Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club
About
Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club offers the traditional links course reminiscent of those found in the British Isles, situated amidst Virginia's horse country. The club gets its name from the land's former use, a raspberry field. The scenic terrain overlooks to Catoctin Mountains and there are still a few raspberry bushes dotting the course. By far the layout's most formidable challenges come from the deep, stacked pot bunkers that make it truly feel like a classic Scottish golf course. There are also water hazards on a few holes. The course's signature is the par-4 third hole, which is long but plays downhill all the way. The 10th hole, another par 4, is one of the toughest. The landing area is generous off the tee but there is a creek and pond to the left and fairway bunkers on the right.

Excellent course!
Great staff and excellent course. Had great time and would play again.
A DMV Staple
I have been playing Raspberry Falls off and on since 1999 (back when there were ZERO houses on the property) and have watched the course mature and evolve (sorry, no more beautiful stacked sod bunkers) over time. The course seems to be in a place now where it is what it is. Meaning, it's a beautiful course with solid bones. Equally playable for skilled players and not-so-skilled weekend hackers. Plenty of tee boxes allow you to find a course length that suits your handicap. Not many flat lies to be found in the fairway will test your ball striking ability.
The day we played was a day after a day of rain. So, the course was partially cart path only, which is tough since the paths are not super close to the fairways. Also, lots of mud on the ball and not a lot of roll. For the most part all areas from tee to green were in good shape for later in the season with some exceptions. While we didn't pay the full price of $105, you would expect fewer of these ground under repair areas.
Overall, the course is highly enjoyable with a lot of doglegs to the right, a few forced carries, rolling fairways, and plenty of bunkers. While meant to have a Scottish flavor, it's just imitation at this point. It's a course that at its peak was a jewel of NoVA golf and immaculately maintained when the money was flowing like water. Some of that luster has been diminished after the financial crisis made the inflated mansion values plummet back to Earth, but the course has rebounded nicely and remains a great track. Especially if you can get a decently discounted rate.
challenging course - great day
Our foursome had a great day on this challenging and beautiful course. It was the first time for myself and two others in our group and we will know the course set up better the next time. The course was in good shape, but don't get into the knee high rough - impossible to find a stray ball. The fairways, greens, short rough and bunkers were all in good shape although we have had limited rain recently.
Golf staff to the rescue
I made my tee time thru Golfnow and when I arrived from NJ the course had no record of it. The Pro Shop staff didn't blink an eye. I showed them my confirmation email and they assured me I would get out even though the course was packed. 25 minutes later the starter sent my wife and I out with another twosome and we had a great day! The Starter was very friendly and accommodating.
Great Course
Raspberry Falls is my favorite public course in the area. Great challenging course with beautiful views. Forgiving fairways makes this a fun track. Staff and facilities are great too!
Raspberry Falls
The course was in great shape except the greens had been airiated earlier in the week. Still seemed to be in fairly good condition.
Probably bad timing
Probably just bad timing for me... The greens were just arirated and the fairways were pretty beat up in some spots. I loved the layout and shot making chances. You must stay in play in order to score, probably lost 4-5 balls because of super thick rough, which meant lost strokes. I would like to play the same course at the same price in late September.
Course will be in better condition when the greens heal.
Fairways were great. The greens had been aerated and we're bumpy, pace of play was 5 hours and 20 minutes for 18 holes. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly it was cart path only for the first 9 holes due to all the rain the night before. Back 9 went faster since we could drive carts on course. Was a great day of golf.
Raspberry Falls 8/14
Overall and excellent experience. However, we encountered several holes where the sprinklers were running and we had to locate grounds crew to turn them off.
Great Layout
This was our first time playing the course. Fantastic layout every hole different look. greens were in good shape for aug. weather.staff was great and very helpful for first timers.
Great day!
We had a great time on a great course. We were booked as a twosome and they put us with another guy. Except for a single in front of us, we were the first tee time and, with foursomes behind us, we quickly got to a point where it was as if we owned the golf course. It was an absolutely beautiful day. The course was in great shape. Challenging but fair. Just don't hit it in the deep rough! Greens were rolling pretty fast, and they're tricky. I was disappointed that some player don't fix their ball marks.
John and sons
It was a great experience, I have always loved playing this course even when I was a starter at one of its sister golf courses
Well maintained golf course
Played first time and it was a beautiful course. From tee box to green was well maintained. Also, greens were really fast.
Great Course, In OK Shape, With Snooty Marshall
You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover; however, that's what how I felt while I was being address by the Marshall. Maybe he was stressed due to an amateur teenager tournament going on, maybe he was judging my group by our collective age. Regardless, his behavior was demeaning and unprofessional, starting the round off in a bad light. Once we made it out to the course, the Marshall wasn't doing a good enough job in moving the groups along, resulting in lots of waiting. There are several holes which are cart path only due to the lack of rain, so this added time as well. Overall a beautiful course I will def. play again, however this one Marshall needs an attitude adjustment; or maybe he was having an off day...
Fair, playable course
typical of Gary Player designs, this course is an enjoyable, fair course. There's enough challenge to keep you on your toes, but it does not beat you up.
Another wonderful experience at Raspberry Falls
Only play their once or twice a year. Always a treat.
Lovely golf and facility
We had a wonderful experience at Raspberry Falls. Rental clubs were good, course was nice and wide and well designed, playable for beginners and challenging enough for seasoned golfers. Main problem was the flies. They said there were none the day before but I suggest you bring bug spray just in case.
Loved it
Wanted to play Raspberry Falls for a long time; finally did. It didn't disappoint. Challenging but fair. Many memorable holes. Highly recommend.
