Makray Memorial Golf Club
About
Makray Memorial Golf Club (formerly known as Thunderbird Country Club) is a public course that has been open since 1962. To commemorate 40 years of great golf, the course was remodeled and revamped in 2002. The renovations improved its playability and also made it more challenging. The championship-caliber layout features strategically placed bunkers, including some Scottish-style sod-faced ones, and tricky water hazards on several holes. The hilly terrain offers both challenging elevation changes and scenic views. The golf course finishes with a long par 5 that plays across a canyon of berms to a narrow fairway. Further accuracy is needed to reach the well guarded green surrounded by high berms, a pot bunker to the left, and a deep, steep bunker to the right. In addition to the course, Makray Memorial G.C. boasts an extensive practice facility with 1 1/2 acres of grass teeing ground, two putting greens, and a short-game area.

Disappointing
A decent course normally, but the greens are in horrendous condition and it really makes it almost unplayable. Huge dead spots on every green. I don’t understand how they can still charge north of $100 for rounds given the shape the greens are in.
Course is in rough shape
I’ve played here many times over the years. This is the worst shape the course has been since it was Thunderbird. The greens were riddled with old ball marks and many of them you had to putt over dirt patches. Many of the sand traps were neglected and was almost like playing off of concrete. Really a shame to see this course in such bad shape. They have one of the best clubhouses in the area.
Outstanding Course
Started us off on 10 this morning, played in 3-1/2 hours. Course in great shape, only exception was a couple of the greens were a tad rough but they putted true. /second time we played here this year, challenging and fair,
Course was backed up and there were no rangers moving golfers along. We stopped after 9 holes because pace of play was so slow. Course was pretty beat up as well. Very disappointed.
Usual fast greens torn to shreds
I want to start off by saying I've played this course a dozen times. It's typically challenging strictly based off of the greens. They are notorious in the area for being incredibly fast. To my surprise there was not one green at least on the front 9 that was not completely destroyed. I'm not even talking divots not being fixed, scrapes and cuts everywhere. Made it almost impossible to hit a solid put, because your ball would bounce the entire way.
pace of play from the start was terrible, off the tee and on the fairway, group in front also took extreme time on the greens
Nice public course with borderline country club feel
I’m more inclined to give it 4.5 stars (not an option). The greens are getting some burned out areas but doesn’t really impact roll. Some holes require more shot placement. Thought it was priced a little high.
Course in great condition
Forgot how tough some of the holes are ! Will back be back next for an another round !

Great layout and tough course . But the greens are very fast but are so beat up allready . Looked like greens in September. Lots of brown spots and beat up and should not be for the price they are asking .
The staff is dismissive about the shape of the greens. The excuse is always the weather. However, I play many courses in the area and other course conditions are just fine. Thank you It appears that the hefty wedding revenues have redirected management’s focus. Even the waterfall off of the 9th tee has turned to weeds .very disappointing to see this gem fall into disrepair
