Great Course
Can't say enough about this course. Absolutely fantastic experience. For the first time in ages, I lost 5 balls. Very demanding
Great Course!
In my opinion, this is an overall Chicagoland top 5! Great design, plus you don't get the ungulation like this very often in this area. Fairways were in nice condition and for a public course, you won't find greens much better than these!
Highlands of Elgin excellent challenge from Gold tees
Very interesting and challenging course. Many risk/reward driving holes. Green conditions could have been better - bumpy.
great track
many courses to choose from, this one rises to the top for value!
Costs a little more earlier but is worth missing the crowding later.
friendly staff.
Great deal for the price
Booked a foursome for a mid day tee time on a saturday at $44 each. Great rate for this course. Our group had never played the course before but we all liked it. The fairways were in great condition. The greens were in good shape, however there were a lot of divot marks that hadn't been repaired. It's a shame that people wouldn't take the time to repair their divots on this quality of a course. Pace of play could have better. We had a twosome in front of us and another behind us. We had to wait on a few holes. Overall, it was a great value for the price.
25% off plus hot deal, can't go wrong.
Really fun course that offers challenges on many of the holes. Don't miss into the tall grass and use the GPS tips
Great Layout
Outstanding layout that requires all of the shots in your bag. Conditioning was a little spotty, but still enjoyed the round.
Course was very challenging
Course was very challenging with many elevated greens that were very fast & tiered.
If you like links golf, this is the place, a genuine gem.
The course is very well maintained with large and fast greens. The fairways are in excellent condition. The black and gold tees both present quite a challenge, even to the single digit handicapper. There a lovely views throughout the golf course and it is not as flat as most Illinois golf courses. There is also a lovely dining room and outside patio. One of the top three courses I play in the Northwest suburbs.
Fast greens and course in decent shape
Overall Highlands is a great place to play when you can get a rate of under $40 or under $35 in this case. No trees really come into play on this course but there's plenty of trouble with water and high heather grass.... it's challenging with some decent elevation changes and large greens which are extremely quick and break a lot more than you think they will. With virtually no trees if there's any wind you're forced to think about club selection...we had a 2 club plus wind when we played. Tees/fairways/traps were maintained, greens were in very good shape except for many ball marks which weren't repaired!! Course was very wet from an overnight rain and when the course is dry the greens at Highlands can be rock hard and don't hold approach shots well.....4 1/4 stars.....
A beautiful, unique course among the many Chicagoland golf options.
This course welcomes one with a beautiful vista from the clubhouse repeated on virtually every hole. Despite the wide open feel, one quickly learns that tee shots require precision, lose or high risk shots penalize and greens are fast! An excellent blend of beauty and challenge.
One of my favor course. Top 5 in Illinois.
Pretty challenging and some features. Nice and beautiful. Make my head and mind wide clear.
Fun course to play.
Enjoyable "links" style course. With that being said, wouldn't want to play in real windy conditions. Nice elevation changes and mounding. Don't really see other holes as you work your way around. I've played this a few times and the condition is always vey good and a nice value for mid $50's fee. Play Bowes Creek (Elgin, also)--terrific.
*the course is a wonderful layout
the course has a challenging layout with some forced carries on a few holes. A couple of the greens had ball marks where players failed to fix them. Overall, the course is a good value.
Highlands of Elgin is very well mainted.
I enjoyed the round at the Highlands. It was a Monday and we played after rain. We played under 4 hours. Every hole is challenging. It is a good track to play with friends.
Great course, great fun
If you live in the Chicago area, and like links style golf, then this course is for you, and worth the drive.
great layout,penalyzing fescue
this is a great layout. A links style course with enough room to do it justice. Greens are good speed but can be rock hard. My guess is they did not aerate. Lots of risk/reward holes. Nice balance of shorter holes to demanding. Rough is over penalizing.Very long fescue close to fairways on several holes on which you will have little or no chance to locate or play your ball.
The Highlands of Elgin is a great find for a pleasant round
The course is a real pleasure to play that offers many challenges to all skill levels. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We will be back for more golf at The Highlands of Elgin.
Excellent manicured course
Considering all the rain it had, the course was in great shape. The rough was high, but not too thick in many areas. The greens were receptive, super soft due to the rain, but they were at a very nice speed. The only problem I had that day was the lack of rangers that I saw. We were behind a foursome that wasn't that good (we've all been there at that level) so that didn't bother me in the beginning. After the 4 or 5th hole I started getting "annoyed" that I was waiting 7-10 mins to hit my next shot. IF there were rangers present I know something could've been done. Whether it be letting us play through, or get that group to pick up their balls and just skip a hole. SOMETHING. I would definitely go back and play here, but I would most assuredly get a ranger out there if something like this happened again.
Nobody to greet us at the bag drop and customer service is marginal
I was surprised for the amount of money they require for green fee that there was no one at the bag drop to greet and show us the way especially at this big acreage of a golf course... The greens are like war zone., divots everywhere and no one seems to care of fixing their divots... one cart girl, and one ranger we saw throughout the round... With the mileage I have to spent in giving this golf course a try, I will never go back again! It's marginal but there are better golf experience around our own county in a short driving distance...
