Belle Terre Country Club
About
Belle Terre Country Club in La Place was carefully carved from the beautiful swamps of southeast Louisiana. The name, translated from French, means "beautiful land," a title that the terrain certainly lives up to. Pete Dye designed the golf course, utilizing the existing water features and mature trees to craft a layout that is both challenging and scenic. The back tees stretch to 6,849 yards, which will challenge the seasoned player while the forward tees make the course accessible for beginners. Water comes into play on 10 holes and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Belle Terre Country Club boasts a nice mix of holes that will test a variety of different skills, from long holes where you can grip it and rip it to short, tight holes that demand accuracy.

The hole was damaged an inch around the entire hole. This wasn’t the worst one but just one that I took a picture of after being disgusted. Photo submitted by u000004947912 on 06/13/2021

A long way to go
I just moved to LaPlace so I say this with all trepidation, I really wanted Belle Terre to be ready and a great place to go.
From the very start I walked into the pro-shop and there was no one there. I called out and an old guy came out of the office, he was rude and condescending, acted as if I was privileged to play his course. I was told by many that the management of the course was the worst in the region, but I was not expecting something this bad. I do not blame the guy minding the store, it obviously comes from the people making the decisions.
I inquired about membership. $325 for full membership, $175 for “select” membership where you pay $20 cart fee or track fee if you have your own cart and must pay for range balls (which is not open). After being down for two years, I was expecting a low introductory membership of $125/150 to entice new membership but what they are asking for is a membership twice what this facility is worth.
Membership at this price would be appropriate for a very nice facility like Carter Plantation (single $199 family $239), Cypress Lakes or Chateau where there are scores of members, a social scene where you can have drinks with friends or bring your wife to dinner, even have a pool or tennis courts for the family. No, this is a goat ranch with terrible management, awful service, no amenities and a course that really needs a lot of work.
The best thing is the carts, they are brand new! The range is closed, apparently the net is down, they either cannot afford to replace it or too lazy. (is there any other reason?)
While I am here, they had two full years to make some major improvements and fix everything that was wrong. The management miserably failed.
The greens are green, I say that because that is the best thing you can say about them. I was excited when I walked on #1 because it is in good shape, hard and dry but not bad. (according to the guy I was playing with it is much smaller than it used to be but still not bad) the next 17 holes were not good at all. YES, they are new and still growing in (after 2 years of work) and they need to be cut a little lower but I understand they need to be kept long to establish the root system etc.
The problem I have on all the remaining 17 greens is that they are like patchwork quilts. There are so many patches, areas of differing variances of paspalum grass and weeds that I cannot see where this will “grow in”. Regular “hacker” golfers may not see or understand but the graine of the grass changes so much, putts are not at all predictable. The ball changes directions up to 3-4 times on a 20’ put because of the different variances and age of the grass.
The fairways are dry cut weeds, there is a little grass on 15 but all the rest are nothing but cut down weeds. It is impossible to play the ball down because of so many dead spots.
Cart paths are simply terrible, don’t get the carts up to full speed of 10 mph because you will have golf clubs flying!
There is a new walking bridge to the 4th green that looks like it was built by the high school shop class.
AND they removed two VERY strategic bunkers, on 6 and on 10, if not more.
I came in after the round, about 5:30 and there was no one there to serve a drink or food. I did look at the menu, it was appropriate for a real golf club that had a clubhouse full of members and a full wait staff to take care of you.
This is a Pete Dye design! The layout is outstanding even though you can see it has been severely altered (shall I say bastardized) buy removing fairway and green side bunkers, taking out hazards such as pampas grass and changing the greens.
After being down for 2 years, Belle Terre could have had a stellar course if only they took some time and investment to assure the facility was ready for play before opening.
Good luck to them but once the word gets out, I wonder if there will be more than 10-15 tee times taken a day on the weekend.
Hard
Let me say this course is coming back from being closed a very long time after a hurricane so you should take that into consideration with my review.
That being said, HARD is the overall word for this course.
Not hard as I in course layout and play but as in the ground.
From tee to green the course was rock hard.
We broke tees trying to get them in the ground.
One of my guys cuts his finger pretty good when his tee split trying to push it in the ground.
We started pouring water in the spot we want to place the tee.
I hit several drives that ran for days in the fairway.
The greens were hard as well and extremely slow.
The greens were all different cuts all over and none rolled the same.
Some traps had light sand others had medium and some had heavy sand.
Will wait until next year to play again to see if it has improved.
I paid $46 on GolfNow.
They were charging $66 for others.
No way is this course in its current condition work $66.
Right now the most I would pay is $35.
I played bad and shot 80 because I had to change my swing to play the hard fairways.
I usually have a steep angle of attack but my should was getting too many hard impacts so I changed it to the swing I had to use when I lived in North Texas playing on hard pan and started to play better.
We appreciate your review and understand your concerns regarding the condition of the course after it was reopened following a hurricane. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced due to the hard ground, broken tees, and uneven greens. We take your feedback seriously and will strive to make improvements for next year. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.
Coming out of renovation with plenty to fix
Course has been closed for 8 months. Greens and fringe appear to have been replaced but you can still see the sod squares. Greens were furry and had spots needing top dress. Very bumpy in places. Bunkers all had varying levels of sand from too soft to very compacted. Tee boxes were rock hard with a hammer needed to get some tees in the ground. Pins haven’t been moved in days as most were stuck in the cup. For being closed so long, the details should have been addressed. They knock those out and they have an edge in Nola golf.
We apologize for the inconvenience and the condition of the course. We appreciate your feedback and will take your comments into consideration for future improvements. Thank you for your review.

