The Ranch course at Tonto Verde Golf Club is the newer one, this golf course designed exclusively by Gary Panks, who laid it out over 6,988 yards, upon which it has played host to several golf events at the professional and amateur level since it opened in 2002.

The Ranch golf course at the Tonto Verde Golf Club serves power golfers due to the distance, though it will certainly test those who golf a good short, thanks to big greens that are bunkered well and slope, too.

The Tonto Verde Golf Club offers stay-and-play packages for those who don't want to lodge themselves too far from the Peaks and Rancho golf courses. Pets are generally welcome, and the minimum stay is only three nights.

Enjoyed the course

Friend and I golfed Ranch Course, got away little after 1pm, finished before dark saw hardly anyone else, and really had a nice time.
Staff was very friendly, clubhouse very good, and the food excellent.
Course wonderful condition, greens fast, but not as fast as Las Sentas.

Hidden gem.

Beautiful course with views of the Four Peaks (with snow) throughout. Course was in great shape, greens were soft but fast. Landscaping was well kept. Cart girl come around only once, no big deal for me, and the pace was "up to you". During the round nobody else was on the course. It's a drive from the west valley, but I'd definately go again, you won't be disappointed

This just became my favorite course in Arizona!

Was fantastic, overseeded rough that was club grabbing, wrist straining, thick. Had a wonderful pace of play. Fantastic views!

Great course. Great value. Impeccable condition. Highly Recommended.

During this time of year, as one would expect, golfing in Arizona can become a very expensive habit. While it may be considered a weak sister to its relative down the road, Vista Verde, the Ranch track at Tonto Verde is a great golf course for a great price. I would imagine Tonto Verde's other offering, the Peaks course, is just as good albeit a bit pricier.

The Ranch was in excellent shape and has matured nicely from the overseed in October. The course is very straightforward; in fact, I cannot recall a single blind shot. Fairways were lush and the tee boxes were impeccable. The greens were in excellent shape and rolled fast but true. As others have noted, the fairways are wide and very forgiving for the higher handicap golfer. But don't be fooled: Strategically placed bunkers can and will wreak havoc on errant shots. At 7,000 yards from the tips, the course offers a wide variety of long and short par 4s and par 3s and plays for the most part as target golf.

The service at Tonto Verde was very personable and attentive. As with most resort courses, the staff does all the work, from placing your bag in the desired cart to cleaning up your clubs after the round. The clubhouse is very nice and the locker rooms are well kept and clean. Rangers do show up from time to time to chart the pace of play.

Verdict: Go and play the Ranch course at Tonto Verde.

A Great Golf Experience

We were treated like members, shown courtesy and kept informed about the facility, water & ice, first tee and local rules. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

The Ranch is our favorite but there's nothing wrong with the Peaks either!

We love Tonto Verde and have been coming here for 12 years now. We usually golf twilight so the value is especially good. Staff is very accomodating, helpful, and friendly. Vista Verde is very interesting but no amenities although that's not a factor for us. All courses are very well kept and worth the money and the drive. Lovely scenery on all 3.

User friendly course. Great shape. Great golf experience. Well worth the drive!

Sometimes when hyped, things just don;t live up to expectations but this was not the case here! First off, the drive towards the course was spectacular which puts you in a good mood. The grounds around the club and the practice facilties are beautiful. The Peaks course was well laid out and while it maybe looked easy turned out to be a good test of golf. Greens were fabulous and rolled true. Note that the houses around the course are unobtrusive, far less than most other courses. Didn't have time to enjoy the clubhouse but certainly looks to be a fine place.. Maybe because I scored well I'm a big fan of the course and immediately booked a round at the Ranch course to try it next. Highly recommend.

A lovely course, beautifully maintained, but difficulties with staff and amenities.

This is a lovely layout, beautifully maintained, with excellent practice facilities. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience except for two major problems. (1) Have you ever played a top-level course with no food/drink of any kind available at the turn? This was the case when we played; when we thought the snack bar must be hidden somewhere we were informed that no dining facilities were available that day - but that the cart girl would be around on the back nine, She never appeared. So the four of us played for 4 3/4 hours with nothing but water. And still no place for a drink when we finished. (2) An aggressive marshal spoiled the day, coming up to our foursome on the 16th green (just before I was to stroke a 7-foot birdie putt) to tell us that although there were only two holes to go that we would have to 'pick up the pace'. This was bizarre and silly. We let a twosome play through on the 12th. Other than that, no one was behind us until another twosome reached the tee on the 15th. When we said that we could hardly play faster than the twosome behind us the marshal sneered that the course was 'stacking up' behind us. Of course this made no sense, We were planning to go into the pro shop and buy some souvenirs as- mementos of a lovely day (I birdied 18 to shoot even par) but this unpleasant confrontation soured the entire experience and we have no wish to remember it now.

Great course and very peaceful

This course has been a real discovery. As a semi-private course, it has a range, chipping and putting green areas that are top notch. The staff is friendly and the facilities are pristine. The layout is great and offers a good challenge overall.

Great course. A few muddy spots due to excessive water needed to grow new grass.

Great facilities. We would come back again assuming we can afford it. Want to play the Ranch Course too.

Nice course

Excellent condition, members seemed a little perturbed that a non-member was on the course. One annoying thing is that second hole was closed, didn't really want to play just 17 holes.

Immaculate tee boxes best played in several courses. Fairways and greens perfect

Played the ranch course and would definitely play again. Not much water in play but strategically placed sand traps keep the course both visually appealing and a good challenge for all players

Great Experience

Recently re-seeded (caused a bit of an issue as I with my elderly Father-in-law, and it was cart-path only).
However: Course was in great shape! Challenging, yet fair. Played in 3 1/2 hours, on a Wed morning. Looking to go again!

A pleasure, great views, true greens, challenging yet fair course

Just coming off overseeding, the greens were understandably slow - as opposed to Tonto Verde's usual 10-11 stimpmeter greens. They do not overseed the rough on this course, allowing the Bermuda to go dormant. That process is just beginning, so most of the rough was still green, but those unfamiliar with this practice may at first question the big difference in appearance between fairway and rough. Soft, lush fairways meant little roll, so this put a premium on club selection. Friendly and efficient pro shop staff and on-course ranger. All in all, a challenging and very enjoyable round. The GolfNow price was a smokin' deal compared to courses of similar quality around the valley.

Best value of the summer.

Tonto Verde's two courses are extremely well kept. During the summer they are open to the public, and only one course is in use each week, with tee times ending around midday. This allows time for recovery, adequate watering to keep the grass healthy in the summer sun, and thorough maintenance. Both courses offer nice, challenging layouts. The greens are receptive to approach shots yet quick and smooth. There is nowhere this nice to play in the East Valley that won't cost twice the fee. Good practice areas, included in the fees. Staff are helpful and friendly. Usually no cart service, and not much available in the way of quick, simple food. But Tonto Verde is very much about the GOLF. Come with that in mind, and you won't be disappointed.
