The course is a real challenge from the black tees. We teed off at 3:45 and we played 18 in over 5 hours.
This is a course that you should play but the rack rate price is too high for the average golfer that plays frequently.
Great transformation of idle land.
Coarse needs attention on the greens , layout and routing very unique. needs a few more years to mature,,,green behind the ear.
Find the Hot Deals and Play!
Well worth the Hot deal price, we paid $37 each on a late Friday morning. Course has a very nice layout and the elevation changes are more than welcome compared to other local courses. Greens were very slow on the day we played not sure what the issue was since most people have said the greens have been in great shape. Only complaint we had was with the course Marshall who asked us to keep pace of play even though our 4 some finished in under 4 hours and never really saw anyone on the course.
Will never go back
Although a beautiful course I will never play here again. We were continuously rushed by the ranger and clubhouse personnel despite playing our round in 4.5 hours. They threatened to make us skip a hole if we didn't pick it up even though there was never a group behind us waiting on us to tee off. We kept pace with the course playing 18 in 4.5 hours, a pretty average time for a round. At one point the range drove up to our tee box told us we need to pick it up, he watched us tee off which we all hit horrible drives from being rushed. He then talked to us again before we drove off saying "you guys have to take your time, be patient, and relax" kind of contradicting don't you think? I will not be returning to this course if I am going to pay 50+ dollars for a round of golf I want to enjoy it and not be rushed by course personnel.
Great links course and getting better with age.
Very enjoyable links course. Great course for players of all abilities. Great views, great diversity from hole to hole. I rate it above Prairie Landing (also a great links course) and at a fraction of the cost to play.
Love The Highlands of Elgin
The course was in great shape - greens could've been a little faster but otherwise great. The Highlands is in my top 5 courses in the area and it always it is pleasure to play. The "quarry holes" are fantastic and overall the course is challenging enough and fun. Pace of play was great...the shop staff is usually a little stiff but the starters are great and the halfway house and cart girls are wonderful.
Great course
Played this course yesterday. It's in great shape for early in the year. Didn't pay full price so don't know if course would be worth it or not but its not like any course around at all. The greens are true and in great condition. Would play it again for sure. I might even say its better than prairie landing.
This course one of the best Link courses in the area.
One of the best in the area. V. well maintained. Staff v. friendly.
What a great time!
Really a great surprise when I reached the course. Very nice outlook on the course. Challenging but very fun to play. Very consistent greens and well manicured fairways. Can wait to go back again. Sinking a 60+ foot birdie put on 18 helped too :)
Challenging golf course. Rained the entire round
Got a great price due to the forecast I believe. Layout is great.
Very interesting course.
Very interesting layout, challenging yet rewarding, super windy that day and a little early in the season, but I will be back this season.
Nice links style course
Course drained very well after the heavy rain and flooding. Very well maintained and pristine. Very fast greens and beautiful views.
Great place to play
You need to play here. Very nice links course and it provides plenty of challenge. Played mid week and it was like our foursome were the only ones out there.
Early spring round
We played early in the spring, end of april. Grass still hadn't been consistently growing but the course was still in great shape. It was very windy which helped make the course harder, which on a calm day would still be a tough course. All of our golfers enjoyed the round and the 40 bucks we paid was well worth it
5 star course for cheap
Course was in great condition for being early in the season. As good of a value as there is for golf in the burbs
A great links course with pristine conditions.
There may be only one other course that I've played this year other than The Highlands of Elgin that has lived up to its hype. Keep in mind the The Highlands is a links style course. For the unfamiliar this means no trees, undulating fairways and greens, the need to roll approach shots to some of the greens, lots of wind and very high grass.
The Highlands offers a variety of tee boxes to accommodate all skill levels. I think this is vitally important since this course is so challenging.
The fairways and the greens were in excellent condition. When I say the greens were in excellent condition I mean they were quite fast, they were undulating, and they ran true. There were also very few divots on the greens. So the people that play this course know how to treat greens or the maintenance staff keep on top of things.
Very tall grass replaces trees on a links course. So it's very important to stay out of this grass on your tee shots. That's true for The Highlands. If you land in the grass, good luck finding your ball much less hitting out of it.
The rough on this course is not long but it is lush. So the challenge is not finding your ball in the rough, the challenge is hitting out of the rough.
This course also has plenty of water. So you need to be aware of this since the water is not there solely for its scenic value.
And stay out of the sand traps since many of them them are very deep.
If you've never played a links style course, try The Highlands. You might get hooked.
outstanding course
out standing maintenance. good green speed. good layout.
but prizy.
Pleasantly surprised
Had heard a few good things about Elgin Highlands, so we decided to give it a try. Colder day, so not too many people out there. Conditions were very good and the greens were solid. Some nice changes in elevation and thought was required as to positioning. Definitely not an "easy" track, but not impossible to play, either. We will be back.
PACE OF PLAY COULD BE BETTER
GOLF COURSE OVER ALL NICE,PLAYED LATE IN DAY AND GREENS WERE FAIRLY BUMPY,PACE OF PLAY WAS SLOW.OVERALL WOULD RECOMMED TO PLAY,JOHN IN PRO SHOP WAS REALLY NICE GUY.
Lame.