Belle Terre is back after a long break!
Play Friday morning the 2nd day the course has opened up after being down from the 2021 storm. The range wasn't open, but the pro-shop was fully stocked. The putting greens also aren't 100% ready but that's not a big deal. The course was in good shape and the greens were 95% awesome in my opinion. There was cart path work being performed, but it should be completed within a month. A few bunkers need some work, but the course is overall in good shape and ready to take back some golfers. It's a somewhat challenging course from the Blues.
Thanks so much for your wonderful review, Blacmacc. We are thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your time with us. Please visit again soon. Thanks for choosing Belle Terre Country Club!

Improving
Looking forward to the new greens. Grass maintenance is getting better, but you will be able to find your ball. course was dry so hopefully fairways and roughs will be cut to size. Overall it was a good experience .

Unplayable
Course not playable. Rough 12-18 inches. Fairways 4-8 inches in most areas. Greens sprayed and dead, I believe they are about to replant. You will loose a dozen balls in the fairway. I understand the rain and maintenance but the course should be closed until resolved. I didn’t expect these conditions.
This was my first time playing at Belle Terre. We have had lots of rain but the tee boxes, fairways and rough were ridiculously over grown. The course was dry enough to cut majority of the places, yet we only saw one person cutting grass all day. The pro shop had no water, only Powerade and beer. The water in the coolers were hot and seemed to not have been changed in days. On three holes, you could not see the markers on the tee boxes. I lost 4 balls hit in the middle of the fairways. I played another course just yesterday and the grass was no where near as bad, definitely not worth $40 and the price of lost balls.
We're sorry to learn your first time playing at Belle Terre was not was you expected. Other courses in the area underwent a large amount of rain as well, so we appreciate your patience and hope you'll give us another shot once we open back up.
Poorest conditions possible
It’s official, they’ve given up, course was mostly dry and they haven’t cut the grass in what looks like ages… Stay away from this place.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve and are working diligently to improve the course. Thank you for playing and we hope to see you again soon.
Com on man
We asked how the greens were before booking our round and were told "not to bad" LOL. There Bad and that's being nice.. Just be honest and up front with people. We know they will get better eventually. But blatantly lying is what makes people not want to return.
Thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to hear your experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for choosing Belle Terre Country Club.
Not acceptable
Course was in horrible condition
Pins haven’t been moved in I can’t tell you how long
Had a bunch of rain 2 weeks ago and doesn’t look like it’s been watered since.

Terrible course condition
Greens were completely sanded over, Fairways were not maintained and was like always playing out the rough.
Do Not Play Here
DO NOT PLAY THIS GOLF COURSE.
Went to check in and we asked the kid in the pro shop how the course was and he told us it was good but they had just sanded the greens.
I have been playing golf over 50 years and have never played a course in such poor shape. This course should not even have been open.
the tee boxes were a joke and most of the fairways had not been cut in weeks. They should be charging half of the 40 dollars we paid.
Really to bad as this was once a very nice course.
when you lose balls that are in the middle of the fairway then you have a problem. will never go back and all of our foursome agree it was bad.
Wet
More of a heads up than a poor review. I've played this course many times, and while it's had it's ups and downs through the years, I still return to the swampy layout. Got to the course only to find out they'd sanded the greens. Through the sand you could see the greens were maybe a bit roasted. In the clubhouse, they were very apologetic, saying they were running a discounted rate because of the sand, which they in the clubhouse didn't know before they got to the course in the morning.
But the bigger issue was the wet. The course really does sit in a swamp and between an excess of rain and winds pushing water into the area of the course, it's been mostly underwater for days. They weren't even open for the majority of the week. They had tractors out trying to cut some areas, but the course was completely soaked and really should have remained closed between the sand and the wetness.
They were kind enough to give us a rain check - we only played 3 holes and gave up because it was rough - not so much the sand, but the fairways weren't cut and there was still standing water on the course. And it didn't rain all week.
Nice folks, still a good course. Just not right now.
Shane
Course was extremely wet from recent heavy rain and flooding. Because course has been wet, they haven’t been able to cut tee boxes or fairways. The course can’t control Mother Nature. Honestly, the course should have been closed.
On another note, recently I have booked tee times through a couple different sites. When a course sands or punches the greens, this should be noted on the site prior to booking reservation or arriving at course.
