About
Makray Memorial Golf Club (formerly known as Thunderbird Country Club) is a public course that has been open since 1962. To commemorate 40 years of great golf, the course was remodeled and revamped in 2002. The renovations improved its playability and also made it more challenging. The championship-caliber layout features strategically placed bunkers, including some Scottish-style sod-faced ones, and tricky water hazards on several holes. The hilly terrain offers both challenging elevation changes and scenic views. The golf course finishes with a long par 5 that plays across a canyon of berms to a narrow fairway. Further accuracy is needed to reach the well guarded green surrounded by high berms, a pot bunker to the left, and a deep, steep bunker to the right. In addition to the course, Makray Memorial G.C. boasts an extensive practice facility with 1 1/2 acres of grass teeing ground, two putting greens, and a short-game area.

Not enough staff and short staff are never happy. Course was a real treat can't wait to play again.
Challenging course
Some long difficult par 4's that require accuracy. The greens were very fast and most greens had a lot of slope to them. This course will test your shipping and putting.

Not up to mid year standards! Bunkers weren't raked before opening!!
I've always liked playing this course, but it shouldn't have opened without raking the bunkers!!
2nd Day Open For The Season
For only their second day of the year being open, the course was in great shape. There was some snow in the rough on some holes, and some very wet spots, but that was certainly to be expected. I look forward to coming back when the grass is actually green. Cant beat $27 for 9 with a cart on a course like this, either.
Course is in great shape for early season
This was my first time playing at Makray. Obviously, a customer is paying a premium rate to play here. Considering the very cold Spring and torrential rain last week, the course is in optimal condition. I'll add it on my list
Nice Course Horrible Shape
I thought there were several holes on this course that were really well defined and great holes but generaly they left a lot to be desired. The course was in terrible shape both fairways and greens. The one thing I can say is that the greens were fast. In some ways that could have been related to how much undulation they had.
nice place but do not think it is worth the full price
they course is in good condition as are the greens but if it was not for the hot time i do not think it is worth full price i would like pay more the 65 for the course.

Nice layout, good amenities, course was in nice shape despite the drought. Clubhouse is excellent
It's a well run golf course
Challenging course with great training facilities. Real turf and well-maintained driving range. Great clubhouse, bar & restaurant are added bonuses
Challenging layout, yardage used extremely well.
This is a great looking golf course. It isn't too long, but the yardage is used extremely well with a couple well guarded reachable par 4's. The topography is interesting, mixing it up with rolling hills. Not something you usually see in Illinois. The course's greatest attribute has got to be the greens. They are very receptive, but incredibly fast. I heard a staff member say they were an 11 on the stimp meter. You also are forced to carry most of the greens, there aren't many opportunities to run it up. My Dad and I enjoyed the course and then enjoyed a couple of pints in its beautiful clubhouse after the round!
Play it
Loved the layout of the course. It was a challenge with most shots and thats why I loved the course. The course was in great shape and the greens rolled true with each putt. Basically, the course is not easy and should be played by players looking for a challenge to the eye.
