing from to far back. Pace of play was great for a Sunday; we finished in under 4.5 hours. I highly recommend both courses if you get the opportunity to play here!

I get summertime. Sunday. Holiday. However if you know you're gonna be this booked with families and kids, you spread it out 15 minutes between groups not 10 minutes. We were 15 minutes late at our teatime due to the pace of play in front of us so we didn't tee off for 15 minutes past our teatime then it took us almost 45 minutes to do the first two holes. The course marshal was super nice and apologetic. He grabbed us and a couple other groups and moved us to the north course the private that part of the month so that we could play and said I really apologize guys. I'm gonna see if we can get you guys your nine holes you know credit or something cause you're not gonna get all 18 in today if they had told us that upfront, we would've just paid for nine holes and played nine holes no problem we get to the tea box and Marc who again was super friendly. Said I'm gonna take care of this guys will get you hooked up stop at the pro club on your way at the turn after your nine holes we took 3 1/2 hours to play nine holes when we normally play at a 90 minute pace cause there's three of us and we're young and we walk fast and we shoot in the high 70s low 80s. We got to pro shop & it was closed by 5mins! Spoke to Connor who was in charge he agreed and was super helpful took my info said they would call me today (next day) no one called nothing. Paid $$$ barely got 9 holes played in over 3 1/2 hours! I expect that from Compton Community not The Rerseve!

Course condition and pace of play were excellent. The greens were is super condition and rolled nicely. My play was not very good, but I did enjoy the course and hope to revisit when things go more my way.
