Golfer Reviews
Great course for the Money
Great value for the money. Course was in great shape. Some of the course staff are unfriendly but does not effect the overall experience. Couse could also up grade the club house. However, for a regional park great place to paly.
Rough ht to long
Thev rough needed to cut. It was close to angel deep. Good for the US Open, not for average golfers
Cool course. Wysiwyg
Greens were aireated a month ago and the sand and small holes are finally going away. I can't wait for the greens to get rolled to see if they roll true.
It's close and moderately priced so I have gone back. The rough was really thick, but I believe that's due to rain and time of year
Nice Course
Algonkian Golf Course is a challenging design in a beautiful setting. The staff is always friendly there. After a week with plenty of rain, the greens and fairways were in good shape, and the beautiful weather made for an enjoyable day. The deer, birds and even a fox were enjoying the course too.
Wait to play this one
Swampy and not yet in condition. The greenskeeper moved most of the white tees back. Fairways not good (grass way too tall). Give it a month or two before playing
Quick Round
Quick round, played the day after a few days of rain. Course was a little wet and sloppy. But pace of play was good. Course condition was good for winter.
Great value
Great value for the caliber of the course and condition. Greens and fairways in great shape, bunkers could use a little work. Very little elevation change but overall a very very lovely course and round. Reasonable prices in the pro shop and restaurant.
Didn't tell you it was cart path only when booking
The course was fine. It was fair to somewhat easy. The only negative thing was it was cart path only and I couldn't figure out why as we haven't received rain in this area in a long time. They should tell you in advance bc there is a lot of walking.
A couple of really pretty holes. Sharing the course with a ton of deer who are quite used to people
Great Day to Play All Day
Course is in good shape for the traffic it gets. Greens getting better since being airiated two weeks ago. Walked 36 holes in 8.5 hours.
A pleasent course
I played Rasperry and Brambleton a few days earlier. I was shocked at Rasperry, disappointed at Brambleton about the
condition of the courses. Algokian was in an impressive shape. Hail to maintenance...
A slow some in front of us took the tempo out of the game. But that's another story.....
Beautiful location and very rustic
Fairways were fine but the greens were recently aerated which made every single chipping shot stop with a thud and a plume of sand kick up behind it. Forget about trying to putt with any reasonable accuracy, the ball would roll wildly as it bumped into all the aeration pits on the green...probably added 9 or more strokes to my card ....
Average.
Went when course just completed aeration, so my review isn't that good. Wouldve like to known that this procedure was completed. Would have chosen a different course. Course is average. Was getting excited on the way into the course, but found out the conditions of the course.. Disappointed
Challenging Course!
Course is always fun and challenges you on each hole.
Great Value!
A nice course nestled in Sterling away from the commotion of NoVa life! We teed off around 415 and we absolutely blazed through the round in 3 hours and some change...we were taking our time on most every shot, and just enjoying a nice evening round of golf. The course was in really good shape, and played pretty tough even from the whites. The greens were a bit slow for it being July, but they still rolled pretty flat. It is pretty easy to play an entire round without losing a ball, and still shoot a high number. Most holes have trees that line most fairways, and if you're in behind one, expect just a simple punch out and take your medicine. There were plenty of deer roaming freely on the course, but they were not a nuisance in any way. The staff were very friendly, and the electric carts were pretty new, and ran really well. All in all, it was a really enjoyable evening of golf, and we will definitely be back again!
Same Old Algonkian, not a bad thing
Weather was a bit on the warm side, but all in all not a bad day. Typical Algonkian course conditions, tee boxes, fairways, and fairways were both plush and very good. Keep it in the fairway because the rough is very full and thick. Greens were plush also, and held shots well, but as is always the case here is they are a bit on the slow side, very true, just not fast. Not sure I would pay the $65ish they want as their posted rate, but if you can get it for $55 or less give it a chance.
A fair price for what you get
Course is rather long from the whites but too short from the blues. Course gets a little buggy b.c I;s near the river. Practice balls need to be updated (newer balls). Course was rather wet in places but overall the course was in good shape.
Algonkian May282016
First and Second grass cut unkept when I played, they're overgrown, not usual the case.
