Makray Memorial Golf Club
About
Makray Memorial Golf Club (formerly known as Thunderbird Country Club) is a public course that has been open since 1962. To commemorate 40 years of great golf, the course was remodeled and revamped in 2002. The renovations improved its playability and also made it more challenging. The championship-caliber layout features strategically placed bunkers, including some Scottish-style sod-faced ones, and tricky water hazards on several holes. The hilly terrain offers both challenging elevation changes and scenic views. The golf course finishes with a long par 5 that plays across a canyon of berms to a narrow fairway. Further accuracy is needed to reach the well guarded green surrounded by high berms, a pot bunker to the left, and a deep, steep bunker to the right. In addition to the course, Makray Memorial G.C. boasts an extensive practice facility with 1 1/2 acres of grass teeing ground, two putting greens, and a short-game area.

Golfer Reviews
CC feel
Love playing here, has such an elevated feel! Outstanding clubhouse, course design is fair (not quirky) but the speed and slope of the greens are something else! Love the challenge and focused required.
Only complaint may be the range was chewed up but it is late season.
Could play it every day!
Great course
This was our first time here and we’re looking forward to going back. The greens were just aerated with lots of sand but they still were quick and rolled well. It’s a beautiful track with lots of elevation changes that we didn’t expect. It’s very challenging but a great course. Play from the right years for your game because it plays very long. Pace of play was slow - 4 1/2 hours because of walkers a few groups ahead of us.
Great course. VERY wet after rain but still great
Really loved the course. Had some issues with slow play in front of us and rangers did nothing other than shrug their shoulders. Somehow they finally just left the course after 14.
Greens were very fast even though they were wet. Bunkers could use some softer sand. Really enjoyed this course. Will be back again!
Great shape
Had a great round last week. Pace was only ok but had a two join us and moved well enough from there.
Greens and fairways in great shape. As always, greens are lighting quick but rolled true.
Fairways, okay, green is not good. It's a lot of damage in the green
Go for the golf but don’t stick around.
Nice layout and very challenging greens.
However
The GPS in our cart did not work.
No biggie but for $80.00 a round they should work
Staff was less than friendly.
Sat at our table for 10 minutes before I had to get up and ask the hostess if there were any servers working that afternoon.
Saw her then tell the server who had been talking to a table of 1 for the whole time.
After the hostess told the server she shrugged her shoulders as if to say “not another table”
Sorry for rambling, let’s just say we left and went to Brandt’s for much better service and EXCELLENT BURGERS!!!
Tough Course but good conditions
Booked through GolfNow and got a better price via Hot Deal and Promo code. Course in good condition. Was not too crowded so pace of play was good.
