Rough needs to be cut…
Rough is very high and certainly slows up play by those looking for balls. Also could use better signage for distance.. There is no Wifi on the course so my golf application did not work..
Not bad but room for improvement
First time playing here today - liked the layout a lot and thought the course was in good shape except many of the bunkers on the course were really poor - at least 1 was ground-under-repair and many others had little sand in them - sad to see this neglect when paying $90 for the round. Outside of this and the greens being a little slower than ideal, I thought the course was in good shape. Tees and fairways were very good.
The only other complaint is the lack of sprinklers and/or yardage markers in the course - very tough to get yardages from fairways, esp on back 9.
I'd play here again if the bunkers were better - just bring your GPS device.
There are better courses in the area for better price
No water out on a 90 degree day, if you like when a foursome doesn’t let you pass them because they tee off and drive away quickly as your pulling up to the tee box between hole 3-7 while the group in front of them is no where to be seen, Marshall’s I don’t think control the pace of play here at all didn’t see one once except for teeing off and leaving the course sitting down, staff was friendly course layout is nice but for 20 dollars less you can get better and all around play. This course has gone down hill in 5 years
Challenging Course
Reston National is a challenging course. Course conditions were very good, except that the greens have not grown in yet leaving bumpy greens on certain holes. The fairways were manicured close and the rough was challenging to negotiate. The course layout is scenic. Overall, I would recommend this course to other fellow players.
Not as nice an experience as it used to be
I've been coming here 3-4-5 times a season and will be looking for a new place to play. Course continues to be pleasing to my eye and in good condition. But the range is now irons-only and 1/2 the bays were reserved for instruction - kids' clinic - but no one was there. Also the GAS cart just died on the 17th hole and, when I was checking in, I overheard that another cart had died on the 3rd hole. Wasn't out of gas,, just dead. How's that happen??? Plus, a minor point, they remodeled the snack bar but there is no water fountain to refill a bottle if water. Felt like they were forcing to buy a bottle of water.
Just didn't feel top notch.
The course is in very good shape for early in the season. The greens were just cut for the first time, aerated about 2 weeks prior, with some sand visible. The greens were inconsistent, but will round into shape nicely. Pace of play was an issue. I played on a Friday afternoon, and the course was as busy as a Saturday. A course Marshall would have helped push groups along. I waited on every tee box, and all approaches, but this is fairly typical for this course.
We played the day after they had aerated the greens, so we recieved around a 20% discount off of regular weekend fees. This price point made the shortcominngs of the course a bit more bearable. The sand traps were mostly unplayable and everyone in my group took relief from the ones that were basically rock gardens. The greens were pretty bumpy and hard to judge because of aformentioned aeration. I did like the layout of the course though, with the conditions a bit better I am sure it would be much more fun to play. My biggest gripe is that there was basically no food at the clubhouse, all they had were chips and crackers, no hot food whatsoever. I should have eaten before playing because I had to settle for a bag of chips for lunch...
The course only had 9 holes open and they where irrigating the greens
This was one of my worst experiences every playing the game if I would have known that the course was under repair and only had 9 holes I would have never played!
Fix the sand traps
First time I played Reston National and played with 2 regulars. Don't hit it in the sand traps. Many are unplayable and from the two I played with this is an ongoing problem. The club just isn't maintaining many traps.
Otherwise the course is very much worth playing.
Course renovations/maintenance needed to justify cost
Reston National has a good layout but unfortunately although the greens are in decent but bumpy shape for end of December golf, too many essential green-side and fairway bunkers are just dirt and clay. Easy to say just ignore them but they are an essential part of course design.
Pace was fine, clubhouse renovation is nice, and staff were friendly enough.
Fairways are in decent shape but not nearly in the level of shape of Twin Lakes courses (both) and the cart paths are in terrible shape (roots along with old carts creating a ridiculous bumpy ride).
The rough is sparse and inconsistent and the worst I've seen in the area.
Bottom Line: This is a very poor value for the money - go play Twin Lakes or even Herndon Centennial with far better conditions at much less $.
Poor Value
I just have to be honest that this course isn’t worth the greens fees. No practice balls. No tees on range mats. Carts barely move and feel unreliable. Greens are covered in ball marks. Fairways extremely soft. Just have to be honest that for $20 more I can get a lot better of a course experience.
Judge
Judge was so rude and mean.
We won't play this club again.
